Welcome Home

“It is surprising you managed to return home so soon after your death son. In a full grown woman’s body. She is a barbarian race is she not? How did you manage such a feat?” Kamion, Helion’s father, inquired. “Yes, her race is human. One of the inhabitants of the Milky Way. My research into time travel was the key to my return. I ended up far in the past. My device much have been damaged when I tossed it. I was trying to destroy it and it sent me back in time when I died. I was born into that body on the day I was viewing before. Therefore I must conclude that was the case. I will be deleting that research. It is too dangerous to leave around.” Helion informed his parents. “Is there a way to work on just the viewer? You did spent a lot of time on your research.” Bashala queried. “I am sure there is. There is not a way to make sure someone cannot play with the device once we sold them. Someone could steal one and the results could be just as dire. It is better to just leave it alone.” Helion responded. “Seems like an offal waste of time and resources. What would have you forgo the advances you’ve worked so hard to achieve?” Kamion pursued more direct reasons. “My time travels taught me great harm can come from unintentional interactions with the timeline. It is something better left alone or to trained professionals.” Helion replied logically. “So what are your intentions with the host that returned with you? What bargain did you use to gain her assistance?” Bashala questioned. “I intend to marry her mother.” Helion stated directly. “She is hardly suitable for such duties. Maybe a mistress or a concubine would be acceptable. You must think this through logically. We cannot agree to this.” Kamion’s tone was firm as iron. “I wasn’t asking for permission father. I understand I will need to have a viable heir. She is aware of our customs and such too. I can find a concubine to have my children in college I suspect. s****l education is part of the advanced education requirements of the university. I’m sure my standings among my peers is in question after my death. I was ahead of everyone before, but it suspect I’ve dropped a few places. Still I should be able to regain a high place in the rankings and attend a top school.” Helion explained his plan. He didn’t expect them to buy it. It would be an insult for him to take a lesser race as a bride and make a concubine of a member of his own race.  “That is absurd. No self respecting Calinar female would accept such an arrangement.” Bashala returned. “With as much money as this family has, I think I could find one that doesn’t have as much self respect as you seem to believe they all have. Besides the Calinar are the ones likely responsible for my death. I’d rather sleep with someone I can trust fully.” Helion replied to his shocked mother. “Your inheritance is not safe without a viable heir. If your plan fails you will be without one, once your sister is born.” Kamion stated firmly. “There is more time than all that and we both know it. I only need to have one before my access to the money can be granted. Unless you remove my rights too it. I made it back here on my own. I had to travel across space and through thousands of years to do it. It took me twenty two years to get here. The woman you keep looking down on is the best person I’ve known in my entire life. Sure she is different and she may not be as smart as what we are. That doesn’t mean she is worthless. I would rather be poor with her than rich without. If it must be that way, I’ll take my ship and go.” Helion stated defiantly. “Don’t be quite so rash. We will not agree to a wedding until after you’ve finished college. If you can secure an arrangement to produce viable heirs at school, we will consent.” Kamion decreed. “I care little for your chances, yet I will consent to your father’s wishes on this. I don’t like it but, your assessment may be correct. Your allowances will be limited. I will not consent to you having free access to buy women for this.” Bashala added. “That’s a better deal than I expected to get. I except your terms. I will marry her either way. I would like to make upgrades to my own ship before I leave for school. I am not allowed to seek vengeance for the attack that killed me but, I am allowed to defend myself from future attacks. Will I be afforded access to funds for that endeavor?” Helion inquired. “Your ship’s insurance money will be the limit. When we receive the money from the settlement against the manufacture you may be given more.” Kamion stated. “Thank you both. I shall retire if you have nothing else to discuss.” Helion said calmly. He waited for a few seconds, when no more was said by his parents, he stood to leave. “Welcome home son. It may not seem like it, but we are glad you are alive again.” Bashala stated. “It is good to be home. At least I no longer need to worry about messing up the past anymore.” Helion replied before he left. He returned to his study. His holocomputer was there. The ship needed a lot of upgrades. It’s computer was not bad but, it needed all the additional data of a standard computer. His engines needed to be upgraded. The halls needed reinforced and shields added. He had a lot of work to do before he started college. He had to finish his schooling too. There were another six weeks to get his ranking up still. Helion logged on the check his bank details. It had never been restricted before and he wanted to know how much he would have for his work. What he found was mildly discouraging. He only had five hundred thousand solar dollars. That wouldn’t be enough for all he wanted to do to his ship. The computer upgrades and engines would be all he could buy directly. He could get some more raw materials and manually do upgrades to some of the other systems. It wouldn’t be able to attack, but defenses would be fair. Helion ordered the materials. Then he logged on the school computer standings. His ranking had dropped from first to tenth. He was not too far behind and would be able to make up a few positions most likely. It would be a long road but the better he ranked the better school he could get into.
