POV The Queen
When the first bomb went off it was as if nothing had happened at first. My driver was outside my office ready to drive me to our family country estate. It had been in my husbands family for generations and I truly loved being there. I said goodbye to a few of my colleagues and thanked them for the lovely gift basket they had given me for my birthday. The receptionist said she had heard a lot of fire works going off outside. Which was strange because we were in the centre of town and it was daylight outside. She said that she heard some dogs barking and howling and she commented about how selfish some people were and that she had pets at home that were terrified of fire works. I agreed with her because I absolutely loved my horses and I knew how easily spooked they were from loud noises. This was just another reason for me to get out of the city and back to my quiet place. Although it wasn’t going to be quiet that weekend because I had a few of my friends coming to stay with me because it was my birthday. I made my way outside of my office and everything seemed normal. My driver Richard was standing out side the car holding the door open for me as usual. He greeted me with a huge smile and he looked me up and down as I walked towards him. Richard was young and handsome and around the same age as me but I can honestly say that although he had worked for us for many years I didn’t know a lot about him. We would just talk about the weather or if he was going on holiday. I didn’t even know where he lived and although I didn’t know him that well I knew that he wasn’t himself as soon as I seen him. “Hi, how are you?” I asked wondering what on earth had gotten into him and he looked me up and down again with a flirty look on his face. I was a little uneasy about the way Richard was staring at me but it also gave me a thrill because my husband hadn’t stared at me like that in years. I was a little flustered and that’s when I noticed that he was staring at my chest and smiling. What on earth was wrong with him? He opened the door wider for me to get in and in the distance I heard a woman scream. I was startled and I looked around to see what was going on. I looked at Richard and he was staring at my ass but I didn’t take any notice of him because I wanted to get out of the city and back to Sutton manor as soon as I could. I put the huge gift basket into the back seat and got in beside it. Richard let himself into the front and started to drive through the streets. The traffic was busy as it always was at that time on a Friday afternoon. I opened my phone to lots of text from my friends. It was my birthday weekend and they had organized to fly into Ireland to stay with me in Sutton Manor for a few days and I was over the moon that I was going to spend time with them. I was especially happy that my husband wasn’t going to be there. This group of woman had been my friends since our days competing against each other in beauty pageants and they were my rock when I lost my children. They had text to say they were at Sutton Manor waiting for me and that we were going to have a great weekend and I was thankful that I wasn’t going to be there on my own. I text them all back and I noticed that I had a text from my husband. It said ‘I can’t believe that you’re still going away for your birthday, you selfish cow. I hope you and your b***h friends have a great time in MY family home’ I just rolled my eyes. He loved to remind me that Sutton Manor belonged to him and it was probably part of the reason I stayed with him. I had spent all of my childhood school holidays there with my grandmother because she was the family cook and when my mother died when I was 14 I left Glasgow and I went to stay at Sutton Manor with my grandmother full time. It was the place I went to heal from the trauma of losing my mother and then from losing my children. I text my husband back that I f*****g hate him and put my phone down for a moment. I stared out of the window and noticed that the roads were a lot clearer than usual and I decided to close my eyes for a few minutes. I was exhausted by my husband and I knew that my friends hated him just as much as I did and that I was in for a weekend of questioning from them. My eyes were closed when suddenly I felt a hand on my knee. I opened my eyes with a startle. Richard was driving and looking at me in the rear view mirror “are you ok Lady Sutton?” He asked and I noticed that his eyes were blood shot. He had his hand on my knee and his other hand on the steering wheel. “Richard please keep your attention on the road. And get your hand off my knee.” I snapped and he let out a laugh and I wondered what the hell had got into him. We were approaching a round about when I looked out of the window and noticed that there was a woman running along the road with a man chasing her. Her blouse was ripped open and she was screaming for help. It was like something out of a horror movie. “Richard stop the car” I screeched and he pulled over. I tried to get out to help her but the child locks were on. “Richard can you let me out. We have to help that woman” I was desperately trying to open the doors but to my surprise he just stared at