Chapter 3 Racing Circuit

667 Words
At Darling Racing Circuit. The stands were almost filled with spectators today, as it was rumored that someone boasted about breaking the world record set by international top racer Anya three years ago. It had been three years since Anya, the renowned Racing Queen, retired and disappeared from the scene without participating in any races. Yet, her world record still remained unbeaten. "Victoria, it seems like we made the right choice coming here today. If you didn't show up, I'm afraid you wouldn't have a place in this circle anymore," Paul said with a smile. "Don't overthink it. Even if it's a world record from three years ago, it's not that easy to surpass." Victoria hooked her lips, clearly not taking it seriously. "Who are you? Do you know anything about racing?" A piercing female voice suddenly came from behind. The two of them turned around and saw two women standing behind them. Surprisingly, the two women were no strangers. Victoria stared at their familiar faces, her smile not quite reaching her eyes. "What a coincidence." When the woman who questioned Victoria's knowledge of racing saw the latter, she widened her eyes. Her expression turned even more disdainful as she said, "I thought you were someone else. Aren't you Victoria, who just divorced my cousin?" Victoria never expected the news of her divorce from Peyton to spread so quickly that even Peyton's distant cousin knew about it. Nonchalantly, she hummed an affirmative. Her attitude egged on Peyton's cousin, Baylee Dunn. The latter no longer bothered to hold back the jealousy and bitterness she had been hiding. "I initially thought you would grow old with my cousin, but it's only been three years! Did you come here to watch the race because you're feeling down after the divorce? Sadly, not everyone understands car racing." Baylee pointed toward the racing circuit with a provocative laugh. "I remember there's an amusement park nearby. Victoria, why don't you go there and watch a bumper car race instead? Haha!" I can't believe she came here to watch the race when she doesn't even know how to drive. How hilarious! As Victoria remained silent, Baylee linked arms with Diana Foley, the woman beside her. "If you know nothing about racing, you shouldn't come and embarrass yourself. Look at Diana. Today, she's going to break the world record set by Anya!" Baylee boasted. Victoria took another glance at Diana. She had a vague impression of this darling daughter of the Foley family - the latter seemed to be one of Peyton's fan girls. Before Victoria could say anything yet, Paul's face turned sour. He scoffed, "Her? Really?" Initially, Diana stood there demurely and basked in Baylee's compliments, but when she heard the handsome guy next to Victoria mocking her, she could no longer hold back her anger. "Victoria, how could you be on a date with someone else right after your divorce? You're lucky that Peyton doesn't care about your likes. Otherwise, I'd really be worried for him," Diana mocked with a sneer. Paul's face immediately darkened, a storm brewing in his eyes, but Victoria quickly pulled him back. "Let's go. It's almost time. Why bother with them?" With Victoria and Paul walking away, Baylee and Diana felt ignored. All they could do was curse angrily, "It's ridiculous how even useless people can come to the race!" As Diana was scolding, her gaze inadvertently shifted, and she suddenly paused. Peyton! Diana's eyes lit up in an instant. She ran over excitedly, exclaiming, "Peyton, I'm here! Did you get the text I sent you? I can't believe you really came to watch my game!" Similarly, Baylee's eyes shone enthusiastically. "Peyton, I didn't expect you to actually come." Peyton looked at the two women who had appeared out of nowhere, having no idea what text Diana was talking about. He furrowed his brows and tried his best to hold back his impatience. Then, he moved his gaze past them and searched the audience in the venue.
