Chapter 3I don’t remember the climb back or the journey home, but somehow, Lion and I arrive at my office. The car smooths to a quiet stop. Tall, orderly lines of pine trees wait like sentries. It’s so different from the diversity and complexity of the forest beyond the wall. My chest aches and hurts, in line with a text description of grief. I want it to stop, and at the same time, I don’t want to let go of the loss or of what just happened. Questions batter at my subconscious. How did the s*x end? What happened to the guy? Will I ever see him again? I can’t go through life and never see him again or do the s*x one more time. If it weren’t for the rawness of my skin, I’d have assumed the encounter was a dream, nothing more. But my body smarts, so I know my memories are real. We had s*x.
