Chapter 16

Four years later In a luxurious sitting room filled with elegance and wealth, everything spoke of power and status. A grand crystal chandelier hung from the ceiling, casting a soft golden glow across the entire space. The marble floors gleamed under the light, reflecting every movement like a mirror. Plush velvet sofas were carefully arranged around a polished glass table, and the air carried a faint scent of expensive perfumes and fresh flowers. Tall curtains framed the large windows, while exquisite artworks decorated the walls, giving the room a cold but breathtaking beauty. In the middle of all this luxury sat a young girl, not more than four, giving instructions angrily. “I’m not eating these brownies. Take it away, I need pancakes this time!” she said, smashing a plate of brownies on the ground. The maids quickly rushed forward, some bending to pack the shattered plates while another hurried off to call her mother. “Oh Jasmine, what else do you want again? You have rejected the 12th food the maids offered you today… what else do you want?” her mother said, sighing tiredly as she walked slowly into the room. “I’m not going to eat any food until Daddy comes back… Mummy, where is Daddy? He does not care about me. He’s always traveling and traveling. He did not even want to see me at all…” Jasmine said, crying loudly. “Oh, it’s okay, baby… Daddy is just working to provide a good life for us. You know Mommy likes luxury things, and you love them too, so that’s why Daddy is working to give us those luxury things,” her mother replied, trying to pet her gently. “No! He does not like us. He does not love us!” Jasmine shouted, smashing more plates on the table and scattering the entire dining hall. “Stop, Jasmine! Stop it, you will hurt yourself!” her mother tried to stop her, but she didn’t listen. She continued destroying everything around her. The maids stood at a distance, watching in fear. None of them dared to step forward. She could hurt them too. She was a spoilt brat. “Will you stop this nonsense now?!” The deep voice echoed through the room, instantly freezing everyone in place. Jasmine stopped immediately. She turned—and there he was. Her father. Kaden stood at the entrance with her grandmother, Emily. His expression was cold, his presence commanding. Selene’s face lit up immediately when she saw him. She moved forward, wanting to hug him, but Jasmine ran faster. “Daddy!” she screamed happily, rushing toward him. But he didn’t hug her. Seeing his stern face, her excitement faded, and she pouted sadly. “What’s the meaning of the nonsense you just did, Jasmine?” Kaden asked, his voice firm as his eyes moved across the scattered room. “You’re the reason, Daddy. I didn’t see you for three days now, and you didn’t bother to check on me. You do not love me,” she said, crying. Kaden sighed, then bent down to her height and held her hands. “Daddy loves you… I was away on a business trip, and I didn’t get access to my phone, that’s why. I love you, and nothing is changing that. But if you act this way next time, I won’t take it easy with you. Do you understand?” She didn’t answer. Instead, she pulled away and walked back to her grandmother. Emily lifted her up gently. Kaden straightened and turned to Selene, his expression turning cold again. “And you stood there watching her scatter everything in this place, and you did nothing to stop her?” “Kaden, you have started nagging at me again. Anytime Jasmine does something bad, you’re always putting the fault on me,” Selene said, clearly irritated. “Yes, because you spoil her too much, and it’s bad for her. Try scolding her sometimes—she’s too spoilt,” Kaden replied angrily. “Oh, it’s now my fault that she’s spoilt?” Selene snapped, raising her voice. “Will you two stop this?” Emily’s voice cut through sharply. “You have just started again, and you didn’t even acknowledge your daughter properly. Do you want her to grow up learning this behavior from you?” she said, staring at both of them sternly. “Mum, you know it’s Kaden’s fault. He’s always distant and cold, and I don’t even understand him anymore,” Selene said, tears forming in her eyes. “Daddy… Mummy… please stop arguing because of me,” Jasmine said softly as she climbed down from Emily’s arms and walked toward her father. Kaden’s expression softened slightly. He picked her up. “Hey, sweetheart, we’re not arguing… just talking,” he said gently. Then he turned slightly. “Mum, I’ll see you later,” he added before walking away with Jasmine without sparing Selene a glance. Jasmine smiled happily as her father carried her upstairs, resting her head on his shoulder. Selene stood there for a moment before collapsing into a chair, exhausted. “Mum, I have done everything in my power to make Kaden love me, but he keeps acting cold and distant all the time. For the past four years we’ve been married, I can count the number of times Kaden has touched me. He won’t even look at me… I’m tired,” she said, her voice breaking. Emily placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. “Don’t worry, dear. He will come around. Give him more time,” she said not knowing what to say to her. “Mum, it’s more than four years now, and he’s still not changed. He’s still in love with Cassie… I caught him one night searching for her name on the internet. He thought I was asleep already. He’s still trying to get in touch with her.” Emily sighed before pulling her into a hug. “Relax, sweetheart. You’re his wife now; he’s going nowhere. You even have his child, so don’t worry too much. He will come around with time.” Selene closed her eyes briefly. “I hope so, Mum… I really hope so,” she said quietly. --- Another city A woman stood beside a car, with a man beside her watching as the guards load their luggage into the car trunk. The lady a tall and stunning woman with a body shaped like a goddess soft curves, a full chest, and flawless proportions. Her fair skin glowed gently, while her brown-golden hair framed her beauty like sunlight. Every feature of her face was perfectly defined, effortlessly captivating. She looked so beautiful. “Cassie, are you ready for this trip?” the man standing beside her asked, watching her closely. “Of course, Matteo. Imani is already there she’s expecting me. I miss her already,” Cassie replied without looking at him as she removed her shades placing it at the middle of her head. Matteo hesitated before speaking again. “I know you understand what I’m saying Cassie. you’re going back to that city. Your ex is there. Are you sure you want to do this?” Cassie paused, then slowly looked up at him. “So what do you expect me to do? Sit here and let my parents die in vain? Without bringing their killers to justice?” she said, her voice calm but filled with anger. “Matteo, I know you’re worried about my daughter and my safety. But as long as I have you and Madam Alice by my side, and our plan doesn’t fail… I will succeed. There was a dangerous determination in her eyes. Matteo gave a small smile and reached for her hand, but she gently pulled her hand away and gave him a small smile. Imani is waiting for us over there let’s go she said walking to the car. He sighed softly and followed. “Let’s go to the airport,” Cassie instructed the driver. The car engine started, and car drove off. She’s going there for revenge and she will stop at nothing to get it… she smiled darkly.
