Decisions of the heart

Jalawal left them eating their meal. Another member of the crew approached some time later, “Hello, my name is Jasmina. I have been directed to take you to the quarters while you will be staying while the others decide what is to become of you. If you would, please follow me.” Jasmina requested politely. “Alright, is there anything special we need to know?” Helga inquired. “Only to stay within the space I show you.” Jasmina replied. “What happens if we go other places?” Helga asked hesitantly. “Memory wipes are a painful experience. Nothing will happen until it has been decided what your disposition will be. It is for your safety we request you still within your chambers. If you are to be sent back in time, the more you see the more memories will have to be removed. We try to be as kind as possible in the execution of our mission as possible.” Jasmina responded. “What is your mission?” Helga questioned. “We protect the time continuum against total destruction. Some actions could cause he universe to defend into chaos. We do not prevent that in the natural course of actions. We prevent people from going through time and making changes purposely to change outcomes to their designs. Most people who try to time travel simply fail. Many who succeed try to make themselves rich or right a wrong they feel was unjust. We watch time for those events.” Jasmina informed her. “Sounds like a big job.” Helga said cautiously. “It is a big job but rarely do we need to execute anyone. It is typically a last resort.” Jasmina stated as they reached a doorway. “These will be your rooms for your stay with us. Take a look around and see if you require anything else for you stay.” Jasmina suggested. Helga entered the suite of rooms. There she found a kitchen area, a bedroom, a private bath and a holographic game room. The area would be plenty comfortable but lacked things to keep Helga occupied. Besides taking care of Emma there was nothing for her to really do here. She had always stayed busy. There had never been a time in her life when she wasn’t required to keep moving to survive. “Can I get some fabrics? I would like to make some new dresses for my daughter. If you can find some toys for her to keep herself occupied, that would be wonderful too.” “I will see what is available for toys and fabrics. They will have to be appropriate for your time. I shall return shortly.” Jasmina said as she walked away. Helga took stock of the suite. The kitchen was a marvel. The faucet dispensed water, juices and all manner of alcoholic beverages. The food dispenser would summon any type of food she could think of. She could summon fresh ingredients to cook for herself too. The bath was the same type of gel substance from their earlier bath. The bed was soft and inviting yet supportive. The game room was of no interest to Helga but, Helion found it interesting. If not for having to care for Emma he would love to play a few games. It was a time consuming activity though, perhaps he would find time when Emma was sleeping. Jasmina returned with fabrics and a doll. “I’m sorry the only toy I could find that was deemed appropriate for a female child of your time was this doll.” She said apologetically. “It’ll be fine. The women of my time were seen mostly as the future mothers and dolls were they only toys we typically had. Playtime was limited to the very young. Everyone in the family had to work to grow food too. It was a hard time without much time for frivolities.” Helga responded plainly. “Very well if you need anything else, press this call button beside the door and I’ll come see what you need.” Jasmina said cordially as she departed once more. Helga spent her time making dresses and singing to Emma. She cooked all heir meals from scratch too. That reminded her of her mother again. It was another way to connect her to the past at keep those memories alive.  Helion watched from the back of the mind, marveling at the woman he had falling in love with. He was witnessing her strength on full display. Their situation was wholly out of their control and she didn’t even seem concerned. She was focused on just moving forward one moment at a time. It wasn’t long before two weeks had passed. Helga was summoned to see Jalawal again. She arrived in he room where she had met him the first time. He sat at the table eating just as he had before. “We have completed our review of your case. It was a difficult one to track. They way you jumped through time made it more difficult. We had to review many different paths to find the outcomes that had impact. If you didn’t make the first jump you would’ve simply died. The soldiers you saved at the battle went on to have a great impact on your world. The one who fathered your daughter would’ve been killed without your intervention. He went on to be a great man. You caused ripples all along your path. But you had no great individual impact outside those already mentioned. As such you are free to chose your course going forward.” Jalawal informed Helga. Helga let out a sigh of relief. “Thank you. You mentioned before, you could provide a new body for my other personality. How would we go about making that happen?” Helga inquired. “That depends. If it was someone of importance and they wanted to reclaim heir own body, there is a process to complete. If it is a new body that isn’t specific it is easy.” Jalawal explained. “I was someone of importance. I was he soul heir of the Trestol family of the Calinar people.” Helion had come forward in the mind to speak for himself. “Then you know you will have to prove you are who you claim to be. It must be verified before we can remake your body.” Jalawal stated firmly. “I do. I’m not sure I desire that anymore. When I first start on this road it was just me. I had lost all that I thought was important. On the journey to get here I found, what I had been given along the way was worth more than anything I had lost. These two women before you mean everything to me and I would give anything up for them.” Helion paused to collect his thoughts. Then continued “I would like to think more about this. I think I need to discuss it with Helga and come to an agreement before I commit to making a decision on this matter. You would think after two weeks I would’ve came to a decision already, but with our future uncertain I just sat and watched them. If those were to be our last together I wanted to remember every moment.” Helion explained. “Take all the time you need. Time is irrelevant here. This ship is a nexus of time. I will let you know if we need to move. You can decide your next course of action but know this, they can go back in time. You cannot. If they stay you can reside in the same body or get yours back or a new one. You will be our guests until you decide. You can also join us in our mission. We welcome all time travelers to our ranks. That is why most of the crew member you see are of different races.” Jalawal stated invitingly. “We shall sort out what we will do next then return to find you again.” Helion replied gratefully.
