Chapter 3By the time they got back to the apartment, Cam’s nerves had started to twist. He forced his expression to remain unruffled as he slid out of his coat and scarf. Mattie didn’t seem to notice anything amiss as he hung their jackets in the closet and yawned.
“Sorry,” he said with a sheepish grin. “I need caffeine. Gonna put on some coffee, did you want some?”
“Sure,” Cam breathed out, relieved that they wouldn’t be headed directly to the bedroom. He sat on the sofa while Mattie got the coffee pot going in the kitchen. Nellie leaped up next to Cam and pawed at him until he gave her pets. He scratched lightly behind her ears and tried to steady his breathing.
