ANNALISE POV
Opening up to receive the connection took more energy than I was expecting. Even with advanced healing, these wounds would take at least a week to fully go away. Whenever I look down at my clothes, all I see are the red and brown stains from the blood I've lost. If I were a human, I would've died three times by now, of that, I'm sure. Focusing a great deal on the voice calling to me in my mind takes me face to face, Mitch. I haven't seen him in a long time, and he's changed quite a bit in the last three years. He seems taller and stronger. His blonde hair is a little longer. A smile appears on his face as he sees me begin to materialize in front of him, but it quickly falls after seeing me sitting rather than standing and covered in bruises, cuts, and blood.
"What's wrong, Mitch? Didn't expect to see me this way?" I smirk with a slightly playful tone. He just stares for a while longer before moving to sit before me.
"You look like shit." He states. I crack a small smile and then wince as it pulls at a cut on my lip.
"I'd say you should see the other guy, but unfortunately, they had me chained." We look at one another for a moment. "So, what can I help you with?" I ask since I'm starting to run out of energy to stay where I am.
"Dean called, I'm on my way to get you and the other girl with you." His cheeks turn a slight shade of pink at mentioning Blair. I lean back a little and give him a soft smile.
"She's your second chance, isn't she?" His eyes snap to mine, and he nods shyly. "Well, until you get here, I'll make sure no one lays a hand on her. But Mitch." He cuts me off.
"Don't even think about it, Anna. I'll be able to get both of you out." I sigh.
"Mitch, with the state I'm in, I'd only slow you down. Get her out and to safety, then come back for me. I'll be ok, you trained me, remember?" He shakes his head as he looks down.
"What do I tell your brother and your mate?"
"Please don't tell them of my current state, I don't want them to worry more than they already are. When you return with Blair, you tell them I chose to stay behind so you could get her to safety." He nods, letting me know he'll do as I ask. "I have to go, I don't have the energy to stay any longer. All I know is we're to the East." With that, it all disappeared, and I am back in the cell, chained and tired.
I don't know how many days it's been since Mitch reached out to me, but I've been on the receiving end of quite a few torture sessions. I hope Blair's rescue gets here soon, I don't know how much longer she'll be able to stand seeing me like this. She cries every time and has tried to get them to take her a few times, but they pay her no attention. She's gotten thinner, too thin, from the inconsistent meals. Her torture hasn't been physical, but psychological, seeing me the way I am and how it's worse some days. I had overheard that Drake, Jill, and Declan would be gone for a few days, so that means there would be a few days with no visitors. Hearing movement down the hall causes us both to go on alert. I notice that Blair takes in a deep breath, and I know it's Mitch and relax.
I watch as Mitch and Blair find each other, I really do hope they get back before anyone notices Blair is missing. Mitch instantly goes to her cell and pulls it open, moves quickly to the chains that hold her to the wall, and rips them away. He checks her over for any kind of injury, all while she looks at him with love and hope. He grabs her hand and begins to pull her to the hall when she stops right outside my cell. I look at her and smile, and then nod to Mitch.
"Blair, I won't make it in the state I am. I'll cover for you as you get away. Go with Mitch, I trust him with my life, and so I know he'll protect you with his." She reluctantly gets pulled away.
Once they are out of my sight, I let out the breath I held and lean my head back. Please, Moon Goddess, if you're there, please let them get back to Black Rock safely.
BLAIR POV
Finding my mate was the last thing I expected while being held captive. I know Anna knew he was coming she seemed too relaxed at his entrance, and then didn't seem phased when we started to leave without her. Once we were out of the rogue pack lands, my mate, Mitch, shifted and gestured for me to climb on his back. After about two hours, he stopped, I climbed off, and he shifted back. He pulled out some shorts from a tree, so he must have purposely stopped here.
"We're only about a mile from your pack lands. Do you mind if we walk together from here?" I stand there, staring at his muscular body that's on display, while trying to hide how the sound of his smooth voice made me feel. I give a small nod, not fully trusting my voice quite yet. "I'm Mitch, as Anna said. You must be Blair, Alpha Scott's sister. They filled me in on who I was rescuing." He says with a small smile. I could get lost in his dimples and eyes as they sparkled.
"Thank you for rescuing me. Will Anna be ok?" I keep my eyes on the ground trying to hide how red my face is and making sure I don't trip.
"She'll be ok. She insisted I get you out first and then go back for her. She asked me to tell her brother and yours that she was covering for us so we could make it." I nod, I hope she is safe. I guess if my brother feels her death, we'll know. I also know that if she doesn't make it, I'll feel guilty that I left her behind.
We cross over onto Black Rock packlands, and I feel safe. Taking my mates hand in mine, I practically pull him to the pack house as he tries to stifle his laughter behind me. As we get to the front, I see my brother and Alpha Dean standing at the bottom of the stairs. I run to my brother and leap into his arms with tears running down my face. He looks me over just as Mitch had done, but the only physical injury I have is from the chains on my wrists. I turn to Alpha Dean and bend my neck in submission.
"Thank you, Alpha Dean, for your part in helping me." He smiles, but it's sad. I'm sure he was hoping to see his sister with us.
"You are most welcome, Blair. I hope you weren't treated too terribly."
"No, Anna made sure of it. She told them she'd fight them and destroy their little pack if they laid a finger on me." He nods and smiles again, this time a little more happily than sad.
"That sounds like her. Mitch?" Mitch steps out from his protective stance and towards his alpha.
"Anna told us to get out and that she would cover for us. I will go back for her at night fall." His professional tone was deeper and sent shivers of pleasure through my body.
"Rest Mitch. Spend some time with your mate. You can leave tomorrow after lunch. They'll be on alert since one of their prisoners escaped." He nods and then looks at me and smiles. I smile back and then instantly step forward, reclaiming the attention of the alphas.
"Jill and Declan are a part of this, and some guy named Drake." A loud and angry roar left Alpha Dean as he begins to take off towards the border.
