Charlotte's POV
Its been two days since the Councilman was here. He clearly suspected something but had no reason to look further or believe Xavier was lying. I couldn't help but feel guilty that this mess is all because of me. I can feel the mate bond getting stronger and stronger and even though I love it I am worried that I won't be able to leave if I need to. All of these people I care about are in danger and risking others lives as well as their own just to keep me safe. It's starting to eat at me.
I look up from a book that I was reading to watch Xavier reading scouting reports from his warriors. His focus kept him looking down in concentration and gave me the opportunity to study him. He was wearing a white t-shirt that hugged his body perfectly. His arms were casually flexed while he shuffled papers in between both hands to read. His chiseled jaw and sharp features seemed to soften slightly as he sat in an arm chair next to the fire place. This had become our evening routine lately. When the craziness of the day seemed to die down we would retire to the living room to read reports and talk about anything but the stressful lives we led. It was a way to escape the crazy and begin to bond uninterrupted.
I can feel Calypso pushing me towards him. She is growing restless and tired of my hesitations but she still respects me and ends up giving up her plea after a while.
"If you keep staring at me like that I am not going to be able to get this work done little one." He didn't even look up to see me looking in that direction. I blushed and looking back down at my book. I had found a memoir my mother had hidden in the books on the bookcase. It was detailed with spells she was learning and I was just starting to learn of the first few encounters between her and my father. The shock was apparent between both of them as she wrote to remember those moments. Passion and love soon overcame them and they started to devise a plan to run away from their lives. Dad was running away from his duty as an Alpha and the family legacy and mom from the same legacy but instead a coven. They were a modern day Juliet and Romeo in my opinion. I honestly felt like I was part of some cliché story about star-crossed lovers.
"Your blush is going to make me loose control of my wolf and come over there to kiss you," he threatened lovingly while finally lifting his head to look at me. This time he placed his paperwork down on the side table next to his bourbon and began to stand up. The shirt pulled tight against his pecs and abs and I felt my stomach flip as my mouth began to water. The pull towards him was to strong and I was going to break eventually if he kept dressing this way. The blue jeans fit comfortably on his hips still hanging just low enough that it made me wonder what he looks like without any clothes.
His low growl made my eyes snap back up to his. They were completely black an I know that his Wolf Hades had pushed forward and taken control. "My my little wolf," Hades talked a little deeper then Xavier and was a little gruff, "you didn't take his warning into consideration, now it's my turn to play with my mate." I felt scared and shrunk back into my armchair. I knew I wouldn't outrun him and giving him a chance to chase would only make it worse.
"Ha...Hades," I stammered putting my knees to my chest to make him see he was scaring me. "Please let Xavier back into control you are scaring me, I don't want our first time meeting to be like this,"
I closed my eyes and hoped he would listen. I heard a whine and eventually looked up to see Xavier's eyes looking back at me. "I am so sorry little one, we are trying very hard to give you space and time to adjust to our lifestyle." Xavier took a few conscious steps forward and put his hand on my knee rubbing small circles on it. The tingles erupted where he touched. "It's taking everything I have to not mark you, I want every wolf to know you are mine, and so does Hades."
"I know, I am sorry to be making you struggle." Calypso whined softly when I finished talking to show her regrets as well.
"Don't you worry about a thing little one, this is very good practice for us to work on our control. If the witch ever shows up we may have to make it so that we use the bunker as our safe house. I feel like something big is going to happen and we need in there to guarantee the safety of you, your family and my pack." His honesty and trust in me shone through when he let me in on his plan. He wasn't going to treat me as a lessor person.
"Our pack?" I asked wanting clarification on his chosen language. Last I checked I didn't have a pack.
"Yes Charlotte, You will become the Luna to my pack and we will run things and work to guarantee the success of everyone in it. That is our job, to provide a loving environment for each individual wolf to feel independent and follow their own passions but safe and loved as a member of our community. It is our duty." The pride and love he felt for his pack members could almost be felt as he talked. "But we can talk about this much later little one, right now I would like to kiss you." He leaned in so his face was inches from mine making my breathe hitch. His scent surrounded me almost blinding my self control as i felt safe being so close to him. "May I kiss you Charlotte?"
