JOANA LOSES HER JOB

It is a lovely morning, Joana rises from her bed after the alarm has rang for her to prepare for work. Joana leaves her apartment and heads for work. She was overjoyed on the first day of her official work in the Peony fashion enterprise.

“I called you yesterday you did not pick up my calls. I wanted to see you badly at the launch of our new Eyeglasses collection and you did not come”, says a lady who seems like a puppy begging for attention for a pat from its owner.

“You were not deaf when I told you that I had some official things to do and I can not be wasting my time on irrelevant things “, James says with a mean tone.

“I would have wanted you to come for at least twenty minutes of the event. It was just a five hours event “, she says like someone begging to be alone.

“Layla, I told you that I can’t spare my purposeful time on something that is not official “, James says.

“Owwww!Really?”If I may ask what the official thing you spent your time doing was what…..?”, Layla asks.

“I was reading a novel, which was a reasonable thing. Are you happy now that I have answered your question?”, James replies to her.

“Why do you treat me this way, James? Am I not pretty enough? Many guys want to be with me but I turn them down and you don’t even look at me and tell me sweet things. It is like I beg to get your attention and anytime I try to get your attention, you turn them away. You are always mean to me. Is it that I am not pretty enough ?“, Layla queries him with a teary voice.

“The thing is that you make me inconvenient at all times. Can you please leave me alone?”, James says.

“But do you realize I am your fiancée?”, Layla questions.

“I will call you back later, Layla”, James says as he hangs up on Layla.

“Hello, Hello, Hel….O, He…, He….”.What!James is such a jerk! How could he?”, Layla squirms.

“Miss Layla, Miss Layla”, Briana shouts trying to call Layla.

“What is it?”, she asks aggressively with a frown on her face.

“Thank goodness, I have been looking for you”, says Briana.

“The director is not around and we don’t know when he will be back. There are more works and some contracts he had to sign. I guess something urgent came up and we also need you to attend to some files”, Briana continues.

“Do you have any idea of where my brother could be by chance ?“, Layla asks.

“I don’t just know why Clinton just likes to disappear anytime and anywhere he likes”, Layla continues.

“Joana had just resumed work. Luckily, she came early. Before she had come to work she passed by a coffee shop, where she buys the coffee latte she had held in her hand. As she holds the coffee in her hands while heading to the factory room to start her work for the day, Layla starts again with her pompous drama

“Miss Layla, you would have to be present to fill out some forms and attend some business meetings by 2 p.m. today. Oh, and again, the chairman will also be part of your schedule today. He asked for you to come home to tell him about the task you have performed in the Social Communication Unit”; Rachael, Layla’s Personal Assistant informs her without pausing before Layla cuts her off.

“Rachael!”, Layla shouts.

“Can you just keep your lousy mouth shut?”.As you can see I am not in a good mood”, Layla orders.

Joana was heading towards the staircase where Layla, Racheal, and other workers in the company were.

“But Ma’am, this form ought to be filled before 4 p.m today. I have been telling you about this form since two weeks ago, but you have been postponing it”.Rachael tries to persuade her boss to be serious about the Seventy million dollars that the company may lose without her filling out the forms.

“Here it is ma’am, please fill it”, she points the form towards her. Layla hits Racheal’s hands which makes her fling the paper.

“You this Urchin, Which part of “I am not in a good mood “, do you not understand ”, Layla says as she demonstrates with her two index and middle fingers raised together in the air. Unfortunately at that point, Joana was heading towards the factory room with her coffee in her hands. After Layla flings Racheal’s hand, she tries to poke Racheal in the face, she then mistakenly hits Joana which makes the coffee in her hands spill on Layla’s dress.

“Argh! What the f^ck is this?”, Layla screams.

“Oh my God! I am so sorry. It is not intentional. It is a mistake “, Joana apologizes.

“You piece of sh#t!Are you blind? How dare you ruin my dress?” Layla says as she speaks to Joana harshly.

“I said it was a mistake and it was not intentional. By the way, you were the one that hit me”, Joana says in a pleading way combined with a voice of annoyance.

Layla laughs sarcastically in anger.

“Ah-ah-ah-ah, b***h”, Layla says as she slaps Joana.

“How can a low-life like you be able to afford my dress”, Layla says as she raises her voice.

“Your salary of two years can not pay for this dress that you just ruined. You wretched piece of trash”, Layla says to Joana.

Joana could no longer endure the harsh words which was said to her and the way she was hit which made her raise her right hand and slap Layla.

“How dare you speak to me in that manner?”, Joana questions with a frown on her face. Mouths were opened when Layla was slapped. Layla’s workers stood there standing there looking with amazement.

“Argh…..!!! Who is this monster? “, Layla screams as she whimpers to tears like that of a spoilt brat.

“Fire her! I want her out of this company “, Layla says while shouting. Suddenly, Briana comes in with other officials in the company.

“What’s going on here”, Briana asked

“This raggedy ass piece of trash hit me. Fire her this instance!”, she orders.

The officials look in surprise. Briana orders the security. And this is how Joana loses her job on the first day of working in the company. Joana tries to explain that it was Layla who had hit her first. But she could not because no one wanted to hear her side of the story.

When she looked at the atmosphere everywhere, it looked like the arrogant woman who had hit her was a person in a big position.

“I can explain, uh-uh “, Joana tries to explain.

“Security, please do your job “, Briana tells the Security officials softly with disappointment on her face.

“Uhmmm, Miss Angelou you have been fired from this job. We would not be needing your services any longer.”

The security guards drag Joana away from the company. Joana could not believe her own eyes at that moment.

“Could this be a dream?”, Joana says as she questions herself.

“Why does it seem like the universe is turning its back on me? What have I done wrong?”, she continues to wonder within herself. She orders an Uber to drive her back home. As she enters the car, she begins to cry uncontrollably without being ashamed that the driver would see her.

She gets home and just lays on her bed where she calls on her friend; Phoebe. She dials her phone as Phoebe picks up the phone.

“What’s up, Anna? How is work? Shouldn’t you be busy with work right now “, Phoebe says greeting Joana.

“Phoebe”, Joana says with a loud cry and sobbing.

“What’s wrong? What is it? Is it still about Claudius “, Phoebe asks Joana with fear and worry.

“I just got fired from work “, Joana replies to Phoebe.

“Wait, What?”, Phoebe screams.

“Is this some sort of prank or what? How did it happen?”Phoebe asks with fear.

Joana goes ahead and explains everything to her just as everything had happened to her. Phoebe was left speechless and could not believe what had happened to her. Phoebe tries her best to console her, but Joana does not have it and refuses to be consoled and comforted.
