Chapter four: The secret
Amelia couldn't take her eye off on victor.
“What do you know about my father?”
Victor straightened his jacket.
“I told you.Nothing”
“That isn't true “
The room became silent.
Alexander stepped forward.
“Uncle victor what happened between you and Amelia’s father?”
Victor’s eyes moved toward Alexander.
“Something are better Left in the past”
Amelia’s voice shook.
“Not when my family is involved “
Victor looked at her again.
“You shouldn't be here “.
Alexander’s expression darkened.
“She is my fiancee”
Victor gave a quiet laugh.
“Is she?”
Amelia frowned.
“What is that supposed to mean?”
Before victor could answer, Alexander interrupted.
“That's enough”
He took Amelia's hand and led her towards the hallway.
“Wait victor called after them.
Alexander stopped.
Victor voice became serious.
“You don't know what you're doing “
Alexander turned slowly.
“Then tell me “
Victor said nothing.
Alexander stared at him for a moment before continuing upstairs
Once they reached for hallway, Amelia pulled her hand away.
“You knew “
That my father knew your family”
He remained silent.
“You knew before you asked me to marry you.
Alexander didn't answer.
Amelia eyes filled with suspicion.
“Why did you choose me?”
Alexander looked away
“I can't tell you yet”
“Yet?”
He finally face her.
“There are things I need to protect you from”
I don't need protection, I need the truth “
Alexander expression softened for the first time.
“You'll get it”
“When?”
“When it is safe “
Amelia shook he head .
“This marriage is already beginning to feel like a trap”
“Then what is it “
He hesitated .
“A second chance.”
Amelia stared at ask what he meant,
Alexander phone rang.
He answered.
His expression changed immediately.
“What?”
He listened silently.
Then his eyes moved toward Amelia.
“I’ll be there”
He ended the call.
“What happened?”she asked.
Alexander picked up his coat.
“Your house”
Amelia's heart dropped.
“What about my house ?”
There was a break in
She stopped
“Is my family okay?”
They’re safe “.
Relief rushed through her.
“But some one lefta message “
“What message?”
Alexander looked at her seriously.
“They know you're marring me”
“Who?”
Alexander opened the door.
“I don't know”
Then he added quietly.
“But I think they know the secret about our family”
Amelia followed him.
For the first time, she realized this wasn't just a marriage contract.
Someone had been waiting for her to enter Alexander’s life.
And they had just made their first move.
