Chapter 8

1036 Words
Luna and Sadie looked at each other confused and lost. What were the odds that Michelle was her niece? They finished their work and headed home for the day. To their pleasant surprise, Michelle never showed up. On their ride home Sadie have more questions about this double date.  “So, do you know who his cousin is?” Sade said.  “No, I don’t have the slightest idea, not even a picture.” Luna admitted.  Sadie rolled her eyes and looked out of the window. “Well, you can count me out because I don’t know what I’m going into,” Sade huffed.  Luna park the car into the driveway and turned Sadie’s direction. “As much as you get onto me, I try my best not to judge you when you’re down but I’m going to give you the advice that you would give me. That being you need to leave me alone if he’s not willing to have a committed relationship with you that you’re looking for.” At this point Sadie had her arms crossed and turned from looking out of the window back at Luna. “It’s just complicated, OK? I’m not like you, what you and Steven shared was genuine and real compared to me and Matt.”  “You’re telling me that you don’t deserve a real and genuine relationship?” Luna asked as she turned the car engine off.  “No that is not what I’m trying to say. I just don’t want to get hurt. Matt is my safe place because I already know not to expect too much out of him.”  Luna rolled her eyes and picked up her phone. She text Luke letting him know that they were on for the double date and to just let her know when. “For the first time I need you to take your own advice that you give me. If I’m willing to put myself out there for Luke then you can meet someone new and do the same. Who knows, you could really hit it off with his cousin.” Luna said.  “Okay But just one date and if I give you a code word that I’m ready to go, then just be ready.” Sade agreed.  They stepped out of the car and on the doorstep was another bouquet of flowers. “Awwh, he’s so thoughtful! I know Luke had to bring these” Luna shrieked. “Of course he did, Matt told me he went out of town so he had to,” Sade said. Luna picked up the flowers and added them along side the other two bouquets. She texted Luke thanking him for the flowers. An hour passed and they decided to make dinner. Spaghetti with sauce and a side salad. Luna started the meat and Sade boiled eggs for a house salad. They chatted and took turns scrolling on their phones and checking on their food that was cooking. Luna had a subconscious idea to continue to check her phone. Still no message from Luke. At this point they had been in contact constantly texting and facetiming each other. Luna would take breaks at work just to call him, and they even started falling asleep on the phone together unintentionally. Luna boiled her pasta and finished off her meat. She added her sauce and put it all together in a pan and topped the dish with cheese to go into the oven for baking. Sade’s eggs were ready, and she prepped the salad and poured wine. “I love our pasta night,” Sade said. She looked over at Luna and noticed she seemed distracted. The timer went off and Luna took the dish out of the oven. They ate their meals and cleaned behind themselves. Still no word from Luke. “I haven’t heard from Luke since I started my shift. Do you think something is wrong?” Luna asked Sade. “No, I mean he may just be tied up right now. I don’t think it’s healthy for you to jump headfirst so fast. Keep in mind you guys are casually dating,” Sade said with her eyebrows raised. Luna hated that about Sade. She told her exactly like it was, and even though she didn’t want to hear it she knew she was right. Luna rolled her eyes and curled her lips to the side of her mouth. “I guess you’re right,” Luna said. They sat up awhile talking and binge watching a few shows on tv and headed to bed. Luna laid in bed and felt a slight sense of sadness rush over her. She always over thought when she got alone in bed to herself. “What if he’s not interested anymore?” “Did I do something to piss him off?” “Maybe he’s already tired of me,” she thought. She set her alarm and closed her eyes until she drifted off into a sleep. That night Luna’s dream was so vivid. Her dreamt started with her walking on the edge of the beach. The tide brushed in and out with crystal blue water. She stepped a bit father in, and a large tide almost knocked her over when she fell back into the arms of a man. He grabbed her waist and squeezed her tight. She felt safe and happy. They both went under and floated apart slightly. She made her way above water and brushed the water and hair away from her eyes. When she opened her eyes there was Stephen. “Ding, Ding, Ding!” Her phone alarm rang waking her up. It was time for her to get ready for class. She hit her snooze and flopped back into her pillow with her face scrunched up from being annoyed. She sat the phone down and picked it back up, still nothing from Luke.
