Meanwhile, Vitor made his way back to the caves. As he approached the one that he called home, he was greeted by Ida with a triumphant smile on her face and a hand on her hip.
“Well, you must have had an interesting morning,” she said with a grin.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he said in an attempt to evade the question.
“I saw you go to see that girl and you have been gone for hours. You care for her, don’t you?”
“No, I most certainly do not. I’ve only known her a day.” The lie felt strange in his mouth. He couldn’t remember lying to Ida before, but he wasn’t sure what he felt, let alone how to share it.
“And yet you feel compelled to be with her, to get to know her more, don’t you?” she pressed.
“I will admit that I find her intriguing,” he said finally.
