Chapter 3: Practicing Medicine
On the train to Dongling City.
Chen Xuan sat in his seat, his mischievous eyes occasionally sneaking glances at the women boarding the train. However, after a while, he lost interest—these women, with their heavy makeup, weren’t nearly as attractive as his two fierce and beautiful master’s wives.
The train started and headed towards Dongling City.
He didn’t know how long he had been asleep, but when Chen Xuan slowly woke up, he opened his eyes and saw a stunningly beautiful woman sitting across from him. She had a perfectly shaped oval face, a tall and graceful figure, delicate brows, and expressive eyes that seemed to speak.
A woman like this was unforgettable at first sight.
Chen Xuan’s eyes lit up at the discovery. Damn, when did such a gorgeous woman sit across from him? Though she wasn’t as breathtaking as his two master’s wives, she was still a rare beauty.
“What are you looking at with those pervy eyes? Watch out, or I’ll dig them out.” Jiang Wushuang shot him a look of disgust.
Hearing this, Chen Xuan felt a little annoyed. Were city girls really this arrogant? He couldn’t even take a glance without being threatened?
“Shuang’er, mind your manners.” The elderly man sitting next to Jiang Wushuang smiled at Chen Xuan and said, “Young man, don’t take it to heart. You must be a student, heading to Dongling University?”
Chen Xuan nodded.
The old man continued with a smile, “Dongling University may not be a top-tier institution, but it’s still a decent place. There’s still more than half a month before the semester starts—why are you heading there so early?”
Although Chen Xuan’s simple attire clearly marked him as someone from the countryside, the old man himself had come from humble beginnings and worked his way up to his current status. He had a soft spot for young people who fought their way out of rural life.
“I have a fiancée in Dongling City,” Chen Xuan replied. “I’m going early to meet her.”
“You? A fiancée?” Jiang Wushuang scoffed, eyeing the bundle he carried. “Even if you have one, I bet she’ll dump you sooner or later.”
A countryside bumpkin carrying a cloth bundle, and he had a fiancée in the city? Jiang Wushuang found it hard to believe.
“Shuang’er!” The old man scolded her, then turned to Chen Xuan with a smile. “Young man, don’t mind her. This girl has a sharp tongue but a good heart.”
Of course, Chen Xuan didn’t take Jiang Wushuang’s words to heart. Before he left, his master’s wife had warned him that city girls had high standards and that he should practice patience.
Of course, to Chen Xuan, patience was ideal, but if necessary, fists did the talking.
Just then, the old man suddenly let out a muffled groan, clutching his chest in pain.
“Grandpa! What’s wrong? Don’t scare me!” Jiang Wushuang panicked, patting the old man’s back.
“Don’t touch him!” Chen Xuan grabbed her hand.
“What are you doing, you country bumpkin? Let go!” Jiang Wushuang shouted in anger, her delicate hand trapped in his rough palm.
“He’s suffering from a recurring illness. If you keep doing that, he could go into shock at best or die on the spot at worst. Step aside, I’m a doctor.” Chen Xuan said seriously.
“A doctor?” Jiang Wushuang sneered. “You’re nothing but a fraud.”
Damn, she could insult him, but she couldn’t insult his skills! His medical skills were passed down from his master’s wife—insulting them was equivalent to insulting his teacher!
But seeing that the old man’s condition was serious, Chen Xuan ignored her and opened his bundle, pulling out a set of silver needles.
Jiang Wushuang, still panicked, continued calling someone on her phone, speaking urgently and in an irritated tone.
Chen Xuan didn’t care who she was calling. He had a good impression of the old man, and since he could help, he would.
Without hesitation, he took out a silver needle and inserted it into the old man’s head.
“Bastard! What are you doing? Do you even know who my grandfather is? Stop immediately!” Jiang Wushuang’s face changed drastically as she reached out to pull out the needle.
“Listen, woman. If you don’t want him to die, sit down and shut your mouth.” Chen Xuan shot her a glare. She had less common sense than Widow Wang from his village!
Jiang Wushuang wanted to argue, but at that moment, the old man’s complexion was visibly improving—his pale face gradually regaining a healthy glow.
“Grandpa, how are you feeling?” Jiang Wushuang asked anxiously. “I’ve already called the best doctor in Jiangdong, they’re rushing to Dongling City now!”
“No need. The doctor I need is right in front of me.” The old man looked at Chen Xuan and said, “I misjudged you, young man. You’re truly a miracle doctor.”
The old man knew his condition well—even the best doctor in Jiangdong couldn’t have stabilized him so quickly. Yet, Chen Xuan had done it effortlessly, proving his medical skills were extraordinary.
“I just studied traditional medicine for a few years.” Chen Xuan shrugged. He was actually being modest—his master’s wife, Lin Suyi, had once said that if he took medicine seriously, even Hua Tuo himself would have to call him "master."
After years of Lin Suyi’s training, Chen Xuan’s medical skills had surpassed even hers!
Of course, the old man didn’t believe his modesty. He asked excitedly, “Then, young man, do you think my illness can still be cured?”
