POV The Queen We made our way to my house and up the huge drive way. Helen was in the back seat and said “is this Sutton Manor? This place is so grand. Do you live here?” I nodded my head “Yes I’m Lady Sutton” I said and she gasped “it’s lovely to meet you Lady Sutton” I let out a laugh “please call me Queenie, all my friends do” I stopped the car as close as I could to the house. I helped Linda out and opened the door for Helen. We went up the front stairs and I was surprised that the front door was locked. I shouted for help and my friend Cherry opened the door and hugged me and dragged all three of us inside and bolted the door behind us. “Cherry what is going on?” I asked as she was wiping the tears from her face “some kind of chemical bomb went off and the whole world had gone to s**t. It was on the news before the channels went off. It’s effecting men. They’re attacking woman. The news said we have to stay inside to protect ourselves” I couldn’t take in what she was saying. “There’s lots of food and water and we have a generator for lights. We are all going to be fine” I said and Cherry still looked terrified. “Where are the rest of the girls?” I asked “Dawn is making tea and chain smoking, Lorry is upstairs closing all the windows and Rachel is in the bathroom crying and pretending she’s ok.” I invited Linda and Helen into the living room to make them more comfortable “I’m glad you’re all safe but we need to stay together, there are men that work here in the manor.” Cherry nodded her head and I wondered what she was going to say. “What’s happened?” I asked and she took a deep breath “we all arrived together, just as the bomb went off, we didn’t know what was happening. We managed to lock three of the men in the dinning room but they are going crazy in there. We can hear them banging on the walls and howling. And there’s something else…” my heart sank. “Zara was up stairs with one of the men, he had helped her with her suit case to her room. He went insane and he tried to r**e her and she managed to fight him off but he’s in a bad way. We can’t get an ambulance, there’s no answer. What should we do?” She asked with tears in her eyes. “Where is she?” I asked calmly but I needed to see her, I needed to know that she was safe. My heart was thumping out of my chest but I knew I had to remain calm for the sake of my friends. It was my house and they were looking to me for answers. I ran up the man staircase two at a time to get to her and she was sitting in my bedroom with her back to the door in the dark. I walked in and she stood up and ran towards me “thank god your here, the men, the men have lost their minds. That old man, the gardener he pinned me down..I hit him, I think he’s dead” I could hear the fear in her voice. The gardener William had worked at Sutton Manor since he was a teenager and he was such a lovely man. He had been so fond of my grandmother before she died and he had always been extremely kind to me even before I married my husband and became Lady Sutton. I hated to think that he was hurt and I wanted to help him. “Where is he?” I asked “He’s in the bedroom at the end of the hall” I straightened myself up and made my way towards the bedroom door. I looked along the long corridor at Zara and she was still crying and I was heart broken for her. I opened the door and he was no where to be seen. I looked around when all of a sudden he ran out of the en-suite bathroom and his face was covered in blood. He looked furious and he was howling at the top of his lungs. This was not the man I knew. This bomb had changed this once lovely gentleman into an animal and I knew that I had to protect myself and my friends. I grabbed a near by lamp and hit him over the head and he slumped to the floor. After a few seconds I managed to catch my breath and I checked his pulse and he was dead. But I didn’t feel immediate guilt for what I had done. He had been a good man but now he had changed into something else and I knew it was him or me. I looked at Zara, she was standing in the doorway and she wasn’t in any way shocked at what I had done. That day the world as we knew it had changed forever… and so had I.
