Chapter 6

I lay on my bed, still reminiscing about the day's activities, my mind wandering through the events like a butterfly flitting from flower to flower. The memory of the doctor's appointment, the luxurious salon, and the delicious dinner lingered in my thoughts, bringing a sense of comfort and tranquility. As I drifted off into a state of relaxation, I heard a knock at the door, breaking the silence like a stone cast into a still pond. "Come in," I replied, my voice barely above a whisper. A girl dressed in black, just like Agnes, walked in, her movements quiet and efficient. She approached me with a mysterious object in her hand, and I felt a surge of curiosity. "Mr. Evans instructed us to give you this," she said, her voice devoid of emotion. "It has already been set up." She handed me a sleek, black phone, and I felt like a kid on Christmas morning. I nodded, and she left, closing the door behind her. My eyes glistened with joy as I gripped the phone, almost crushing it in my excitement. I had never owned a phone before, and the feeling of having this powerful device in my hands was exhilarating. My finger glided across the dark screen, trying to emulate what Maya usually did, but nothing happened. I continued fondling with it, too ashamed to ask for help. I didn't want to appear foolish or incompetent in front of the staff. But I was determined to figure it out. After a few minutes of fiddling, I pressed the button on the side, and the screen lit up. I swiped on it, and it unlocked, revealing a world of possibilities. I scrolled through the contacts, and my heart skipped a beat when I saw only two names: Aunt Agnes and Mr. Evans. How nice, I thought, feeling a sense of connection to the people who mattered. As I continued to explore my new device, I decided to go downstairs to show Aunt Agnes my phone. I walked through the dimly lit hallway, which always gave me a chilly feeling. The shadows seemed to move and twist, like living things. As I walked, I could hear Mr. Evans talking in his usual low, commanding voice. "I'll get her a nutritionist," he said. "She's fragile now. I want her well-fed and taken care of. No excuses." "Yes, Evan," Aunt Agnes replied, her voice soft and submissive. I felt a pang of curiosity, wondering what Mr. Evans's interest in my health was all about. I approached them, my eyes glued to the floor. "Ma... Ma... Master," I stuttered, playing with my nails. "Thank you for the phone," I managed to say, trying to sound grateful. Mr. Evans's cold eyes looked at me, and I felt a shiver run down my spine. "Don't ever call anyone master," he said, his voice firm but controlled. He looked at Aunt Agnes with a knowing glance, and she nodded in response. He sauntered off, leaving Aunt Agnes and me alone. I rushed over to her, excitement bubbling up inside me. "Aunt, take a look at my phone," I said, my cheeks bursting with joy. We sat down together, and Aunt Agnes showed me how to use the phone's various features. We giggled and chatted, the tension in the air dissipating. For a moment, I forgot about the mysteries and secrets that surrounded me. Meanwhile, in his study, Mr. Evans sat at his desk, his eyes fixed intently on a document. His brow furrowed as he read, his expression growing darker with each passing moment. "Fractures in her thigh and hands?" he muttered, his voice low and menacing. "How the hell is she even able to walk at this point?" He placed the report down, his eyes scanning the room as if searching for answers. He popped open his laptop, and looked at file he received . "Hmmm, adopted by the Stanfords, is it?" he mumbled under his breath. His grip tightened, almost breaking his bones, as he read on. His face remained void of emotion, but his eyes betrayed a hint of concern. He picked up his phone and dialed a number. "James, look deeper into the Stanfords," he said, his voice cold and calculating. "Something isn't right." There was a pause, and then he spoke again, his voice dripping with menace. "I'll crush the Stanford group beneath my feet, and I'll make sure there is no one left in their lineage." A creepy smile spread across his face. As the night wore on, I remained oblivious to the danger that lurked in the shadows. I was too caught up in my newfound joy, too distracted by the phone and the attention Thank you guys so much love y’all ❤️ your encouragement keep me going