My stomach was in knots and my brain felt disconnected from my mouth as a gulped and nodded yes because no words would form. His breath fanned over me creating a cool breeze cascading over my skin. Leaning further his lips touched mine and I felt the mate bond strengthen at the shared intimacy. Electricity shot through my body making my core clench and with that I opened my lips granting him more access. Our tongues clashing in a beauty dance of dominance as he reached his hand behind my head to support me. I felt tears roll down my cheeks as I realized that this was what I had been missing my whole life. I felt completely lost in the sensations I was having. This beautiful feeling of safety and love poured into me from him. This moment is when I understood everything they ever said about mates and the connection. I would never love anyone else.
To my disappointment he pulled away to allow me to take a breath. I hadn't even realized I needed to breathe, the air hitched in my throat as i saw the lust swirling in his eyes.
"That's enough for now little one, we should go get some sleep, have have training in the morning." His reply to what I am sure was my own lustful look had me bewildered. How can a man have this much control?
Grabbing my had he pulled me up from the chair and placed my book on the side table. "Come on, it's time you try and get a good nights sleep for once," his smile showed me that he knew exactly what he was doing. He knew the state I was in. He knew all to well the torture my brain was putting my body through with images of us together swirling in my brain.
We stood completely lost in each others eyes as my legs had yet to regain control. The fire dimmed unexpectedly and the lights from the kitchen began to flicker. Xavier pulled me behind him and placed me between himself and the fire growling lowly at the cold feeling that crept into the room. The air became crisp and I could see our breathe fanning into the air even though the fire was still glowing behind me. The flickering stopped and the fire roared to life again but the chill in our bones remained.
The silence was eerie, a single knock sounded on the front door making both of us jump. "Go hide behind the couch Charlotte, do not call out unless I tell you to." His tone was commanding and before I knew it my feet had carried me to the hiding place. Ducking down I made myself as small as possible and tried to quiet my panicked breathing.
Hearing his footsteps walk into the granite foyer and the creak of the door open there was a soft female voice I had never heard before, "Alpha, how nice to see you again."
"Cindy," I heard Xavier breathe in relief. "You are days late and didn't send any messages to let us know when you would arrive." There was a hint of annoyance in Xavier's questioning tone.
"Oh silly boy, just because your wolves didn't see me doesn't mean I wasn't hear watching you. Along with those pesky blood suckers waiting outside the borders you established I wasn't the only one watching you."
"What do you mean?" I could almost palpate Xavier's temper rise.
"Let me in before I am seen and we can sit down." With that I heard the door open more and heels began clicking on the granite tile. The footsteps sounded confident and almost reminded me of my mothers, they commanded respect and attention.
"Oh and young Charlotte," the female voice shouted from the foyer, "You can come out from hiding, when your aura is this strong you can not hide from another witch. We can sense you."
"It's alright Charlotte, you can come out, it is just Cindy, our family friend." As I stood up their footsteps approached the living room entrance and I was created by Xavier and one of the most beautiful women I had ever met.
Her black wavy hair fell down to her waist in long shiny locks. She was dressed in what I would call lingerie. A black lace corset with panels in the top to hide very small amounts of her assets left little to the imagination. She continued to walk over to the bar area in the corner and poured herself a glass of whisky. She wore black leather tights that accented every curve all the way down from perfectly toned legs to her red bottom heels. She exuded confidence like it dripped off her.
Turning around she flashed a smile at me and I gasped as I looked into eyes almost identical to mine. Her eyes flashed with recognition and shock. The glass slipped from her hand and crashed to the floor shattering. The sound was heard upstairs and we all heard footsteps running around above us and eventually down the stairs as Carson and Emma came around the corner to see what was going on.
The silence stayed as everyone starred between us.
"Who are you?" Cindy asked in almost a whisper.
I looked at Xavier for guidance and he nodded in approval for me to tell her.
"My name is Charlotte Garcia, I am the daughter of Zane Garcia and Katherine Semoura." As I finished I could see the tears build in her eyes. I didn't know what was happening so i stayed still as she started to creep slowly towards me in disbelief.
"My dear, we heard rumors they escaped but we never found any proof, they have been alive all these years." She starred at the ground trying to comprehend the news. It was clear she knew who my parents were but what scared me was I didn't know how.
Bringing her eyes back to mine she looked at me like she was reading my soul. "My full name is Cynthia Semoura, I am your mother's sister.
Xavier growled from behind her and moved quickly around the furniture to again place me behind him to protect me.
"What is it you want then Cindy?" He said pushing some power behind his voice to make it clear that he would protect me.
