INITIATION DAY
"Today's full moon marks the 10 year anniversary of late Alpha Deena's passing after being brutally murdered, in cold heart, by the humans." growls of furry escaped the mouths of the wounded wolf pack still trying to out live the agony of loosing their Queen Alpha. "But....!!" Doughaur said with a very sharp voice trying to get the attention of the revengeful pack, "not only that, today also marks the full moon of the final initiation of our soon-to-be Queen Alpha, Deena's daughter, DONA!!!!!!" Cheers filled the cave from the excitement of anointing a new Alpha after such a long time. "DONA DONA DONA DONA!!!" the pack cheered as Dona made her way up to the hoisted rock, she could hardly hear herself speak due to how loud the cheers were, you couldn't blame the pack, Dona had previously been a great leader, even before knowing that she was the next Alpha in line.
"I have dreamt of this day since my mother died, not becoming Alpha, that's news to me too" everyone broke out in laughter. "I mean, I have dreamt of the day when I avenge my mother from the painful and undeserved treatment she got from those heartless beasts who think that they are better than us simply because they have fancy houses to live in and weird look rolling magic things that move. Listen, today, we avenge my mother, today we bring home justice for my mother and today, we show those beasts what we are made of!" The cheering started all over again, louder, more revengeful and very much more enthusiastic. Some even started jumping around in excitement. Tonight, it was gonna go down.
"Uhm, excuse me, Dona, we talked about this. The revenge, is not for tonight, tonight is solely about getting you initiated. Revenge is for another day, but that day is not today." An awkward silence befell the room as everyone waited to hear or even see what Dona's reaction was gonna be, but, instead of being angry and and jumping at Doughaur, Dona dropped her head in disappointment and walked away. She had anticipated this day for years, she wanted to make sure that the humans pay for what they did, she knew exactly what she was going to do on this particular day, but, rules are rules.
Doughaur came out to see how Dona was doing and to also give her the instructions of how everything was gonna play out. "I'm sorry Dona, but you know the rules, we can't combine the initiation and war. All there is for you to do tonight is to just retrieve the blood of a human baby, which is supposed to be the purest of the humans and bring it back to the sacred place." " I know man, its not your fault, you don't make the rules anyway. Its just that, I had this entire night planned out in my heard and I wanted to make it up to my mother." Doughaur and Dona were practically the best of friends since childhood and they were the closest of the pack, they knew everything about each other but there were surprises in store fore them both, not just Doughaur.
The challenge seemed a bit too easy for Dona to accomplish, in less than an hour she was already making her way back to the cave. As she was running across the human neighbourhood, something caught Dona's eyes. She slowly took a couple of steps back trying to make a clear view for herself. She kept coming closer and closer to the window until she came in physical contact with it. she touched it and it moved, so she managed to push it open and sneaked inside. Dona had never seen such beauty, she never ever thought humans could be this beautiful. She came closer and closer to the human girl, her skin was so clear it made the moonlight reflecting on it look so much more brighter. Dona stroked through her hair with her hand, "human hair was so soft", she pulled it close to her noise and sniffed, "and it smelled real good too." Her face was so beautiful Dona couldn't help herself, she pulled up her hand again and stroked it across the humans' silky soft face, "wow." Dona kept thinking to her self how a person could be so perfect, her thoughts were disturbed by the human as she moved, feeling something on her face, frightened, Dona made her way out the window and started running towards the woods.
She arrived with a jar full of a human baby's blood in her hand and headed straight to the sacred place where forma Pack Alpha's were laid to rest and completed her initiation process. When she walked out, she met Doughaur at the entrance as she was about to enter the cave. "All hail, Alpha Dona!!!" The wolves started cheering AWLing again, and this time around, it was an all night party and the celebrations went on till dawn.
Dona, on the other hand, wasn't exactly in the party as much as she was at it. Her mind was being ambushed by that beautiful human, she was literally all Dona could think about. She wondered if she would ever see her again, because as Alpha, her life duty was to protect and provide for the pack, and there was nowhere she could go without her guards. Dona sat and the cave entrance, basically the whole night, trying to figure out how she was ever going to see this mysterious human ever again. "Bone for a thought?" her thoughts were distracted by Doughaur who invited himself to sit.
