WRITER’S POV
If regrets were horses..
"YOU KNOW THE RULES! You get picked or you get killed." The 5’4 pot-bellied auctioneer's voice echoed through the cold, dark hall, his words dripping with malice.
The crowd's laughter sent chills down her spine. She begged desperately, her voice trembling.
"No no... no please, please don't kill me. Pl-please..." Claire— Her name tag on her bra seemed to mock her, a harsh reminder of her vulnerability.
"Get your filthy hands off me!" the auctioneer boomed, his slap sending Claire crashing to the floor. Her pleas turned to desperate sobs, her small body shaking uncontrollably.
"Please... pleaseeee..." her voice croaked, fear consuming her.
The Toskalovian Werewolf Mafia Legacy members watched with indifference, their faces hidden behind cat-themed masks. They were desensitized to the horrors unfolding before them.
"RUFO! Get that b***h off the stage!" a voice yelled from the crowd, fueling Claire's desperation.
As the bodyguards dragged her away, Claire's eyes met Audrey's, a silent plea for help. Audrey's heart ached horribly, her own fear momentarily forgotten.
Rufo and his men eventually stopped their movement, asking Claire to go. She had been released.
"Well, let’s just say you're one of the lucky ones tonight.” the auctioneer announced, his sarcasm dripping with cruelty.
"Run, my love..." He sneered, his eyes shone with sadistic pleasure.
Suddenly, the room fell silent.
Surprise shone all over Claire’s features. Her fearful eyes locked with Audrey’s again.
“Go..” Audrey mouthed. Giving her the last push of courage.
Claire immediately turned on her heels to run.
BANG!
The crowd's applause and yells shattered the air. This was their show!
BANG BANG!
"Arrhhhhhh..." The other girls, crumpled in the corner, wearing only their underwear, screamed and cried, awaiting their own fate.
Claire's lifeless body was dragged away —not carried— her limp form scraping against the cold white tiles. Like they had done to the six other girls who were ‘unlucky’.
Audrey shut her eyes tight, fighting back tears and her dying urge to pee. If she held it in any longer, she'd have an asthma attack. Her heart raced, her thoughts consumed with terror.
Oh God!
"NEXT! Next..." The men yelled impatiently, their voices cutting through Audrey's despair.
Audrey began whispering desperate prayers, hoping her late mother would answer.
She didn't want to be next— No, scrap that. She didn't want to die in her least favorite underwear.
"YOU!"
Audrey froze.
Rufo and his men moved passed her and dragged out the girl behind her.
"Pleaseeee.. Noo!!..." her cries and pleas were drowned out by the laughter, a haunting echo from the crowd.
Audrey opened her eyes, relief washing over her, but it was short-lived. The bidding began again, a sinister game of life and death.
Audrey took her eyes off the bidding, she wanted to focus her mind on something else. Something less painful the huge pin that was used to hold her name tag in place, the pin was piercing her bra. Her breast actually.
She wished to just yank it off.
If wishes were horses. Everyone would ride. But right now if regrets were horses, Audrey would steal all the horses and ride far away.
Recalling how she got mixed in all this..
She should never have listened to her siblings who planned a ‘surprise evening’ for her. Audrey thought they had finally repented from their evil ways.
The betrayal cut deep each passing second.
So much for having siblings. Well, step-siblings if that counts.
"Going.. Going.. $139,000 for this piece .. do I see a hand at the back? .. $139,500!" The crowd's frenzy drew Audrey's attention back to the supposed 'Charity event'. Apparently, this girl's bidding was going fine. But wasn't being picked by these men worse than death?
Her eyes scanned the grand underground auditorium, its luxurious feeling masking sinister intentions. These powerful men hosted charity events twice a year, deceiving the world above with mocking facade of being philanthropist with the disguise of a charity event.
Why did they all wear funny looking masks?
“What are you thinking of??” Amelia shook Audrey, whispering harshly beside her.
Oh yeah. Amelia who just turned twenty that day, was her new friend and confidant. They’ve been together since the night they were captured.
“I Uhmm.. I want to really pee Lia,.. you can see how I’m squeezing my toes?! I’ve been thinking of urinating all night!” Audrey whispered back in hushed tones. Her tears resumed.
“Then pee! Who’s stopping you?”
Audrey stared at her shocked! Wiping the tears off her face “who’s stopping me?!” She whisper-yelled “ I won’t be picked! I’ll be killed and ..”
“YOU!.. HEY!”
Audrey’s heart dropped. Ready to fall out her chest.
