JASMINE POV Haley had just run off after William, probably to interrogate him about something I wasn’t meant to hear. I stayed in the kitchen, pouring pancake batter into the pan and pretending everything felt normal. The phone buzzed again on the counter. I rolled my eyes. It was Halloween, probably just some prank call or a spam message with a cheesy pumpkin emoji. But it kept ringing. And when I glanced down at the screen, there was no caller ID, just a blank number and an eerie persistence. I picked it up. The voice was flat and distorted, like someone using a cheap filter. “Happy Halloween, Jasmine. Thought you’d want to see this.” Then it cut off. A new video appeared on my screen. I hesitated. My thumb hovered. I already felt cold, like my body knew what I was about to see.
