My mouth gaped and eyes widened in surprise at the astonishing decorations when we arrived at the dinner night.
To my greatest surprise, My baby pictures were plastered everywhere.
There was also a large standing photo frame of me and Greg from our college school days feeding each other popsicles in the school canteen. Lady Desire, the cafeteria staff, took a picture of us then. There was this sudden rush of nostalgia that gushed inside of me.
“This is unbelievable, I wasn't expecting all of these.” I said, my palms covering my mouth in excitement. He proceeded to plant a kiss on cheek with a smile. Which I reciprocated.
“You are my world…Don't forget that” he replied.
Dazzling in auburn long dress, matching my auburn lipstick. My hair was on fleek with a mini off white clutch purse.
Greg gestures to pull out a chair for me to sit; I sat on it majestically. I tossed my clutch purse on the table while he took his seat adjusting closer to the table afterwards.
The table in front of me reeks of lush and posh at the same time. Colourful and matching our outfit as a surprise. The candlelit table gleamed with fine Chinese and ceramic crystal glasses.
The aesthetic of this event was rare and one I've never seen in my entire life.
The man in front of me winked and smiled at me once again and asked, “Sweetheart, do you love it?” raising his brows. I caught a glimpse of the fine line on his forehead.
“This is breathtaking, and you know how to surprise me.” I replied. My cheek has already started to flush pink since the beginning of occasion, so it was a never ending of me smiling ear to ear at this moment.
We both unfolded the napkin gently on our thigh simultaneously.
“The one who makes the world stops for me” he teased.
“You can say that again,” I said.
“If you lived on a thousand hills, I wouldn't faint climbing one to see you.” He continued showering me with soft words to move my feet.
“This one is maybe weak.. try again later” I insisted.
He paused for a second, trying to get words into his head.
“I'm waiting,” I said out of curiosity. Holding my jaw in my palms while staring at him seductively; my elbow touching the table.
Things like this soothes my heart as a woman who hasn't been shown love for a long time.
“The missing piece I never knew I needed” he said cheekily
Smiles played across my face with a small amount of tears secured in my eyes waiting to rush down my face.
Greg passed me the tissue to dabble my tears.. my voice was breaking yet inaudible to say a little word of gratitude.
“I love you Greg” I replied. My voice barely above a whisper. I found composure within minutes to acknowledge his words. In my little time whilst I was married to Colin, he had never said kind words to me. Greg has made me feel like I'm worthy of love again.
“You should save your tears for midnight because you are going to need it when you can't handle my touch .” he said erotically in his baritone voice.
“Depends on how hard you can drive me crazy” I said with so much confidence. Can't wait for this to happen. I needed it so bad.
“Badgirl,” he said. His voice is low and husky.
“You made me so.” I grinned cheerfully.
The Stewardess approached our table dressed in a crisped white attire.
“Good Evening, dearest guest, welcome” her voice came, shutting down our naughty discussion.
“Let me introduce to you our customised menu. Which features the finest Spicy Buttered Seafood, Marinated Turkey” She pointed to the left. “With Stew Pasta, Roasted Potatoes and lastly, curry stew” She pointed to the right.
I caught Greg looking at her lustfully before he focused on me. Not knowing that I caught him red handed.
“Alongside Japanese veggies which are good for women's health. Feer…te….lity.” Her pronunciation was poor but I understood what she was saying. Her voice was thinner than before when she started the introduction.
“They look delicious” I complimented.
“Thank you” she replied “Can I serve you ma'am” she asked.
“Yeah..sure”
Greg sat there silent all through the meal introduction.
“Most excitingly, these meal were made by the award winning celebrity Chef here in Asia. Aigo Jueng Lee, Honeymoon dish.” She said after she finished dishing the meal.
She served with finesse all through the course of serving us.
“Thank you! ” He complimented her. His eyes crinkled in all corners.
My teeth sank in the crunchy fried prawn; the buttery juice of the prawn burst inside my mouth releasing a flavour and river of gooey goodness.. I could only think of my grandmother's culinary skills which sent us to wonderland any time she was in the kitchen.
