Chapter 11: The Unexpected Visitor Alexander stood in the living room, staring at his phone. The call had ended, but the voice still echoed in his mind. “You really don't remember me?” He knew exactly who it was. Daniel. Someone from his past who had disappeared years ago. And now he was back. Alexander looked toward the staircase. Rose had already gone upstairs. He couldn't let her get involved. Not yet. The next morning, Rose walked into the kitchen and found Alexander already there. “You're awake early,” she said. “I didn't sleep much.” Rose noticed the tired look on his face. “Is something wrong?” “No.” She gave him a suspicious look. “You're terrible at lying.” Alexander almost smiled. “I'm learning.” “From who?” “You.” Rose laughed. Before she could say anything else, the doorbell rang. Alexander's expression immediately changed. Rose noticed. “Are you expecting someone?” “No.” He walked toward the door. When he opened it, a tall man stood outside. Alexander stopped abruptly The man's eyes moved past him and landed on Rose. “So this is her.” Rose stopped “Who are you?” The man smiled. “Daniel.” Alexander stepped in front of Rose. “What are you doing here?” Daniel's smile disappeared. “We need to talk.” “You shouldn't have come.” “I had no choice.” Rose looked between them. “Alexander, what's going on?” Alexander didn't answer. Daniel looked at Rose. “You should ask your husband what happened three years ago.” Rose's eyes widened. “My husband?” Alexander's voice became firm. “Daniel, leave.” Daniel shook his head. “Not until she knows the truth.” Rose stepped forward. “What truth?” Alexander turned toward her. “Rose, go upstairs.” “No.” He looked surprised. “I think I deserve an explanation.” Daniel smiled slightly. “She definitely does.” Alexander glared at him. “Enough.” Daniel took a step back. “I'll give you one day.” He looked at Rose. “Then I'll tell her everything.” He turned and walked away. Alexander closed the door. Rose stood silently behind him. Then she asked the question he had been hoping to avoid. “Alexander…” He turned. “What happened three years ago?” Alexander looked at her. For the first time since they met, he didn't have an answer. And Rose realized something te rrifying. The man she had agreed to marry had a past he had never told her about.
