The next morning, when Mira stood by the antique mirror dressing up, her mobile phone buzzed with a message notification from her father. Mira's heart jolted as she read his text. ‘I’ve chosen an Alpha for you to marry. It’s time you secured your position as Luna.’ Her chest tightened. She’d disappointed him before and followed her heart, and suffered for it. She couldn’t do that again. For a moment, her thoughts delved to her moments with Finn. He wasn't only her mate but Jamie's father. Yet, she was keeping a lot of things from him and is about to marry another. She'd even slept with him twice. Mira's mind stayed consistent throughout that morning, thinking about hiding the truth just to fulfil her father's wish again. She replied to his text and went on with her day until later when she was preparing lunch. It's been five days without a word from Finn. Worry gnawed at her until she couldn’t take it anymore. She cooked his favorite meal and decided to bring it to his house. Mira pulled by the driveway of the villa, surprisingly, she was let inside by the guards and they led her to the mansion. She and Finn were business partners, there was no reason for them to hold her back. She might have come to discuss business. Mira makes her way towards the mansion’s entrance. And as she arrived, a beautiful woman, dressed to impress, stood by the doorway after she opened the door. Her aura, dark and hostile. Like she held a grudge against her even before they met. “Hi” , Mira greeted politely. “I'm a friend of Finn,” she says. “I’m Anita,” the woman said with a smirk. “Finn’s fiancée. He’s on a business trip” she says. Mira froze, the words hitting harder than she expected. Fiancée? “Oh,” she murmured, forcing a smile. “I just came to drop this off.” Anita’s eyes followed her every move as Mira placed the basket down and left, her heart sinking. Finn had never mentioned Anita , not once. Mira left without a word, not wanting to provoke Anita or cross the line. As she reached the office, she drowned herself in paperwork, anything to quiet the storm inside. Mira never thought that Finn had another woman..what the hell was she even thinking? She tries not to get him in her thoughts as she works hard on the files in front of her. At last, it was past midnight and she called home, asking Ella to watch over Jamie while she worked at the office overnight. For some days now, there's been some neglect in the works at the office but she'd turned a blind eye, trying to sort other things out before she would check them out. But tonight was the right chance to do that. Mira finishes the last paperwork and then she decides to get another file from the office library. Mira makes her way down the elevator to the first floor where the library was located. Meanwhile she gazed at the texts from her mobile phone. All from Finn, apologizing for not telling her he'd travelled for business since it was urgent. Mira didn't reply, trying to remind herself that he has a fiance and she couldn't get attached to him, not for any reason. Finn's texts kept trooping in and he seemed very worried about her not replying. Mira shuts her mobile phone off and continues her way to the library. When she got there, the electricity went off and she had to use her mobile phone for the torch. Continuing her search on the shelves. She wasn't sure in particular the documents she was searching for, but she knew exactly where to check. As she pulled out some files for reading, a loud thudding noise came from the hallway, distracting her and she immediately put the file back in place and hid. Just then, her mobile phone rang. It was Finn so she picked it up immediately, explaining her situation when she heard a gunshot. Once, twice and then continuously. She wasn't too sure if it was a thief but she panicked and Finn noticed. He immediately vows to show up. Mira hides under a shelf when she hears the growls from outside get closer. Her wolf purrs, trying to launch an attack but Mira is calculative. She doesn't know how many the attackers were. Even if she was powerful, she dares not fight without a plan. Mira holds her wolf back as the rogues come into the library. She could perceive the smell of gasoline. What the hell were they planning? She thought to herself, watching them light the place on fire and shutting the door. Mira rushes out of the shelf to escape but it was too late, they already locked the door from outside and the fire increased. She tries to locate the windows but they were bonded and locked as well. She couldn't do anything. Mira grabs her mobile phone and calls Finn but he doesn't respond. He was her only hope at this point so she didn't give up but continued calling. The fiery roof falls near her, seizing the mobile phone from her grip making her fall in fear. The mobile phone was stuck under the burning roofsheet, with the last hope inside her, Mira tried to grab it but secured a burn on her wrist, making her cry in pain. She was worn out and had inhaled a lot of smoke. Mira coughed out, the only thing she could think of was her son's well-being if she passed in the fire. Jamie would be all alone in this world, Finn didn't even know they were father and son. She had no guarantee that he'd take Jamie in. With her last strength, Mira crawls toward the door trying to get out but It was no avail. The fire had increased even more, shelves falling and blocking her path, preventing her from making a reach. Soon, a hard knock resounded from outside the door. What seemed like a knock was acting someone trying to break inside the burning room. Mira couldn't guess who it was, all she could think of was making him know she was there. She couldn't touch the door because of the heat, she just growls weakly there, pleading hard to be saved. Mira had almost passed out when the door broke open and she saw Finn rush inside. He carried her in his arms heading outside. Finn panicked the moment he heard Mira's voice on the phone, he'd sensed something was off so he came to find her. As he took her outside in his arms, he met Rowan at the doorway. “Put the fire down and find the culprits. I need names by dawn” He declared. Finn carries unconscious Mira into his car heading straight for his private penthouse at the outskirts of the city. No disturbance, he needed to be alone with her till she recovers. Seeing the burns on her skin, for a moment, he wished he could exchange situations with her. He felt her pain. Finn had a doctor care for Mira's wounds and also steady her temperature as she developed a fever shortly. He also sent some guards to watch over Jamie. That night, Finn stayed awake all through, cooking a healing herbal soup for Mira. The soup took hours in order to increase the potency, he didn't mind, he did everything just for her to get well. Around 3 a.m. the next morning while Finn checked on Mira, her breathing had steadied and she seemed to be healing. Only a few burns showed on her wrist. They must've been so severe. He was a bit worried about her living with that scar forever. Finn positioned himself behind Mira as she was still asleep. She had to drink the soup but he didn't want to wake her up yet. She needed the rest to recover. Finn stayed beside her, his eyes never leaving her beautiful face. For a moment, he felt like he'd experienced this moment before, laying beside Mira. It felt nostalgic. He felt his heart beat fastly. He knew he'd developed feelings for her but there was something else missing and he couldn't seem to place a finger on it. Finn drinks a bit from the soup but doesn't ingest it, instead, he kisses Mira, feeding her the soup through mouth. He continues until the last drop. When he was done, he felt like repeating it all again. His lips leaned closer to hers, he admired how soft, pink and succulent her lips were. He wished he wasn't drugged that night they spent together, he wished he was sober enough to explore her that night. Finn was captivated by her beauty, unable to take his eyes off. Just then, Mira coughs out , slowly becoming conscious…
