Finn sat alone in his bedroom, with Mira’s touch haunting his memory. Every moment they’d shared replayed vividly the warmth of her skin, the sound of her voice, the scent that had driven his wolf mad with longing.
Needing to clear his head, he stripped and stepped under the shower. As hot water cascaded over him, he glanced at the mirror and froze.
There, behind his reflection, stood his wolf. A massive, dark-furred beast with burning amber eyes stared back at him.
“You’re back,” Finn whispered in disbelief.
The wolf’s growl was deep, primal, and powerful. After five years… we’re whole again.
Finn’s chest tightened, his wolf had returned after all the torment, after Simon’s betrayal, after losing everything. Now he could finally face the cousin who had destroyed him.
He called his Beta, Rowan, immediately. “Find out what you discovered about the drug.”
Rowan hesitated, then handed him a tablet. “Alpha… you need to see this.”
The footage showed Anita pouring something into his milk.
Finn’s heart sank. Guilt and shame washed over him. He’d blamed Mira. He’d called her a liar. But she’d been innocent all along.
The next morning, he sent her a message but she never replied so he went to her office himself.
When she saw him, she kept typing as though he wasn’t there.
“I owe you an apology.”
Her hands paused over the keyboard. Slowly, she lifted her gaze. The fury in her eyes was enough to make even an Alpha falter , but when he spoke again, there was sincerity in his tone she couldn’t ignore.
“I was wrong. About everything.”
Something in her expression softened. For the first time, she let him explain.
And that was when Finn realized the truth she was his mate. His wolf howled inside him, recognizing her instantly.
“You knew,” he said quietly.
Mira’s lips trembled before she nodded. “Yes. But it doesn’t matter anymore. I’m married, Finn.”
He frowned. “Married? Then why does your file say nothing about a husband or your pup’s father?”
She looked away. “Some things are better left in the past.”
But Finn wasn’t one to back down easily. Eventually, with persistence and charm, he convinced her to have lunch with him.
When she finally agreed, he took her to one of the finest restaurants in the city.
As Finn and Mira settled down, a waiter approached to take their orders. Mira finally ordered a drink only while Finn ordered water. “I wanted to treat you to lunch,” he said. “I already ate.” She replied flatly.
“Are you still angry at me?” He asked and she shook her head. “No I'm not”
As Mira turned to glance at the restaurant's aesthetics, she noticed something. Simon!.
Simon walked in with Rachel who was now his wife. His smug smile faded the moment his eyes landed on Finn and Mira.
“Well, if it isn’t my dear cousin,” Simon said, approaching them. The moment he and Finn set eyes on each other, the atmosphere tensed up and Mira could feel it. Finn was her mate so she could adopt his feelings.
Mira blinked in shock. “Cousin?” she whispered, turning from one Finn to Simon.
Simon’s smirk was obvious. “So, Finn, tell me, what brings you and my ex-wife together?”
Finn’s jaw tightened at the sound of the word, ex-wife.
Rachel shifted uncomfortably beside Simon, glancing between them. While Finn gave Mira a stare. “Is he saying the truth?” He asked.
“It's personal. I do not want to talk about it” she said. Mira grabbed her bag wanting to leave.
Before Finn could speak, Simon grabbed Mira’s wrist.
“Let her go,” Finn growled, his wolf rising close to the surface.
“It’s fine,” Mira says quickly. “This is between us.”
He hated the way she looked at him, pleading, calm, determined. Jealousy coiled tight in his chest, but he forced himself to step back. “If he tries anything… I'll be right there. ” Finn says.
“I can handle Simon,” she replied, pulling her hand free from his grasp.
Simon smirked, dragging her toward the exit as Rachel tried to stop him.
Outside, Simon turned on Mira, his composure unraveling. “So this is why you disappeared? To be with Finn? You chose him over me?”
Mira glared at him, disgust clear in her eyes. “Don’t flatter yourself, Simon. I left because you cheated!”
His grin turned cruel. “Then come back. Be my concubine again. You were good at obeying, remember?”
Her palm connected with his cheek so hard that it echoed through the hallway. “You disgust me,” she spat. “I’d rather die than be yours again.”
Simon’s jaw tightened, but before he could retaliate, Mira stormed back into the restaurant, her aura blazing with fury.
Finn saw her first, the anger, the trembling. His instincts roared. “What did he do?”
Simon stepped in a moment later, rubbing his face where she’d slapped him.
That was all it took for Finn to fight back.
The restaurant was in chaos as tables crashed and chairs splintered under their blows. Simon matched his strength, both men fighting like wolves even in human form.
“Enough!” Mira shouted, but neither of them heard.
Finally, Rachel and Mira threw themselves between the two Alphas. Mira’s heart raced so fast her vision blurred and before Finn could reach her, she passed out.
“Mira!” he shouted, catching her before she hit the floor.
Her skin was pale, her breathing shallow. Panic flooded through him as he carried her to his car.

The doctor stepped out of the room an hour later, adjusting his glasses.
“She’s fine,” he said, “but she’s exhausted physically. Her wolf is overworked.”
Finn frowned. “What caused it?”
The doctor hesitated. “Has she… had any recent intimate activities? That could trigger temporary depletion.”
Mira sat upright after she heard the doctor's words from her unconscious state. She's been celibate for many years, she didn't think that one night of intimacy could affect her this much.
After her discharge, Finn insisted on driving her home.
In no time, they reached her mansion’s gate. Finn dropped down before he opened the door for her.
He wanted to assist her inside her apartment when she stopped him. “I can walk,” she says softly.
“I don't mind doing this for you. You're my responsibility, Mira. If we didn't have s*x, maybe you wouldn't be this week” he replied
Her cheeks flushed pink. Mira still insisted he let her. After walking to the doorway, she noticed he wasn't leaving. He stood there, by his car, watching her. She turned.
“Would you like to stay for dinner?”
He nodded silently.
Inside, Mira busied herself in the kitchen while Finn played video games with Jamie. The boy’s laughter filled the room, easing the tension between them.
“You’re really good at this, Alpha Finn!” Jamie grinned. Then, without hesitation, he added, “I wish you were my dad.”
The controller slipped slightly from Finn’s hand. He looked at the boy, then toward the kitchen, where Mira was pretending not to have heard.
Jamie’s words echoed in his mind.
Mira hasn’t told him about Simon. This made him think deeply. Why would such a good woman be married to his cousin, Simon?.
After a while, Mira was done cooking and they all ate together. Finn had a great time feeding Jamie his meal.
“Goodnight mummy” Jamie whispered half asleep as Mira walked out of his bedroom. In the hallway, she met Finn waiting for her to come out.
“Is he asleep?” Finn asked. “Yes he is” she responded.
Mira walked Finn out to his car, the night breeze brushing lightly against her skin.
Finn slid his hands into his pockets, his gaze lingering on her.
“So,” he began quietly, “you and Simon… what really happened between you two?”
Mira’s steps faltered for a second. “It just didn’t work out,” she said.
He tilted his head slightly, reading the hesitation in her voice. “Didn’t work out?” he repeated, unconvinced. “Or was there something else?”
Her eyes flickered away. “It’s in the past, Finn. I do not want to talk about it.
They reached his car, and just as she turned to say goodbye, their hands brushed — and the mate bond ignited like a spark, pulling them closer before either could resist.
“Mira…” he called.
Before she could respond, Finn’s lips met hers. Hot, desperate, and full of everything they’d both been denying. She didn’t stop him. The world stilled around them, until finally, he pulled back, breathless.
“I’ll see you soon,” he said softly before getting into his car.
Mira stood there long after the taillights disappeared, her heart pounding with confusion and longing.
