Episode 1
( Encountering the cold boss )
As Rose stepped off the elevator onto the 30th floor, the sleek glass walls seemed to whisper, "Welcome to Blackwood Inc., where only the strongest survive." She straightened her blazer, a surge of determination coursing through her veins. This was her dream job, and she was ready to prove herself.
But as she approached her new desk, a chill ran down her spine. The CEO, Lucas Ryder , stood at the coffee machine, his piercing blue eyes fixed on her like a hawk. The office buzzed around them, but he seemed to command the room without even trying.
"Ms. Rose ," he said, his voice low and smooth, as he handed her a document. "I heard your the new secretary, come to my office", he said
Rose heart skipped a beat. This was going to be interesting.
Rose took the document, her fingers brushing against Ryder's. The touch sent a spark through her, but she kept her cool. "yes sir" she said, keeping her cool.
Ryder left and Rose follow. Ryder sat on his chair while Rose stood there wondering what could be the problem. "Let's get one thing clear, Ms Rose. If you're gonna be my secretary, you would need to be punctual to work and always get my documents ready" He said as he pointed a pile of documents
Rose was shocked to see the pile of documents, but she nodded. "Got it, Mr Ryder." Rose carried all the document.
As she turned to head to her desk, Ryder's voice stopped her. "Oh, and Rose get me a cup of coffee"." Yes sir" she turned and left for her desk. Rose dropped the documents on her desk and went to get the coffee. As she was waiting for the coffee she wondered what kind of boss he is.
Rose took the coffee to Ryder's office. As she turned to shop leave. Ryder stopped her, " I don't tolerate incompetence. Don't make me regret hiring you."
The warning was clear, but Rose just smiled. "I don't plan to, Mr Ryder."
Lexi dove headfirst into her new role, impressing everyone with her work ethic and creativity. Ryder, on the other hand, seemed to be watching her every move, his piercing gaze making her skin tingle.
One evening, as she was working late, Ryder appeared at her desk. "You're not going home, Rose ?" he asked, his voice low.
Rose looked up, wondering if he wants to give her more work. "Just finishing up this report, Mr Ryder."
He leaned against the desk, his eyes scanning her screen. "Let me see."
As he reviewed her work, his face inches from hers, Rose felt her breath catch. Suddenly, he pointed to a section. "This needs tweaking. Do it like this."
Rose's hand brushed against his as she took notes, and Ryder's gaze snapped to hers. For a moment, they just stared, the tension between them palpable.
Then, Ryder straightened, his mask slipping back into place. "When you're done, Rose. Head home."
Rose nodded, her heart still racing, and packed up her things. As she left the office, she couldn't shake the feeling that Ryder was a bit cute.
The next day, Rose arrived at the office early, determined not to get on the bad side of the boss. As she settled in at her desk, a pile of documents appeared in front of her. A note was attached:
"Get this documents ready"
rose wondering if she offended the boss in her past life. She looked around, but Ryder was already in a meeting. The rest of the office was buzzing with curiosity.
"Rose Looks like you've offended the boss" her coworker, Sophia whispered.
Rose smiled, playing it cool. " I don't think so , Sophia."
But as the day went on, Ryder's behavior was anything but mistaken. He caught her eye in meetings, his gaze lingering. He asked her to stay late to "discuss a project". And when she left, he walked her to the elevator, his hand brushing against hers.
As the doors closed, Rose felt bit weird. Wondering what she has done to offend her boos.
As the elevator doors closed, Ryder stepped closer, his voice low. " I need you to work overtime at my place, Rose."
Rose's heart skipped a beat. She felt a flutter in her chest, but she kept her cool. "Ok, Mr Ryder."
The elevator pinged, and the doors opened to the lobby."Don't get me wrong, am not coming to the office tommorow and I need the documents to be ready,am having a meeting outside the office". he said. Rose was relieved to hear that.
Ryder pulled up to a sleek penthouse apartment overlooking the city. "I need you to finish the Anderson report tonight," he said.
Inside, the penthouse was minimalist chic – glass, steel, and views that made Rose's breath catch. Ryder handed her a laptop. "Work in the study. I'll be in the living room if you need me."
As she worked, Rose couldn't help but sneak glitches at Ryder. He was on his phone, looking intense, his eyes fixed on the city below. Focus, Rose, focus.
Hours passed. Rose finished the report, and Ryder reviewed it, standing behind her chair. "Perfect," he said, his breath on her neck.
Suddenly, the clock on the wall chimed 2 AM. Rose jumped up. "Oh no, it's late!"
Ryder's eyes met hers, the tension between them crackling. "Too late to drive home. You can stay here."
Rose heart skipped. "I...okay."
Ryder led her to a guest room. "Get some sleep. We'll talk in the morning."
As Rose shut the door, she heard Ryder's voice, low and rough. "Great work , Rose."
Rose changed into the comfy PJs Ryder had left out for her, her mind racing. What was happening between them? She slipped into bed, feeling the soft sheets, and drifted off.
The next thing she knew, sunlight was streaming in, and Ryder was standing in the doorway, a cup of coffee in hand. "Your awake ," he said, his eyes cr crling.
Rose sat up, pulling the sheets up. "Good morning sir."
Ryder handed her the coffee. "Breakfast is ready. We need to talk about Anderson deal."
As they ate in the kitchen, the deal talk turned into something more. Ryder's gaze lingered on hers, and Lexi felt like she was drowning in his eyes.
Suddenly, he pushed his chair back. "Rose, If you're done you can go to the office."
To be continued.
