Chapter 11
Maggie went straight to the nursery and Jackie followed her. Both women were eager to be close to the sleeping baby and to see her safely in her crib after the threats that they had all faced during the previous day. For a while, they just sat in silence, listening to her sweet breathing as she slept on.
“What are we doing? The baby isn’t fussing at all,” Jackie asked in her quietest voice.
“I know that, but I wanted to give them a moment alone. They don’t see each other often,” she said, her thoughts drifting as she spoke, to everything that had happened since they came to Tennessee, and everything that was yet to come.
