AN HOUR LATER, MAGGIE and Jackie stood in front of the mirror, Maggie trying on a new black dress she had bought before she realized she was pregnant and hadn’t had an opportunity to wear it since. Though she looked stunning, she also looked anxious.
“I don’t think I can do this. How can I leave the baby after what happened today?” she said as she stepped out of a pair of black heels that were far too uncomfortable.
“Go on, it’ll be fine. Go out on the town with your man,” Jackie said, handing her a pair of silver flats.