me in the rear view mirror and started to undo his trousers. I was in shock he turned to me with a smirk “I’ve wanted you for a long time Lady Sutton” he said and he grabbed my arm and dragged me into the front seat of the car. His huge erection was out and although Richard was an attractive man this was unprovoked and unwanted. Then he grabbed the back of my head and tried to force me down on him. I had never experienced anything like this before and I had never felt unsafe around Richard but I knew I had to get myself out of this awful situation. I grabbed him by the balls and I squeezed as hard as I could until he was screaming in agony. He let go of my head and I quickly got out of the car on the side of the country road. I was relieved that I was out of the car but I still wasn’t out of danger. We were in the middle of no where and my phone was on the back seat of the car. I opened the back door and grabbed my phone and tried to call the police but there was no answer. There was no answer from the emergency services. What the hell was going on? And thats when I really started to panic. Then Richard got out of the car and he stood in front of me and he was taking deep breaths as he came towards me. I backed away and then he threw his head back and he started to howl. Then in the distance I could hear more howling. His eyes were blood shot and he looked furious “take off your dress” he growled and I was in shock and I couldn’t speak, I just shook my head. “Then I’m going to rip it off you, this is going to be fun” he said with a wicked smile and that’s when I finally pulled myself together and I kicked him square in the nuts. Years of physically fighting with my husband had hardened me and I wasn’t about to take this kind of abuse from this little prick. He fell to his knees and I kicked him in the face and he was unconscious. I looked around as if to ask someone what was happening when I remembered I was in the middle of no where with no one around. I got into the driving seat and locked the doors and I thanked god that the keys were still in the ignition when suddenly I remembered the poor woman that was being chased by the road. I quickly turned the car back along the road in search of her. When I got back to the round about the man that was chasing her had her pinned to a tree with his trousers at his ankles. She was screaming for help and he was howling just like Richard. I stoped the car and grabbed a bottle of champagne from the birthday gift basket from work and got out of the car. As I did the man stoped and sniffed the air and turned to face me. His eyes were blood shot and he stared to howl again. The woman was pulling up her trousers and she was crying and I couldn’t believe what was happening. I was so angry that I ran towards him and hit him over the head with the champagne bottle and it smashed. He was on the ground in agony and I started to kick him over and over again until I was exhausted. Years of fighting with my husband had been awful but I always stuck up for myself and the truth was that we knew when to hold back and not to really hurt each other. But I wasn’t holding back with this man because of what he was doing. I helped the woman into my car and we drove away in silence for a while. I think that we were both in shock. We passed a car that had smashed into a tree and there was a man on the roof of the car with his head threw back howling up to the sky. He sniffed the air and jumped off the car and started to run after us but there was no way he could catch up to us. “Are you ok?” I asked and she shook her head. She was still crying and I could feel myself getting emotional because she was clearly traumatised “What’s your name?” I asked because I was trying to distract her. “I’m Linda, thank you for saving me” “what is going on Linda?” She shrugged her shoulders “I have no idea, I had a flat tire and that man stopped his car to help me. He was normal one minute and the next minute he attacked me. He ripped at my clothes…” she was upset and I knew what he had done to her. “I’m sorry that I couldn’t get to you sooner, my driver stoped the car but he was howling like that too and I had to fight him off” I was driving fast and I decided to slow down because I was upset and the last thing we needed was a car accident. Thats when I seen a woman hiding behind a tree by the side of the road and I stoped the car. She was crying and she looked terrified. I got out of the car and slowly approached her “are you ok? Do you want to come with us. You’re not safe out here” she ran towards me and threw her arms around me “my husband was driving and then he went crazy” she said in between sobs” “come with us, we need to stick together. What’s your name?” I asked as I opened the back door to my car. “I’m Helen” she said “what is happening?” she asked through her tears “I don’t know, let’s put on the radio and see if there’s anything on there” I said as I put on the radio and every station was silent then Linda got out her phone and tried to call the police but she said there was no connection. “I’m scared” she said as it started to get dark. “don’t worry, my house is nearby. We will be safe there. I just hope my friends are ok”
