THE MATING RITUAL

1319 Words
As she took each step towards the huge arc-shaped opening through which the light from outside shone into the luxurious interior of the fortress, Alindra's heart raced in worry. The noise of the dragons awaiting her appearance in the bailing below only served to remind her that today, all of them could be dead. And so by her hands. Her golden eyes flashed coldly and bright golden light covered her being Swoosh! As the light receded, Alindra's figure had disappeared from the scene. Just as the place which Alina had just stood, the whole of the crowd outside were the same as there gaze became fixated on a sole figure that suddenly appeared in the sky. The bright golden light of her presence shone upon the whole of the bailing as if to declare her arrival at the scene. Swoop! Swoop! Beautiful! Was the only word that could be used to describe the phenomenon above. Her whole dragon figure was a shade of white and bright gold that mixed perfectly. The edges of her feathered wings, and tails were golden and her horns that were like spiky crowns were of the same color of bright gold just as her reptilian eyes. Every other features of hers was feathery white in color. All mouths were left agape as she hovered and aviated the sky in a gracious swoop of her appealing wings. Only the sound of her wings slapping the wind which was like a soothing music to the ears of all those present could be heard. "Marvelous!" "Amazing" The males and even the females present found themselves gawking at the eldest Princess' dance in the sky. The essence of this step of the mating ritual was to entice the males which if strong enough could invoke the innate desire of any male, making them approach the female with their highest male instinct in control. It was believed that a potential mate is best chosen in his show of basic instinct. Male dragons grow stronger by their instinct and females tend to chose the strongest male as their suitor. The possibility of a common female enticing a really powerful dragon was rare as a male dragon's only reacted to whom their instincts finds appealing. Except for a male dragon who has other motives in mind. Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh! However, at this moment, the eldest dragon princess was beyond attractive to all males present. Setting apart her great potential as a divine light dragon, her beauty simply broke the scale of enticement. Hordes of male dragons took ascent to approach the princess and woo her, only their instincts led them at this point. Only those whom were mated were able to resist their urge. Swoosh! The dragon lords were alerted where they sat when they heard the sound of something swiftly motioning but relaxed realizing what had happened. Most of them had a bitter smile on their face as they seemed to quite understand Lord Dracul's unfortunate condition. The unmatched single house lord must have been noticed by the Princess' sky dance and probably, his instinct had taken control over him. Even they themselves could only watch like this without acting only because they already had mates. Astarot who had plans to swoop the dragons present clean of their prized possession presently had the chance to do so as everyone was awestruck by the Princess' enticing dance in the sky. However, the orphan thief was unable to utilize his plan his his gaze was fixated on the white with golden detailed dragon that danced alluringly through the sky. The white of his eyes turned dirty yellow and his blood red pupils dilated and constricted severally until it finally turned reptilian. A white and golden gem reflected in the eyes of the dragon thief. Unlike the dragon lords, King Choryrth frowned seeing the swift purple dragon that approached Alindra in the sky. He watched with irritation in his eyes as one of the dragon house lords, lord Dracul, easily outclassed the other male dragons that soared the sky towards Alindra. However, he donned his neutral gaze once again remembering that the dragon lord stood no chance against an ancient and that there was no call for alarm just yet. Despite the fact that Alindra might not be able to entice an ancient. In the event that Alindra fails to summon an ancient happens, then King Choryrth might be digging his own grave faster than he thinks as the most suitable mate for Alindra would be the dragon lord. He was the strongest amongst all of Alindra's suitors currently afterall. However, the dragon king was at peace, his belief that Alindra would manage to summon an ancient or at least, a worthy mate was unshaken. Alindra was seemingly unperturbed by the dragons that followed after her from below, she continued to soar higher and higher into the sky as if they were merely playing catch. She suddenly stopped when she reached a high enough altitude and swiftly turned to face the flock that approached from beneath. She spread her wings wide, covering the two Suns in the sky and flapped her wings in quick succession. Causing the clouds in the sky to sweep away from view. She was mighty magnificent in her appearance at the moment. However, the animosity within her gaze could be easily sensed even from a while away. Alindra had no hope of getting mated any time soon, and she knew not of the reason why her father who had been previously indifferent about her marital status suddenly had all his interest in this matter to the extent that he even imposed that she perform this mating ritual. She couldn't disobey her father, she had never done that before. Unwilling as she is regarding this matter, she couldn't do anything but to make the males that attempted to mate her, bear her anger and frustration. And that exactly she was about to do. There was no rule stopping her from testing her potential mate afterall. Moreso, if there isn't any male left amidst these suitors, then her mating ceremony would be further postponed once again, at least until she was ready as she could give the excuse that she'd found someone to buy herself more time. 'And I'm looking forward to make that happen, at any cost!' Alindra resolved and readied to launch an attack at the male dragons below. Although she knew she might not possess the ability to subdue every of the male dragons that wanted to court her this moment as their might be powerful dragons hidden amidst them, it wasn't as though she had any option any way if she wanted to live her life the way she wanted. Alindra, set to launch her attack at the males, suddenly stopped, noticing that something was wrong. She seemed to be confused as to what was happening as the males that approached with tremendous speed before suddenly started to plummet to the ground as if their ability to fly had been taken away from them. They were unable to fly past where they had reached in the sky. 'Oh?' Coatl, the ancient one, who had been silent at all that happened all this while exclaimed with a raise of an eyebrow. Seeing the grey jet that shot to the sky rapidly towards Alindra, she couldn't help but wonder if Alindra had truly managed to entice an ancient. Even she was unable to tell as she couldn't sense the aura of the new suitor who seemed to be able to move whilst others weren't. It didn't take no genius to realize that he was the cause of such happening. King Choryrth on the other hand, simply smirked setting sight on the ongoing. His mocking gaze was fixated on the dark purple-scaled dragon lord who found it had to fly any further than he has. 'Finally...' He thought to himself.
