The air in Morgana’s lair pulsed with cold magic, thick enough to sting the lungs. Shadows slithered along the stone walls, whispering secrets in a language older than the realms themselves. Kellan stepped inside, shoulders rigid, jaw clenched. The darkness recognized him. Welcomed him. He hated that. Morgana didn’t turn. She stood before her scrying mirror, its fractured surface reflecting a dozen versions of her face, each one more furious than the last. “You’re late,” she said, voice smooth as venom.
