The first thing Finn felt was the sting of cold morning air brushing against his bare skin. He blinked as his vision adjusted to the dim light filtering through the car window. The realization struck hard—he was naked, tangled in the backseat of his own car, his clothes scattered across the seats. What the hell happened last night? Fragments of memory flashed, Luna Mira’s face, her scent, the heat between them, her soft pleas. His pulse spiked, and shame burned through him. The passenger door opened suddenly. “Alpha!” His Beta, Rowan, stood there, worry etched across his face. “I’ve been searching for you all night. The pack’s been restless.” Finn sat up sharply, running a hand through his hair. “Take me back to the packhouse. Now.” Rowan hesitated. “Alpha, are you—” “Now!” he barked, his voice raw with fury. The drive back was silent, the weight of realization pressing down on him. He clenched his fists. She drugged me. She must have. There was no other explanation for the heat, the haze, the way he’d lost control. By the time they arrived, Anita was waiting in the foyer, her eyes stormy. “Where were you?” she demanded. “I stayed up all night, Finn!” “I don’t owe you an explanation,” he muttered, brushing past her. “Don’t you dare walk away from me!” Finn turned sharply, his patience thinning. “Enough, Anita!” he growled, his wolf flickering beneath his skin. Her eyes glistened, but she turned away. Finn stormed into his study, slamming the door shut. “Damn her,” he hissed, pacing. “She actually stooped that low to get me into her bed…” But even as the anger surged, some memories stroked. The moonlight, the same scent from years ago, a hotel room door, laughter. He felt a sharp searing pain. Rowan entered quietly, a familiar look of concern on his face. “Alpha, I’ve called your therapist. She’s on her way.” Moments later, the therapist arrived, examining him carefully. “Your mind is trying to recall suppressed memories,” she said gently. “And it seems Luna Mira triggers that reaction.” Finn exhaled slowly. “So every time I’m near her, my head feels like it’s splitting open.” The therapist nodded. “She might be connected to what your brain is fighting to remember.” After she left, Finn straightened his collar. “I’m going to see her.” He arrived at Mira’s company like a storm. Her assistant barely had time to stand before he pushed past. “Alpha Finn, you can’t just—” “Move,” he snarled. Mira looked up from her desk, her expression instantly hardening. “Alpha Finn.” He slammed his palm on the table. “What did you do to me last night?” Her assistant froze, eyes wide. Mira gave her a subtle nod. “You may leave us.” Once they were alone, she met his furious gaze with cold calm. “You need to recall properly before throwing accusations. You were the one who came to me drugged and forced yourself on me. I only tried to help.” Finn’s jaw clenched. “Don’t twist it, Luna.” She stood, turning toward the door, but his hand shot out, grabbing her by the throat not to choke, but to stop her. “You think you can play innocent after….” The office door burst open. A small boy no older than four or five ran in, eyes blazing in gold. “Leave my mother alone!” He punched Finn’s arm with surprising strength. Finn stumbled back, stunned by both the punch and the child. His gaze flicked from the pup’s fierce expression to Mira’s horrified face. “Your… son?” he breathed. “Get out of my office,” Mira snapped, pulling the boy protectively to her side. Finn hesitated, heart pounding, a strange familiarity gnawing at him. The child’s eyes… he’d seen them before. Without another word, he turned and left. Outside, Rowan fell into step beside him. “Alpha, what now?” Finn’s jaw tightened. “Find out who spiked my drink that night,” he ordered. “I want names before sundown.” As they walked away, one thought echoed through his mind. That pup… he looked just like me. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Mira arrived home with Jamie, but her mind refused to rest. Finn’s harsh accusations echoed in her head, burning deeper than she wanted to admit. She had never been the type to dwell on emotions, yet this time, she needed to clear her name for herself, and for the truth. She called her Beta, ordering him to investigate the night in question. If Finn believed she had drugged him, then she would find the real culprit and make things right. Later that evening, her little boy tugged at her sleeve. “Mom, who’s Finn?” he asked curiously, looking up at her with wide, innocent eyes. Mira froze. For a heartbeat, her lungs forgot how to work. His next question landed like a thunderbolt. “Is he… my father?” Her heart clenched. He was but how could she tell him? Finn didn’t remember. To admit it now would make it seem as though she was trying to cling to a man who’d already pushed her away once. With a soft smile that didn’t reach her eyes, Mira changed the subject. “How was your first day at school, sweetheart?” The boy brightened instantly, launching into stories about new friends and a teacher who smelled like cookies. Mira listened, grateful for the distraction—but her thoughts still drifted to Finn.
