Chapter 1
The room went dead silent for ten whole seconds. The cracks across the table spread like a lightning strike, tearing from the center of the table all the way to my feet.
The color drained from Zane Cole's face. Behind him, Naomi Bennett looked like she was too stunned to stay upright. Her sharp manicured nails dug into Zane's arm, leaving several bloody marks behind.
I flexed my numb fingers and shook off the tingling sensation. My knuckles were thick, my joints clearly defined, and the veins on the back of my hand stood out. After three months of recovery, I was back up to 106 pounds. My body had finally recovered from years of damage, and my fists had returned.
"H-Hannah!" Zane finally managed to speak. "Have you lost your mind? Look at yourself. What are you even doing?"
He pulled Naomi behind him without hesitation.
In my previous life, I had fallen for that so-called knight in shining armor act of his. But now I finally understood. He wasn't protecting some delicate flower. He was protecting his own inflated ego.
Naomi suddenly spoke in a soft voice. "Zane, I think this table was an antique Mr. Monroe bought at an auction last year."
Her voice was sweet and gentle, with a trace of a sob, the kind that always sounded like she was begging to be comforted.
Back then, Zane couldn't stop praising her. He said everything about her was perfect. That voice of hers used to drive me crazy. But now, hearing it again, all I could feel was how absurd it was.
The reminder made Zane's expression change from pale to furious. "Hannah, you did this on purpose! This table cost $800,000!"
"Oh." I brushed the wood chips off my palm without a care. "Charge it to me. No, charge it to our marital assets."
I looked at him and smiled. "We're splitting everything during the divorce anyway. This table is part of it too, isn't it? So what's the problem with me breaking something that belongs to me?"
Zane stood there frozen. He probably never imagined that the woman who had once followed his every command would be the one to bring up the word "divorce" first.
In his version of the story, today was supposed to be the day he brought his first love back and told me, the "female Hulk," to get lost.
"You..." He pointed at me, his finger shaking with anger. "You actually think I wanted this marriage? I came here today to end it! Naomi is back, and we..."
"I know." I cut him off, pulling a document from behind the sofa cushion and tossing it onto the shattered tabletop with a sharp slap.
"I drafted the divorce papers myself. You're walking away with nothing."
Zane's expression shattered like he had just heard the worst news of his life. "What did you say?"
"This villa has always been mine. The shares in your company that you got after we married were bought with my father's money, and now I'm taking them back." I spoke slowly, each word hitting like a hammer. "You aren't getting a single cent. Actually, you still owe me three years of rent. Zane, don't forget. I was the one who dumped you."
"You wish!" Zane completely snapped. "Hannah, have you lost your mind? What are you without me? Who would ever want a woman built like you? You're nothing but a walking tank!"
He lunged at me without warning, reaching out to grab me. Just like in my past life, he wanted to send me crashing to the floor.
At the time, I had starved myself just because Zane said he preferred slim and delicate women. I was so malnourished that I could barely see straight. But to him, throwing me down the stairs took almost no effort. He handled me like I was a rag doll. One c***k to the back of my head, and my first life was over.
I came back to my senses and planted my feet firmly. The second his hand reached for my shoulder, I moved faster, flipping him over with a powerful shoulder throw.
Zane went flying and slammed into the crystal coffee table. The glass gave out under the impact and exploded into pieces.
Naomi screamed, but what came out of her mouth was, "Hannah, be careful!"
I narrowed my eyes, then crouched beside the shaking Zane and whispered, "Don't forget this. Everything that happened today was something you brought on yourself."
I released him, and he crumpled into the shattered glass, coughing and struggling like a wounded animal fighting for its last breath.
I glanced at Naomi. She was still frozen in place, looking like she had just witnessed something unbelievable. Her eyes were glassy with tears, but there was something else hidden beneath that panic.
I frowned slightly.
Like she had finally come back to reality, Naomi hurried over and helped Zane up. "Zane, are you okay?"
"Mark!" I called out. "From now on, if Mr. Cole shows up, don't bother letting me know. Just send the dogs out. He's no longer a guest here."
My butler, Mark, and the security team hauled Zane away while he kept shouting, "Hannah, you'll regret this! You're nothing without me! No one will ever want you. You'll spend your whole life begging someone to take you..."
They dragged him outside and threw him out. The moment the front doors closed, the villa finally fell silent.
Yeah, I laughed at myself. This place belonged to me too. I had no idea where Zane got the nerve to walk around like he was the owner and treat me like I was some employee in my own home.
I walked over to the full length mirror by the entrance and stared at my reflection. Sun-kissed skin, broad shoulders, a slim waist, thighs that were finally regaining their strength, and calves shaped with powerful muscle.
That was who I really was.
Not the pathetic girl who had starved herself down to 80 pounds just to fit some man's idea of beauty.
The phone on the coffee table started buzzing. I glanced at the screen. It was my father. I let it ring.
I didn't want to talk to anyone right now. I only wanted food. Something loaded with calories, something Zane would hate.
