Chapter five: the warning The drive to Amelia’s house felt endless. She sat beside Alexander in silence, staring through the window. My family is safe?”she asked again. “Yes “ “And you're sure?” “I’m sure “ Amelia nodded,but the wrong in her chest refused to disappear. When they arrived, police officer were standing outside the house. Amelia rushed toward the entrance. “Mom” Her mother came out immediately and pulled her into a hug. “We’re okay” Amelia closed her eyes in relief. ”Thank God” Then she noticed the broken lock on the front door. Her expression changed. “What happened?” Her mother looked toward Alexander “He said he would explain” Amelia turned. Alexander walked inside. The house looked exactly as she remembered it, except for the drawers that had been opened and the papers Scattered across the floor. “What were they looking for”Amelia asked. The police officer shook his head. “We're not sure” Alexander crouched beside one of the drawers. “There's something missing” “What?” He picked up an empty envelope. “This” He picked up an empty envelope. Amelia stared at it. “That was my father's” Alexander looked at her. “I don't know. my mother kept it locked away “ Her mother suddenly became nervous. “Amelia's” What?” her mother hesitated. “You father left something for you “. Amelia's heart began beating faster. “What did he leave?” Her mother walked towards a cabinet and slowly opened it. From behind a stack of old books.she pulled out a small wooden box. “This belonged to your father” Amelia reached for it. But before she could open it, Alexander stopped her. “What “ She looked at him. “Why?” “Because who ever broke into this house may have been looking for that “ Amelia stared at the box. “What could possibly be inside? Alexander didn't answer. Her mother finally spoke. “Your father told me never to open it unless you were in danger “ Amelia's hands trembled. “I think “I’m already in danger “ She opened the box Inside was an old photography. Amelia picked it up. Her father stood beside two men. One was victor king. The other was a much younger Alexander. Amelia’s breath caught. “Why were they together?” Alexander stared at the photography. His face had gone completely pale. “I’ve never seen this” Amelia turned toward him. “You’re lying.” “No” He looked at the back of the photography. There was a handwritten message. Alexander read it silently. Then his expression changed. “What does it say?”Amelia asked. He hesitated. Finally,he handed the photography to her. Amelia read the words. When the time comes, protect my daughter from the king’s family. She looked up at Alexander. Neither of them spoke. Then her phone suddenly rang. Unknown number. Amelia answer. “Hello?” A distorted voice spoke. “Leave Alexander king before it's too late “ The call ended. Amelia slowly lowered the phone. Alexander stared at her “Who was it?” “I don't know” He stepped closer . “What did they say” Amelia looked into his eyes. “They told me to leave you” Alexander expression hardened. “And what are you going to do? Amelia looked at the photography again. “I think - - - She took a breath. “I want to know the truth first “ Outside the house a car pulled away from the curb. Someone had been watching them. And they weren't finished yet.
