MEANWHILE, MAGGIE HAD finished hiking the trail that led to the dragon caves. The closer she had gotten, the more amazed she was that Vitor had been able to carry her back to the jeep with such ease. He had acted as if it was no strain at all, and in the haze of pain, she hadn’t questioned that, but she realized now that he carried her well over a mile through rocky terrain with roots and fallen branches that should have made it impossible to do what he had done on that day. Ida had been right. It was a beautiful day. She reached the caves around 11:00. The day was bright and the sky was clear; the perfect day for taking more photographs of the caves and their surrounding area.