"I would like to talk with my niece! Clearly we have some catching up to do." She almost chuckled at her statement but it didn't seem to cut any of the tension that was building in the room.
Carson and Emma moved around us and stood on either side of me to create a shield if needed.
"There's no need to take a defense Alpha. I am the one that helped them escape all those years ago." She almost scolded Xavier as if he should know that himself.
"How do I know I can trust you? You said yourself that many others are watching us." Emma and Carson stilled at the news but began to scan the surroundings outside.
"Here, I'll just show you," with that smoke began to build out of the fire as she waved her hand upwards standing next to the fire. Snapping her fingers she began to hum something similar to what I had heard my mother hum before. It sounded like an Celtic song as she continued. Finishing the song we watched as the smoke circled above us and a picture almost like a movie began to develop in the grey smoke.
Images of my mom and dad appeared of them being injected by Luke with a needle in their neck. Their bodies crumbled to the ground. Flames were burning a house down in the background and wolves and people were running everywhere. Luke picked up my mother gently and what looked like two warriors pulled my comatose father along by his arms. They were placed in a vehicle and then a younger version of the woman in front of us appeared shaking Luke's hand and giving him a quick kiss they embraced and she jumped into a truck as my parents were placed inside and they drove away from the chaos.
The smoke began to dissipate and we all looked back down at her. I felt a different connection to her then what I had with Xavier, it was one of gratefulness and thankfulness. I pushed past the three of them and ran into her arms feeling like I was hugging my own mother again. She even smelt just like the incense my mother had burning all the time.
"My dear Charlotte, you are such a beautiful young lady. Your mother told me she was with child but once I placed the two of them on a plane I never heard anything from them ever again." She cried into my arms as I sobbed into hers.
"I think it's time we all sit down and have a talk, I'll grab some drinks and clean up the one you spilt." Xavier's voice was still armed with hesitation but I could see that huis shoulders had visibly relaxed some.
It took about two hours to fill Cynthia in on the past eighteen years and the events of the past couple days. She listened intently wanting to hear every detail as we laughed and cried over some of the stories of my fathers shenanigans teasing my mother.
"Well my love you are spitting image of your mother at your age. She was the most beautiful woman I have ever met, and she had the same glow when she fell in love as well." Her compliment had me blushing but it only got worse when she applied that I was in love. I quickly glanced at Xavier seeing him look at me with love and affection.
"We are fated mates Cynthia. Charlotte is the only thing I live and breathe for now." Xavier's announcement had Cynthia tearing up again.
"Well then there is a few things we need to discuss. There is about two hundred blood suckers surrounding this place with more arriving everyday. There is also wolves that aren't from your pack but they aren't rogues either. There seems to be another Alpha and one of the Vamps meeting daily. I concealed myself and listened in. They are waiting for you to open some vault so they can attack. They planned to to take you and all your warriors out as well as whoever it was they were searching for. I take it that was you Charlotte."
Everyone fell into another uncomfortable silence again. This was dangerous, and who ever it was had no problem using the situation to hurt Xavier as well.
"Listen to me Charlotte, while it was frowned upon there was half of our coven that believed your parents should have been allowed to live a life together without question. However, the other half consisting of mostly elders believed that they should have been separated and your father killed." She was sitting on one of the couches with Emma and Carson on either side of her. Taking a long sip of her drink she continued, "I just wanted everyone to chose who they love. I myself had fallen in love with one hunky warrior but of course it was forbidden. We weren't mates but we found love while protecting your parents."
"So what now?" I asked. Clearly we were out numbered and couldn't make our way out but if we stayed we would be in the same position.
"I think we get back down into the safe house and then you and I need to reach out to your mother. I can keep that entire safe house protected but we need help from her as she created the protection spell herself. If we try to reinforce it and we do it wrong it could back fire and we would have no protection."
"I'll start gathering the warriors quietly and get them ready to move in. We still can't open the door though, Emma told us that Katherine was the only one that could open it."
"No that's not right Alpha, if Charlotte found the escape door and it opened for her then she alone is the key. She only has to touch it and it should open and lock. Gather a few at the time, we can't let the others know that you know about them."
With a nod Xavier's eyes clouded over and he began mindlinking a few warrior at a time. There was about thirty of them and we would all need food and sleeping arrangements made to safely fit us all in there.
Cynthia clapped her hands down on to her lap standing up and holding her hand out for me to grab. "Well my dear it is time to go open a vault, are you ready to start learning just how strong of a witch you really are?"
