All sense of logic flew as my body turned into offensive mode. I was swinging at her before I could stop myself but a hand pinned my wrists against my back.
I fought against it, screaming my lungs out, and my body jerked in a way it had never done before.
My fangs and claws had sharpened, ready to attack. I wasn't calling onto my wolf, but somehow, she was coming. I could feel myself at the brink of a transformation.
But then, a voice ended the madness.
"Stop."
My body, terse with unreleased adrenaline, halted. It was still stiff with tension. Luca's voice of authority couldn't do anything about that.
"Get her out of here!"
"I want you to calm down and tell me why you want her out."
I snarled. "She's a witch."
"We know that."
"Not that type of witch. She's evil. She bewitched him!" I pulled away from his grasp with all my strength and went straight for her.
She took off her veil. "Sarina," her voice was eerily calm. "Have you seen this face before?"
I stopped mid battle, my mouth hanging open in the air. Because the fact was that I hadn't seen that face before. Never.
"Get her some rosewater," the woman said to Luca.
He didn't look like a man that was used to being ordered around but he obeyed regardless.
"I'm sorry," I muttered after gulping the water. "You look like someone I know."
"Someone you hate, you mean."
I shrugged.
"Lilian is my sister."
The admission sent me into shock. I now had mixed feelings for this woman seated in front of me. She was related to my enemy after all. A thought occurred to me and I sat up. "Is she a witch too?"
"Lilian might have inherited a few of the family's powers. But no, she's not a witch."
"So it is likely that she bewitched Zander."
"Sarina," Luca warned.
I knew I was grasping at straws, yet I needed something to hold on to. "You don't understand," I said to him. "Zander loved me. His rejection doesn't make any sense. None of this does."
"It doesn't because you're still in a vulnerable state."
I ignored him. "Your sister is evil."
The witch nodded. "She can be."
Again, her admission spun me. I wasn't expecting it. "So she bewitched him? My mate?"
"It wouldn't be wise to come to that conclusion right now. You have to let the steam off your body."
I scoffed. "Steam."
"There's so much anger in you, Sarina. And it is breeding the feline poison that was injected into you."
"Excuse me…"
"Delilah," she supplied.
"Delilah. What feline poison? What poison?"
"It is what is making your rogue go out of hand. It was likely meant to kill you."
I felt the air close in around me. Luca had been there, but somehow, he had faded into the background. Given Delilah and I some space. Abruptly, he was by my side with a cup of another concoction.
"This is all too much."
"I know. But we have to work on getting the poison out of your system and before we do that, we have to work on your anger."
I knew she used 'we' to make it less scary. I knew the pronoun she really meant was 'I'. I was the one to put my damaged self back together. After losing a baby, a mate, and an entire pack. After losing myself. I wasn't sure I could ever heal from this. I wasn't sure I wanted to.
I had to escape from this place. And there was only one way to do it. Make them believe that I was in on their plans.
She took my hand in hers. Hers were so freezing that goosebumps covered my arms immediately. "You ready to let go of that rage, Sarina?"
"They took everything from me."
Her thumb ran circles around my skin, aiming to sooth me. It was working. "I know."
I locked my jaw and stared her straight in the eyes. "They deserve to die."
"You deserve to live. And this is not the way to do it."
I sighed and my body sagged. "Fine. Let's get rid of the anger then."
I looked up just in time to see them both exchange suspicious glances. Did I give in too quickly?
"You should clean up first. I'll come back tomorrow and we can perform the first ritual." Delilah took her hands away and stood up. "Don't put yourself in danger by leaving this place, Sarina," she said in a final warning.
My cheeks turned crimson in embarrassment. "I wasn't going to!"
"I know you know what's best for you."
I let my head hang on the edge of the bathtub as warm, soapy water caressed my skin. It was the most relaxed I had been in a while, yet I wasn't very relaxed.
Suddenly, the door opened and a huge figure barged in. Luca.
He looked furious. It was the first time I had seen him express emotions.
"You lost a baby?" He hissed.
No longer craving the relaxing power of the water, I stood up, fully naked. "I need privacy."
His eyes stayed on my face. "Why didn't you tell me?"
"It was my personal business."
"Bullshit." Finally, he let his eyes stray to my upper body and settled on my stomach. The injury was gruesome. He narrowed h
is eyes. "I don't care what the hell Delilah was saying about letting go of anger. Whoever did that to you deserves