She didn’t dare look up but she felt Rufo’s burning glare on her. Amelia locked their hands together. She swallowed hard.
“You’ll be fine..please don’t cry.” She croaked. Her own tears mixing with her catarrh.
Rufo's brutal grip seized Audrey's arm, tearing her from Amelia. The men cheered, they loved feisty. It was evident they had a kink for abuse.
One of Rufo’s bodyguards yanked Amelia away, striking her with large slaps. Yet, she refused to yield.
Rufo threw Audrey across his shoulder. "Pleaseeee stoppp.. pleaseeee " She begged. Her bladder giving up on her.
Fuck!
"Bitchhhhhh!" Rufo shouted, furious at her as he flung her onto the stage. His suit soaked with urine.
“ENOUGH!” Someone boomed angrily from the crowd stopping Rufo from descending on her. All of a sudden everywhere went quiet.
He was actually referring to the man beating up Amelia. That was who his evil mind wanted!
Who was he? Did he just—
"Let's Begin." the short, pot-bellied man declared, his face twisted in disgust as he gazed at Audrey.
Forced to stand upright, Audrey's legs trembled, dripping with urine. Tears streamed down her face, her mind numb to the men's lewd comments.
Despite her resistance earlier on, her bladder had won the battle. A chuckle escaped her lips, earning a fierce glare from the angry goblin.
"What did you say?!!" he yelled, ready to smack her.
In that instant, the lights flickered, and the room went into chaos. Masked men stormed in, their leader wearing a wolf mask, carrying an aura of power and intimidation.
The crowd went wild, loud whispers spreading around. Everyone knew who he was.
“He’s here.. he’s here..” Audrey heard two men speak in hushed tones.
As the new comer took his seat, his piercing gaze locked onto Audrey. She stiffened, causing her heart to race nonstop.
The pot-bellied man cleared his throat, attempting to regain control. "We shall now proceed with the auction."
Audrey was f****d!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Thirty minutes passed, and Audrey remained not picked. The comments she received were unflattering, but she seemed unfazed.
Adam observed her, torn between curiosity and concern. This was his first time attending the Toskalovian Werewolf Mafia Legacy's charity event, and he was disgusted by the underlying illicit activities. Although he was The underboss Mafia Warewolf. He had his limits…
"$30?.. ohh.. $32?" The auctioneer laughed, mocking Audrey.
"58 f*****g dollars for this piece of s**t right here!" The crowd's laughter intensified.
Adam had just investigated Audrey's background. Her story resonated with him, reminding him of his late sister, who would have been eighteen if she hadn't been killed.
There was just something.. something drawing him to Audrey.
Audrey's eyes met Adam's, causing him to feel an unexpected spark. The wolf within him growled, startling him. His grip on his seat tightened.
Adam struggled to tame his wolf.
"Two hundred million dollars!" Adam declared, his voice echoing through the hall.
There were gasps and murmurs flying.
The bidding suddenly gained momentum, but no one dared challenge Adam Mancini’s bid.
However, a new figure who had been quiet all night stood up.
"Three hundred million dollars!" An old bodied man bellowed furiously from the crowd, his voice echoing through the hall, challenging Adam.
Everyone knew him! With or without the mask- Alessandro De Luca, the notorious number one boss of the Toskalovians Mafia and Adam's arch-rival.
Adam seethed with anger. Why challenge him now? Just few minutes ago nobody wanted her!
"Nine hundred million dollars!" Adam thundered, his voice shaking the room. Pandemonium that had been brewing all night began.
Alessandro sneered, "Back off, Adam. She's mine. You can’t outbid me!"
Adam refused to yield, despite the odds. The hall quickly descended into serious chaos.
"Nine .. Nine hundred million dollars! Going!! Who' —"
BANG!
Alessandro's man has just gunned down the auctioneer.
Adam's and Alessandro's men clashed. The Girls screamed, fleeing in terror.
Amelia rushed to drag Audrey who was still in shock away, but a huge man grabbed Audrey by her hair.
"Ahhhhhh!" Audrey was flung to the floor. The man pinned her, ready to strike. She kept struggling. Not giving him a chance.
BANG!
Someone had shot him, blowing his brains out. The thick Blood splattered all over Audrey oozing out, leaving her shaken and extremely nauseous. Her head spinning uncontrollably.
Just before loosing consciousness, Audrey felt herself wrapped around her rescuer’s strong arms being carried away.
“Stay with me, Bellasimo.”