" I'm just wondering how I'm ever gonna be as great as my mother, you know, my mother was the strongest and smartest Wolf I've ever known. No offense." "none taken" "I just don't know how I'm ever going to compete with that, you know." Dona took a deep breath and looked up to the sky as though she was looking as someone. "Come on Dona, don't go all weak on me, we just made you Alpha." They both chuckled and went silent. "But seriously. You are not Alpha by blood relation, you are Alpha because you deserve it. You are a true leader if I've ever met one, you lead this pack to great heights way before anyone knew you to be. You love this pack and you care about each and every single one of us individually. I bet you gonna be the best Alpha wolves across the world have ever seen. Come on, cheer up" he punched her gently on her shoulder and pulled her in for a hug. "Thanks Douggy" Dona said between the hug looking up at the sky, feeling very guilty about not being able to tell Doughaur about the human girl, I mean, a best friend code for all beings of the universe is 'IF YOU CANT TELL YOUR BEST FRIEND ABOUT IT, YOU PROBABLY SHOULDN'T BE DOING IT' it's THEE code.
When she woke up, Dona went down to the stream she was her face, but the entire pack was acting weird, they looked confused and some even looked a little terrified. She had no idea what was going on, she just hoped that they didn't out about her being in that other human house just to look at a person. She made her way to the stream and splashed water on her face, as she went down on her face about to take a sip, she saw something she had never seen before something that terrified her, and she screamed so loud, but because the rest of the pack had already seen it, they didn't even bother to go to her, only Doughaur did.
"Dona!!!" he came running worried to death what had happened to her "Doughaur, care to explain why suddenly, after performing your ritual, my eyes turned blood red!!!!!!" Dona growled furiously while exposing her scary sharp teeth. "Oh my fang! Dona, this is great, this is great news, though I have never heard of it happen so fast. Please, Great Alpha, finish up her and meet me at the hoisted rock back in the cave. This is great news!" Doughaur kept screaming as he ran back to the cave while gathering the rest of the pack and waited for Dona to come back into the cave also.
"Great Alpha. I was once told by my father that the wolf pack can have more than 4 classes in categories. Yes we have the blue eyed wolves who symbolise purity and the yellow eyed who represent the hunters, but, you, Your Highness are a whole new class. Only true Alphas have their eyes turn blood shot red maybe after a week or less of their initiation." The pack was confused by Doughaur's words. "Doughaur, you are supposed to be a descendant of the Wiseman clan, but everyone in here seems to know better than you that it hasn't even been 24 hours seen my coronation yet my eyes are red." Doughaur chuckled joyfully while looking around at the confused pack that stood before him.
"Your Highness, Alphas have it happen in less than a week, but Goddess Alphas like yourself, descendants of royalty who are pure of heart and true leaders, they have their eyes change in just a few hours, and because of that, your hair will also be turning into a beautifully silky white and glow in the moonlight. Yes, it may pose a threat to yo during the night, but there is good to it as well. Your hair will be unbelievably strong, hence must be cut right after it changes, because no matter where you are, your hair will always know where you are and where home is, that way you will be able to keep yourself and the pack safe at all times."
Dona thought long and hard about what Doughaur had said earlier, she knew very well that this simply meant she was on fulltime surveillance because of the glowing hair and it also meant she probably wouldn't be able to go back to the city to avoid getting caught. To her, this only meant one thing. At night fall she managed to sneak out while the pack was having a feast. She headed for the city and waited on the hills till almost everyone in that city was asleep. She knew that this was probably the last chance she had to see her, so she wasn't gonna pass it up. Towards midnight there were fewer light in the city so she went for it, she knew exactly where she was going, she knew the scent of the girl and her house in her sleep. Soon she was at the window, as always it wasn't closed, so she quietly snuck in and slowly mad her way towards the girl. This time she wasn't facing the window, she was facing the other direction, this made Dona move more confidently towards her, when she was close enough, she bent over and took a long sniff at her with her eyes closed shut, Dona loved the way the girl smelt, she loved the colour and smoothness of her hair. Just then she slowly opened her eyes and a bright light was shinning across the room. Terrified, Dona tried to run for the window, but unfortunately hit something with her head cut off a chunk of her hair. She stopped to pick up some of it, "HEY, HEEEEELP!" Dona quickly got up and managed to steal a glance at her, she had beautifully blue eyes and tiny lips that shinned from the bright.....just then, Dona noticed the glowing white hair in her hand. " Oh no. Hey, look, this isn't what it looks like. Please calm down, I'm not here to hurt you. I'm really sorry I scared you, I was just admiring your beauty because you are very beautiful." Before the girl could say anything, Dona was already out the window, she heard footsteps so she cringed under the window.
