The next morning Saoirse found Damian laying the bed beside her. He was still clothed and sleeping on top of the blankets. She studied his sleeping face. The dark hair that fell across his brow. His plump lips that were slightly open as he snored softly. The stubble on his cheeks. In repose he appeared more like a younger man. The stress lines she had noticed around his eyes was gone. Either way she found him to be the most beautiful man she'd ever laid eyes on.
She quietly slipped out of bed and padded to the kitchen to start the coffee. She heard her phone buzz and knew she had a text. She picked it up and it was from her Da. He wished her a good morning and told her that Dominic had picked him up and they were bringing breakfast. To please put the coffee on.
She texted that it was already done, then went to the guest room to shower and dress. By the time she had slipped into her jeans and t-shirt Dominic and Donavan were in the kitchen pouring coffee into cups and setting out cream cheese and bagels.
Donavan gave her a quick hug, and Dominic pulled a chair out for her to sit. The three of them were almost finished when Damian came into the room. He dropped a kiss on the top of her head and went for the coffee.
"So? Any news yet on the identity of the guy in the Mercedes?" He took the seat next to Saoirse.
"I caught a couple guys on the police force last night as they were getting ready to head out on patrol. One of them that has given me good intel before says he thinks that he is Shaun. He's only seen him once. At a restaurant with Liam and Mavis. He didn't go over and speak to them but as he passed their table he over heard Liam call him Shaun."
"So it was his brother in law." Donavan said low.
"It would appear so." Dominic responded. "I'm starting to think that this O'Rourke was sent here to cause trouble for the family. Some how or another Ireland is sanctioning all of this, or most of it. I think they plan on making a bid on business here in Chicago and taking over."
"That won't happen! "Damian barked. "My club is mine! I no longer work in the family. Neither do you Dominic. Making a play for my club or our business won't get them very far up the food chain with the family. Yes we have ties, some affiliation, but we aren't tied to it any more. There has to be something else." He stood up and refilled his coffee cup. He leaned his hip against the counter and stared into his cup. "We are missing something here. I feel it." He moved back to the table. "I don't think he knew Saoirse saw him shoot Lena. We've managed to keep that under wraps, Liam told Silver to have Saoirse leave. Go back home, He didn't threaten her life, just to go. Now this guy has killed a stage hand, most likely the bartender was doing recon for him , and I'm sure he knew we are too observant as is Saoirse. She always checks her equipment. I think it was an attempt to scare her, maybe hurt her, but not necessarily kill her." He reached for her hand. "I think it's time we talk to your uncle."
Her green eyes widened. "You do?"
"Have you tried calling him since your first day in town?" He asked.
"Well no. I did try calling and he never answered. Da tried calling too, but nothing. I'm not sure he'll talk to me."
"We need to try. He's the man with the answers."
Donavan growled. "She ain't talking to him alone!"
"No. But it has to be done. This Shaun has become dangerous. He's killing people and has access to this club. He's managed to get under the radar here." Damian looked directly into his eyes. "Her safety is at stake. We need to know in what capacity Liam promised Saoirse to Shaun. And what he plans to do with her."
Donavan nodded. He reached for the phone. "I'll call. He'll talk to me one way or the other."
After several attempts Liam didn't answer. That made Donavan more angry. "Fine." He started for the door. "Doninic, can you take me to this store front?"
"Da! You can't just go marching in there!" Saoirse chased after her father.
"Wasn't planning to, but I can meet him on the street! Away from there and his men. Follow him then an opportunity presents it'self. I'll have Dominic to back me up girl. I'll be fine."
It took almost all day for Dominic and Donavan to spot Liam. He was leaving the storefront. It was dark and well after ten at night. He was alone and walking down the sidewalk towards a parking garage a half block away.
Donavan walked very calmly behind his brother. As he was digging his car keys out of his pocket, Donavan slammed a fist on the top of Liam's car. Causing him to jump and drop them on the garage floor. He spun around and was face to face with his brother. "Donavan!" He gasped.
"Surprised to see me brother?" Donavan asked.
"I...I am. Indeed. How did you know I'd be here?" He looked about nervously.
"Both Saoirse and I have been tryin to call you. Ever since she arrived and you ditched her!" He growled. "You runnin from family brother?"
Liam looked down at his feet. "She shouldn't have come here Donavan." He said in a low voice. "I was trying to make her go home, but now it's to late. He'd follow her there too."
Donavan scrunched his brow as he looked into his green eyes. "What are you talking about? Who would follow her?"
Liam looked around the parking garage nervously."Not here, I can't talk here." He looked up at Donavan. "I know where Saoirse works. I'll meet you there in one hour. But...I can't be seen. It's dangerous for everybody. I've been trying to control the situation, but he's obsessed! His off his nut!"
"Who?" Donavan barked.
"Shaun O'Rourke! He...he's been killing people, leaving bodies all over town. I tried talking to his father, but really Donavan. I can't say anymore here. We could be seen . I'll be at the club in one hour." He scuddled into his car and left.
Donavan stood looking after him and scratched the back of his head. Dominic approached him.
"Well that was a strange conversation." Dominic remarked.
"Aye, it was." Donavan shook his head. "You hear everything?"
"Most of it. You trust him?"
"Not as far as I can throw a stone." He squinted his eyes in thought. "let's go back to the club and wait. We know where to find him now if he doesn't show, and we know what he drives."
Dominic called Damian on the way back. Explained what happened. Said that they were to expect Liam in an hour and to make sure security knew and let him in.
