Childhood
The 6-year-old Yena was playing alone in the garden throwing rocks at the little Koi pond.
‘'Yena, stop throwing pebbles into the pond you might hurt the fishes."
The nanny said with a lovely smile. Yena was a smart girl she doesn't have to be told twice.
"I'm sorry nanny"
she replied with a cheeky smile and proceeded to run around the garden enjoying her time alone. It's not that Yena hates the other kids at the orphanage, it's just she finds it more relaxing and fun to play alone especially when you have a very loud friend named Bobby. She has another friend called Jessy. She Wanted to play with her friend Jessy but other kid was busy playing with the others so she decided to play alone.
Yena got tired of running around so he decided to sit on the ground and started to dig into the soil using the stick that she picked up from somewhere near the pond and she started to "plant" the pebbles. Yena was deeply engrossed on what she was doing until she felt a presence behind her which made her take a look behind her. And there, she saw a very unfamiliar boy. Yena immediately stood up with a smile on her chubby face.
"Hello"
Yena greeted the boy enthusiastically and waves her tiny hand but the other did not speak and just stared at her.
"Are you new here? I've never seen you before"
The little boy just nodded as a response to her.
"What is your name? My name is Yena and I am six years old!"
Yena offered her hand eagerly and the boy grabbed it with his own little hand and shakes it.
"My name is Zion"
The boy said.
"Nice to meet you Zion! How old are you?"
The smaller boy just raised his three fingers and showed it to Yena.
"Oh! I'm older than you.”
Yena beamed a smile at the gloomy looking boy.
"What are you doing?"
Zion asked in his small voice.
"Oh! I'm planting pebbles! Here look"
Yena pulled Zion so that he could take a look.
"Someday, these little pebbles will grow so big! Like that one."
Yena pointed to the big rock beside the koi pond the boy seemed to believe her as he sat beside Yena and started digging more holes in the garden.
Yena felt excited for everyone to meet her new friend in their home. So, she ran around the orphanage holding Zion’s little hand. Yena was an orphaned when she was born she was left at the doorstep of the orphanage one summer afternoon.
"Nanny!" Yena called for his favorite nanny and she immediately stopped what she was doing to attend to her favorite child. The said Nanny was the same nanny that saw Yena at the doorstep of the orphanage.
"What is it Yena?"
"Nanny! We have a new friend!"
The little girl exclaimed excitedly as she was jumping.
The nanny looked confused because she never heard from the other nannies that there will be a new kid coming in.
"Look! Nanny this is Zion! He is three years old and he just arrived earlier! Introduce yourself Zion."
Yena encouraged the boy to speak but the little boy beside him did not mutter a word.
"Oh nana, He is just shy forgive him "
The Nanny only smiled fondly at Yena’s excitement.
"Hello Zion, nice to meet you. I hope you enjoy your stay here with Yena ok?"
"Ok nana! I will make sure that he will enjoy his stay here. Now I'm going to introduce him to the other kids so he can make more friends!" She immediately ran to the other kids to introduce her new friend. The Nanny was left confused and concerned.
"But Yena! There is no one!"
Bobby her friend whined for the nth time at Yena’s persistence that she has to meet Zion.
"Fine! If you guys don't like my new friend then it's okay! He is new here and needs friends but you kids already hate him!"
Yena sulks because the other kids do not acknowledge her new friend Zion.
"It's okay Zion. Do not cry let's just go somewhere else and play okay?"
Yena pulled Zion into the same spot where they met earlier that day. The other kids especially Bobby just stared at Yena for a while thinking that his friend is acting strange. Introducing no one and insisting that they make friends with the boy she was mentioning. “whatever.” Bobby shrugged and continued playing with the other kids.
The night time came and Yena grew a little bit restless before she approached her favorite Nanny.
“Nana?
"Yes Yena?"
"Where will Zion sleep? There is no extra bed for him."
The Nanny sighed and smiled at Yena. The woman kneeled so she can level her eyes to the girl in front of her.
“Yena, I am going to ask you something is that okay?”
The nanny asked calmly which Yena responded with a nod.
“Where did you meet your new friend Yena?
“Oh, at the garden near the koi pond nana! I was planting pebbles when he arrived.”
Yena exclaims happily. The nanny kneeling in front of her looked more confused. She will definitely ask the other nannies what to do with their little Yena.
"Is that all Nana?" Yena tilt her head to the side waiting for an answer.
“Yes, that’s all Yena go to sleep now” She stood up preparing to leave but a little hand stopped her.
“nana, where should Zion sleep? There is no extra bed.” Yena pouted and the nanny faced her again.
“Is it okay if Zion sleeps beside you for now?”
Yena’s face lights up at the idea and nods immediately.
"Okay. You and Zion should go to bed okay?" The woman said as she tucked Yena to bed.
As the lights was turned off, the children slowly drift off to sleep
"Yena" a voice called beside Yena’s bed. She knew it was Bobby but she ignored the call .
"Hey Yena.” Now the voice came from the bed above her but she ignored the both of them.
"We are sorry we didn't say hi to Zion earlier"
Bobby said and Yena turned her head to face her friend.
"we want to be Friends with him too."
he continued and Jessy the girl above Yena nods. The little girl suddenly jolts up excitedly hearing those words from her friends.
"Really? Then let's play together tomorrow ok? Did you hear that Zion? They like you so don't be sad ok?"
"We should play tag with him tomorrow. Trust me Zion , Playing tag with them is so much fun!" Yena continued to blabber about the games they could play when the morning comes. Minutes went by and Yena drifts off to sleep with a happy thought that his best friend Bobby and Jessy accepted her new friend Zion.