"Alex! What is it?" a grown up man, who may have been he father said as he stormed into the room. "Oh, its nothing dad. I thought I saw someone but it was just my jacket. I'm sorry I scared you." Alex replied hiding a few treads of Dona's glowing hair behind her back. "Okay, but please close that window, alright" the man said after kissing Alex's forehead and walked out. Alex headed towards the window hoping she might see Dona in the distance. "I'm gonna need that back please." "Jesus! you going to give me a heart attack, don't do that." Alex said frightened to death as she handed Dona her hair back and started shutting the window. "Thank you, for the hair and not saying anything to your father and I'm sincerely sorry for scaring you, twice. Oh, my name's Dona by the way." Dona started running for the hills.
Alex was stunned by how well mannered and sweet the werewolf was, at school, they always told them that werewolves were dangerous and heartless and showed no mercy, but, to her, was the most human werewolf she ever saw, not that she knew any either than Dona. She stood at her window watching Dona until she disappeared into the forest with her glowing white hair. Alex started blushing none stop, remembering Dona's admiration. "Werewolves are real, and my first encounter with one was more pleasant than most of my first encounters with humans." Alex thought to herself. She danced her way back to bed and just tossed herself on it, "Her name's Dona" Alex took out the last tread of Dona's hair that she had and sniffed it before closing her eyes and going back to sleep.
Back at the cave, Dona had never seen Doughaur so mad yet so excited. "Dona, seriously, you cannot be wondering off like that in the middle of the night. I know you are a wolf and can take care of yourself, but as from now going forward, its no longer just about you. You have a whole pack to take care of, please Dona. On a totally unrelated note. Your hair is IT!!" " I know right, its just like the IT of the times." The two couldn't contain the excitement they were even jumping around, it goes without saying, Dona and Doughaur are true friends and they go a long way. "Oh, you said it needed to be cut right, here." Dona handed Doughaur the hair in the hand. "I thought it was supposed to be cut at a please that gives you peace and happiness, and my dad told me that the place is the burial field, Dona?" He gave her 'the look' Dona actually understood and believed that because, whenever she goes to see that girl, her heart is always at peace so there is a possibility that that's her new place of peace. "Come on Doughaur, I mean, it can't always be the same place for everyone. My mother is lying in that place, it wasn't her time and i haven't made peace with that. It may not be my peaceful space." "Dona you always go there when you are not feeling at ease" "It's done man, I can't go in there and recut hair that's already been cut, unless you want me to" "No, it's fine. May I be excused?" Dona shrug her shoulders as a sign of agreement.
It has been weeks now since Dona saw Alex, Doughaur has made sure that Dona doesn't even take a single breathe without her guards knowing about it. They are always just a couple of steps away from where Dona stands, and to make matters worse, Dona was no longer allowed to go hunting because of her previous stunt. Dona knew all too well that once Doughaur goes entirely wolf proof on her, there's no escaping. At this point she only hoped and prayed for a miracle. Dona spent most of her nights outside the cave, just sitting staring at the moon and the stars, which conveniently looked a lot like Alex. Even then, her watch dogs were never too far from where she sat and to make things worse, her glowing white hair got her busted for every move that she made. She tried many times to come up with a plan to cover her hair or even change it, but not even once has she succeeded. After being on house arrest for months, Doughaur finally decided it would do her some good to go out and catch her own food will the rest of the hunters, of Couse, her watch dogs would be nowhere but 2 feet from wherever she stands throughout the night. Annoying as that was, Dona was still just grateful to be out in the fields again where all the thrill was, instead of being cooped up with the pups and grown ups in the cave.
From the distance, Dona picked up a very familiar scent and it kept on getting stronger and stronger and she tried to figure out where it could be coming from. With a memory as sharp as that of a hard drive, Dona instantly recognised and remembered the scent and started running towards the direction that it came. With feet as light as the wind and arms as strong a concrete, Dona ran as fast as she could trying to make sure that by the time her watch dogs catch up Alex is long gone. "Alex, what are doing here. It's not safe. You are gonna get yourself killed." "Why, because I don't have sharp teeth and glowing compass hair like you. you haven't visited in 2 months Dona and I kind of miss, I'm sorry I scared you off the other day." Dona's heart warmed up to Alex's words, she never thought she would ever hear her say that, especially not after how she reacted the last time. "Alex, you did nothing wrong, and please believe I miss you too. But it is very dangerous for you out here. I promise I'll come and visit you soon, for now please go......Run Alex please." AWOL's broke from the direction Dona came and right then Alex knew she had to run. The wolves came running but stopped as soon as they saw Dona. Doughaur came towards Dona and leaned towards her ear, "You will get her killed, unless she is our target." Fear paralysed Dona's body knowing very well what Doughaur was talking about, she wasn't scared for herself, she feared for Alex's life. Dona looked back trying to trace Alex and just hoping she got home safe.
