Chapter 2

Clint towered over me, but he didn’t intimidate me anymore. “You smell like s*x,” he spat. I clenched my teeth. “That’s an unusual talent, Clint. Most men are skilled with their tongues and not their noses.” Clint shook his head and chuckled. “I don’t know where this backbone came from, but—” “But you don’t like it, yes, I know.” “This is unacceptable behaviour. You’re my fiancée.” “It’s an arranged marriage,” I said quickly. “It doesn’t matter. You should be having s*x with me only. It’s been five months, Briar,” he whimpered. “Yes, five months since we last slept together! I know you’ve been getting it from somewhere else.” “That doesn’t give you the license to do the same,” Clint spat. “How dare you?” I scoffed. Clint grabbed my arm, but I snatched it free. “Don’t touch me. I’m not in the mood for you.” “What’s your Father going to think when he finds out you’re screwing some random person?” “Stop.” “I know for a fact he’s not part of our group. Tell me, Briar is a bodyguard? A gardener? Of course not, you’d be more careful than that,” Clint spat. “Stop it, Clint. You have no idea what you’re talking about.” “Whatever. Our wedding’s in four weeks, I expect you to change your behaviour before then,” he said. I paused. “Our wedding’s in five months, what’s wrong with you?” “I had it moved up. Why wait? It’s not like we don’t have the money to get married tomorrow.” Heat rushed to my cheeks. Everything was fine when our wedding was five months away. I had time to come up with an excuse to ditch this jackass! “I’m going inside,” I murmured. Clint pulled out a cigarette from his back pocket and shrugged. “Spend the night with me, Briar,” Clint said. We locked eyes for a second, but we both knew that wouldn’t happen. I used back door the back door to sneak into the house. The second I made it to my bedroom, I locked the door and dialled Severin’s number. “Miss me already, Temptress?” “Severin,” I breathed out. “We have a problem.” “Daddy dearest?” I heard the noise in the background and realised he was at the bar. Severin’s part of town seemed like another world, even though his side of town and mine were forty-five minutes apart. “Clint?” Severin replied. I heard the edge in his tone and could imagine the tension in his shoulders. “Yeah…” “Did he touch you? I don’t care how many bodyguards you have over there. All I need are two guys, and the pretty boy’s dead.” “Please don’t. Can I meet you earlier tomorrow?” “Of course. We’ll figure this out even if we have to leave.” My heart jumped into my throat. Dad wouldn’t let me leave without a fight. My marriage to Clint ensured a powerhouse financial alliance. I was the only child and the only one he could use for this deal. Clint’s Father wasn’t a billionaire who liked to be toyed with either. My father wasn’t a saint, but Mr Henderson was a tyrant. “I’ll see you tomorrow,” I whispered. I hung up. I had to talk to my Dad. He got me into this mess, he had to get me out. Talking to my Mother about it was a waste of time. She would just faint on me. It was after midnight, and the voices downstairs died down. The cars in the front yard were all gone, including Clint’s. “Good,” I breathed out. I went downstairs, hoping to find my Father drinking one of these expensive drinks. A thud came from the walls in the living room. The second thud was louder than the first. I jumped, and my blood raced into my ears. I followed the sound towards Dad’s private office. I stood outside the white double doors. The voices were muffled because of the thick walls, but I could still make out the words. “What if someone broke in?” I hissed. “Shit.” I grabbed my phone, about to call the police. “Ahh, ahh.” I heard faint, muffled voices. I stepped back, holding the phone to my chest. “Harder, Wes. Satisfy me the way only you can.” A chill ran down my spine. The phone slipped from my fingers and hit the tiled floor. “I can’t control myself when you’re here, Naomi.” “I always want to feel your c**k, Daddy.” Bile rose in my throat. No, this can’t be happening.
