Chapter 1 – Betrayal at the Altar
Chapter 1 – Betrayed At The Altar Elara "Now I bond wolves mated for the rest of your life. Do anybody object to the couple, Isabella Frost and Dominic Blackwood?" the pack Elder asked, as I tightened the hold on Dom's fingers, my heart beating fast. One more step. I hope no one recognizes me. "I object!" Her voice cut off the silence. My heart stopped cold in my chest. I knew that voice it was identical to my own. Even without looking, I know who she is. Isabella. My twin sister. She walked in wearing the exact replica of my no, her wedding gown. Making me gulped. Why is she here? "That is not Isabella Frost!" she shouted, pointing at me. "That is my sister, Elara, an imposter who threatened my life and locked me in the dressing room!" Gasps echoed throughout the hall. The pack members whispers, some stood up to get a better view of us, the two identical women facing each other. Dominic's quickly yanked his hands away. "What is the meaning of all this?" he growled, looking at us. No! No... This wasn't the plan. This is not the plan at all... My heart pounded in my chest, making my knees weaken. Just hours ago, Isabella was begging me to take her place. Why is she doing this? Three Hours Earlier. "Please, Elara. I can't marry him. I just can't." Isabella nagged, pacing the bridal dressing room, holding the wedding gown in her hand. "But why now? You've been engaged to Dominic for months. The entire kingdom is here." "You don't understand!" Isabella threw her hands up dramatically. "He's just a beta's son! Mother and Father are forcing me into this, but I can't let that happen. I'wont let myself to bond to forever with a beta." I flinched at her words. I'd harbored feelings for Dominic since we were teenagers, something Isabella had always mocked me for. "But as for you, it's a win-win since you always likes him," Isabella continued, coming closer, her voice mockingly low. You've been crushing on him since sixth grade. Don't even deny it—I've seen how you look at him." I feel my cheecks heat up. "That's not—" "It's perfect!" Isabella cut in. "You take my place at the ceremony. So I'm not bond to him. Just for today. I can't be bond with him, I don't even love him. By tomorrow, I'll explain everything to Dominic. He'll accept you." "Isabella, that's insane. Everyone will know. I don't have your confidence, your grace. I'm just" "Just Elara. Plain, bookish Elara. The twin without a wolf." She completed. That's what she usually mocked me and my wolfless state. I lowered my eyes, couldn't face her, because she was saying the truth. Even in my twenty-one years I didn't manifest a wolf, and among werewolves, being born without a wolf spirit is considered a curse, a weakness. While Isabella manifested her powerful silver wolf at thirteen, I wolfless, cursed, incomplete, weak. "But that's why it's perfect," Isabella fake soothed, her voice honeyed now. Since no one pays attention to you. They won't even notice the difference. You'll just have to wear the dress, my makeup. And stand there for a few hours." "But the mating ceremony" "Won't happen today. "It's just vowing, just words." Isabella squeezed my hands. "Please, sister. I've never asked you for anything." But that was a lie.... Isabella always collected everything I had, throughout our lives. Im nothing but her shadow. But even though seeing her pleading eyes, I have to, if that makes her and my parents happy. I never knew it was my biggest mistake. ... PRESENT Isabella was standing beside me in the wedding dress. Didn't she say she didn't want to be bound to a beta? Her accusations rang in my ear. I've regretted what happened hours ago. Did sge planned for this? To humiliate me? "I trusted you," I whispered, my voice shaking. And I realized what a fool I'd been. Isabella just smiled evilly at me before turning to the crowd. "My sister has always been jealous of me. Born without a wolf, weak and insignificant, she's coveted everything I have." The Alpha King, an elderly man who had been watching the proceedings with narrowed eyes, raised his hand for silence. "These are serious accusations." Dominic's face had hardened into an unreadable mask. "Isabella my love is this true? Is this woman your sister?" I opened my mouth to defend myself, but no words came. The truth would condemn me, but lies seem pointless now. "Test her," someone called from the crowd. "If she's wolfless, she's not Isabella!" Isabella smiled triumphantly. "Yes, command her to shift. Everyone knows I can call my wolf in seconds." My blood ran cold. This was Isabella's trap, perfectly executed. Without a wolf, I couldn't shift, couldn't prove myself to be the true Isabella not that I was, but the betrayal still stung like wolfsbane in an open wound. "Shift," the Alpha commanded, his voice layered with alpha authority that made every werewolf in the room straighten their spines instinctively. Everyone except me. My eyes filled with tears as I stood motionless, unable to comply with the alpha command that would force any true werewolf to transform. "You see?" Isabella's voice dripped with venom. "She can't shift because she has no wolf. This is Elara, my cursed twin, trying to steal my place." Dominic released my wrist as if burned. "You locked her up to be bound to me?" "I I can explain," I stammered. "Isabella asked me to" "This morning Elara walked into the dressing room, and threatened me!" Isabella wailed, dramatically. "She confessed how she had always loved you, Dominic. How she hated me for getting everything she wanted. A wolf, getting recognised and now having a good life. But promise not this time, she'll do anything she has to get you. Then she knocked me unconscious and locked me in the closet of the bridal fitting room." My jaw dropped at her lies. "No! That's not true! She begged me to take her place because she didn't want to marry a beta's son!" A heavy silence fell over the room at my words. Dominic's eyes flashed dangerously. "A beta's son?" "But I'm not a beta's son. "I'll be the Alpha's heir and will reveal my true identity after the bounding," He uttered. Everyone I'm the crowd gasped, including me but Isabella wasn't shocked at all. And that's when it hit me. She somehow heard he's the Alpha's son and wanted to marry him. "More lies," Isabella spat, walking towards Dominic. "My love, you know, I never care about such things. I agreed to be bound with you believing you were the beta's son. That proves my love is true." I felt sick watching my sister's flawless performance. Isabella had always been the better actress, the better liar. The better everything. "But what of your sister's accusations?" the Alpha King asked. His eyes watching intently. "She's disturbed, Your Majesty. Jealous of my wolf, jealous of my engagement. She needs help, not punishment." She refused. So evil, I thought bitterly. Making herself look merciful while twisting the knife deeper. "Isabella, please," I called. "Tell them the truth." I begged, but she didn't even look my way. "The truth okay, I'll tell them the truth." Isabella spat coldly. "Elara has always hated me, and wanted what's mine," she uttered. "My wolf, my strength, my fiancé. And now she's tring to take my bounding with my mate." She turned to Dominic, her expression softening. "Forgive me for having such a cursed sister." Dominic look at her, then back at me, confused. That was the man I had crushed on for years, the kind beta's son who had always treated everyone with respect regardless of their strength. But now, he was the Alpha's heir, and even his warm eyes had turned cold as he looked at me. "Impersonating a pack member during an official bounding ceremony is a serious offense," the Alpha King declared. "But impersonating the Alpha's mate is treason," he added, making my heart drop. "No, please," I begged, backing away. "You have to listen to me." I was only trying to help Isabella. She asked me to" "Enough!" Dominic's voice thundered with newfound authority. "Guards, seize her."
