Chapter 1 --When We were Young
Briar POV
I gripped the sheets as Severin ploughed into me. He dominated my body, mind and soul. I clung to him as he thrust into me with such passion. I was on the edge, and so was he. Severin emptied his load inside me, and the result of my desire pulsated around him.
“Ah… babe,” I panted.
Severn planted small kisses on my chest as he slowly rolled out of me. I was spent, but I couldn’t let this moment end. It felt like time moved extra fast when I was with him. Time the hand on my back constantly moving me along. Couldn’t it wait to let me enjoy this moment?
My moments with Severin were too sweet to savour and too precious to keep. They always had to end to protect their existence.
“You’re so good. So good,” he murmured as he sucked on my neck.
I shut my eyes as his fingers brushed along every curve.
“Stay the night,” Severin whispered.
I smiled. “You know I can’t.”
“Can’t blame a man for trying. You don’t even want to go to dinner.”
Severin rolled on his back and exhaled. We were both exhausted and drenched in sweat. The logical thing to do would be to turn off the lamps and fall asleep. However, my Father was hosting an important business meeting at our home. I was already thirty minutes late. Not the best impression for an heiress.
I rolled out of bed and searched for my clothes. “I have to keep up appearances. I’ve been sloppy the last few nights.”
Severin rolled on his side. “I don’t care if your Dad finds out about us.”
“I do.”
“I know you have a lot to lose.” He rolled on his back.
He folded his muscular and tattooed arms behind his head.
I climbed on the bed and straddled him.
“I do have a lot to lose. He’ll make me give you up. He can be as stubborn as me.”
Severin stroked my cheeks. “Let me worry about that. Come on, I’ll give you a ride home.”
I giggled. “I thought you’d never ask!”
I wrapped my arms around him, gripping the black leather jacket and clinging to the motorbike. The vintage beast that matched the one within its master. Together, they conquered any road they ventured on.
As usual, Severin dropped me off outside my neighbourhood so I could walk the rest of the way. He didn’t like it because he wasn’t one to back out of a fight. We had to do it for the sake of peace.
“I’ll see you tomorrow, I’ll come by the bar,” I said.
He sucked in a breath and bobbed his head from side to side. “No, I’ll meet you at your little fancy places.”
“Come on, it’s easier to meet up in your side of town. My Dad wouldn’t be caught dead there. No offence.”
He gave me a pressed smile. “Haha… I noticed a few eyes on you, and I don’t like it.”
“Aww, Severin Sinclair, are you jealous?!”
“I don’t get jealous. I just break people's noses.”
I laughed and stroked his perfect kissable lips. “Try not to get into trouble.”
“Can’t promise that. Come here.”
He hooked an arm around my waist and pulled me close. He closed his lips on mine, our tongues mingling for a few seconds.
“I love you, bye,” I said.
I walked for five minutes until I got to my house. The six cars parked in the driveway made me cringe. I was late. I couldn’t show up in my casual jean dress and messed-up hair.
“There you are, Briar!” Naomi threw her arms in the air.
My best friend had her fancy apricot dinner dress on, her black hair pulled into a tight bun. She wore her signature diamond earrings. Diamonds were her signature look, but Naomi never wore the same pair twice.
“Sorry, I lost track of time.”
Naomi rolled her eyes. “It’s so easy to lose track of time when you’re being fucked.”
“Shhh! Not here.” I grabbed her arm and dragged her away from the front door.
“I didn’t know you were coming tonight. I thought your dad was out of town,” I said.
She grimaced. “He is. He’ll be gone for two weeks.”
Naomi and I had been best friends since we were six and joined ballet class together. Our fathers were already business partners in several investments. Naomi’s father was a bank owner. He owned several banks, which allowed his daughter to wear diamonds and lock them away the next day. However, word on the gossip vine was that Naomi was on the outs with her father.
I tried asking her about it, but she shut me down. Her dad cut her off from his money because of her overspending, but I couldn’t help but wonder if there was more.
“So did you come to make him happy?” I asked.
She scowled. “Of course not. My mother made me come. Apparently, I have to get used to attending more private functions, but it’s boring the hell out of me.”
“If you had told me you were coming, I would have been here earlier.”
Naomi shrugged. “I didn’t want to steal you from your biker. The s*x must be amazing if you’re still with him after two months.”
“Are you trying to get me caught? Keep it down.”
“Relax, it’s just the two of us out here. Everyone’s talking about the stock market in the dining room.”
“It’s not about the s*x. Yes, it’s amazing! I really like Severin. Really like him.”
“Briar Freya James, are you in love with a low-life biker? He’s in a dangerous club! He doesn’t own a car or insurance. What does he have?”
I rolled my eyes. I can’t believe those are her priorities.
“He doesn’t fit in with our crowd,” Naomi ranted.
Sometimes I didn’t fit in either.
“Briar!”
Naomi paused.
“Oh crap,” I muttered.
“I think I’ll go back inside,” Naomi murmured. “See you later.”
“Yeah, bye,” I muttered.
A tall six-foot-one man in a navy blue suit with pushed-back blond hair marched towards me. Clint Henderson carried a deep frown on his face. His mossy green eyes darkened under the security lights.
A chill ran down my spine as my fiancé stopped in front of me.
“Where have you been?”
