SAGE POV. Henry waved a hand in front of my face. “Wake from your thoughts, young man,” he said. “We must return before the bell rings for the noon meal.” “Oh. Okay,” I said, bending to help Kai gather our things. But I couldn’t stop thinking about everything they had said. Kai claimed students weren’t allowed to evaluate one another, but Henry was from the House of Trackers, the most cunning of the four houses. And now that I thought about it, he had been oddly kind to me from the start, too friendly, maybe. I had no strength or skill worth admiring, and he had nothing to gain from being close to me. Yet he had invited me out to the quiet side of the school. He said we would have fun, but all we did was read and swim. Or rather, he swam, Kai read, and I spent most of the time watching