She made something like this in the ‘ole’ days while in Grade iv for me and my sisters. Abigail and Laurette.
“It's worth the hype…don't you think so?” He asked. “There's a lot of perfection put into work to achieve this kind of taste” he acknowledged.
“I can't take any score away from this cuisine right here. What the heck!” Swinging my head sideways in enjoyment.
“You should try this…it tastes heaven, Denise.” He stretched his hand from a distance. Burying the fork into the grilled potatoes and dunking it into the spicy curry stew.
Grabbing all of it gently with my teeth. Hummed towards its satisfaction and nodded my head to every inch of sweetness.
“Delicious init?” he asked. Relaxing his back against his seat.
“This is wonderful. I think we should do this honeymoon again. I might just get addicted to this kind of treatment” I replied with my mouth a little bit full.
“After the Dinner, we should rate them. They tick all the boxes” I suggested.
“Absolutely.” He obliged.
With my mouth full of potatoes, one could tell I'm a foodie. Who cares? I've got a big run ahead of me. So I need to get every nutrition that I need to forge ahead. I slowed down abit. Wiping either side of my mouth.
“Why did you stop eating is there anything you want to tell me” he asked.
“What do you think about me picking Abigail as my PA?” I asked not wanting to take him unaware of who I bring alongside our family business.
“I have little or no say in matters that concern your family, Denise. I believe in your judgement.” He replied.
“You don't feel anything bad about picking a family member to do so?” I continued to ask.
“Anyone could be a traitor or betrayal dear. It is necessary that you pick your demons. Hopefully you know how to handle her personality. You are much older and sensible and stronger than you think. Look how you overcome them by getting married to me after the swift divorce with your ex-husband.” He added.
Abigail and I have been in contact for a few days now. Though, when I visited home, her and Laurette weren't happy with my decision to marry Greg as Mom had told them everything that was going on at the hospital. They have this special love they all invested in Colin.
Colin made it seem to everyone that I was taken care off and ungrateful for everything he has done for my family. He elevated my family to mini riches. My sisters were happy not to eat garbage anymore after my father passed. Though, we had little as at that time.
He placed them on an allowance. I paid for everything with my life. I sacrificed my emotions for them so they could enjoy themselves.
“With time I believe we'd adjust right?” I asked.
“Sure” he took a bite from the fried crunchy prawn and dragged a sip of the champagne.
Whilst I dragged a sip of my champagne, my mind flashed back at Lady Jennie, all those words she said about Greg. Lost in my thoughts whilst sipping the champagne continously, Hubby noticed something was going through my mind. He became concerned.
“You look like your mind travelled a few seconds ago…” he said.
“Yes of course dear…”
“About what? Could you share?”
“Have you met my father before? have you had any close contact with him before he died?” I asked sorrowfully.
“I'm not sure of that, Denise.”
“I recently got a call from Colin a few days ago telling me you had something to do with his murder” I stuttered. Greg smirked in amusement.
“What!” He dropped his cutlery. “And you believed him?” He scolded.
“Of Course not….Also, Lady Jennie said something related about how Mr Salvador saved her from boat cruise trafficking. How did you get to know him? Mr Salvador, does he have a connection with people who mutilate humans?” I continued to ask him questions to free my mind.
“Wow! These questions are so heavy. Look Denise, whatever he does is none of my business he is my co-investor in one of the companies in Taiwan so I barely know his in and out”
Greg already looked pissed. My questions seem to make him uncomfortable at the moment…he checked his watch.
“It's late Denise, I think we should go home. You ruined this dinner already.” He said on his feet.
“Sorry my love. I needed to get this off my chest.” I stuttered in pretence. Pleading so I could control his anger.
“Oh no honey!.. it's nothing to worry about. Maybe we could talk better in the hotel.” He suggested.
How could this question unsettle him like the allegations are true. If actually he has a hand in my father's demise I'd make him pay. I said under my breath. I must find a way to make him say something.
