CHAPTER 5

1108 Words
It's quite impossible to forget the event that reshaped your entire life. Mine shattered when I discovered the two people I loved the most entangled in each other's arms. Amelia and I were supposed to see yesterday, but she never picked up my calls. I wondered if she was still angry and the more time that passed, the more worried I got. Amelia has become more on edge recently, always acting weird around me but I shoved it off to being uneasy after the breakup with Chad. I was bored and my mind was whirring with thoughts, most of them not pleasant and I needed someone to talk to. Usually, I made sure to call Amelia beforehand but she had already informed me that she would be alone, trying to recover from the breakup. So armed with ice cream, M&M's, and her favorite wine, I made my way to her house. The door was locked when I got there but luckily, I had a spare key so I easily slipped in, depositing my gifts on the counter. “Amelia?” I called out, poking my head into the kitchen. Nothing. Taking the stairs two at a time to check her bedroom, I was stopped halfway by strange sounds. My nose wrinkled when I identified what was going on there, and I turned to walk back out the door. So, she had gotten someone else. That's why she makes me call! I was happy for Amelia, ready to leave them when I heard it. A moan. But not just any moan, the voice behind it sounded familiar. I stopped in my tracks, my brain unable to process what I was hearing. I shook my head slightly. It can't be. I moved closer to the bed, and the sound came again much louder this time. I got my confirmation. Wanting to understand better, I twisted the door knob- which surprisingly was unlocked- pushing the door in. They were so lost in their passion that they didn't even hear me come in. The sheets covered their lower half but the long, blond hair was very much familiar as well as the lithe, toned body underneath it. “Yeah, that's it. Harder baby, f**k!” Lukas grunted, placing his hands firmly on her hip. Those same hands that touched me. Bile gathered at the back of my throat but I had to force it down. How could he? It felt like someone tore out my heart and stomped on it before feeding it back to my chest. Each moan, groan, and whispered declaration was driving a wedge into my heart, tearing it apart until the pain became too much and I couldn't take it anymore. “Lukasssss!” I screamed, my bag falling to the floor. They jerked apart guiltily at the sound of my voice, scrambling to cover their exposed parts but I wasn't seeing them anymore. All I could see was the pain and hurt that they inflicted on me. Amelia looked down, her hair covering her face while Lukas was sweaty, with his hair falling over his handsome face. Hair that I held on to, while he railed harder into me. “f**k,” I half shouted, half sobbed. “How could you do this to me? Both of you!” Amelia glanced at Lukas who stood up from the bed, the sheets draping low on his waist. “Quinn…” he tried to grab my elbow but I moved away. “Don't touch me!” I screamed like a banshee, the thought of his hands on my skin enough to make me feral. “You were both right, I was so stupid.” I fell to my knees. “I trusted you…” One tear, then two fell from my eyes, and the next thing I knew they were streaming down my face, wetting the tiles. Deep, heart-wrenching sobs spilled from my lips as my vision blurred but the pain was slowly morphing into anger. While I heard Lukas try to console/ talk to me in vain, it occurred to me that there was someone else who didn't even appear moved by what happened. Raising my eyes, I fixed them on her. Amelia. “You! How could you?” I tried to fathom why, what I must have done to make her hate me so much to do this. “I told you everything…I confided in you, in my highs and lows while you would commiserate but all this time, you were f*****g him!” I stood up to accuse her, fire blazing in my eyes. Amelia must not like my tone because she got defensive. “Oh, please, always so bloody dramatic!” She scoffed, and it was like I was thrust into another world. “Do you f*****g think the whole world revolves around you? I f****d him, yeah and so? Deal with it!” I looked at her, wondering how I never saw this part of her. “You're a b***h, a f*****g cold-blooded monster!” She sneered in my face, her lower lip curling in disgust. “Did you think he loved you? Were you that delusional?” I stumbled back from the force of her accusation. “What are you talking about?” “Lukas, why don't you tell her the truth and put her out of her misery?” She snickered, pushing me away as she pads into the bathroom. I swung to Lukas who once again, looked uncomfortable. “What the hell is she talking about?” When he just kept looking at anywhere but me, I pushed at his chest. “Tell me!” “It was a bet.” Lukas pushed out, the words torn from his chest. “A couple of people bet against you, that I couldn't get you and I agreed to do it.” A whimper escaped my lips, my heart turning cold. “And Amelia? Was she a bet too?” His silence gave me the answer, but I just had to know. “How long?” I asked. “How long, Lukas?!” He looked tortured. “A couple of months.” Fuck. He was still speaking but I couldn't anymore. I turned around and fled, ignoring Lukas's pleas. I ran for so long that my legs bled. I ran until I got numb and the tears stopped flowing. I was in acute pain, physically and mentally and it was under the full moon that night that I made my decision. I packed my belongings and hightailed it out of the pack without looking back. But I regret that action to this day.
