Chapter 10
When Vitor and Maggie walked through the door, their arms wrapped around each other and their daughter, they were both overcome with the feeling of home. It seemed so odd to Maggie that the events of the day were real. She couldn’t believe that something so terrifying had really happened and she couldn’t believe that she and Vitor had been brought even closer together by it. They were so lost in each other that it felt as though they were the only people in the world.
It wasn’t until they saw Jackie, curled up asleep on the couch that they were pulled from their own little world. Even in sleep, she seemed fitful. Maggie knelt by her and gently shook her awake. Her eyes lit up when she saw her, shaking her head as though she wasn’t quite sure she was really seeing them.
