AUDREY'S POV
“Get the nurse right now! Don't just stand there! Get the f*****g nurse already!”
My head was spinning.
“GET THE SEDATIVES!” The voice around me blended into a chaotic atmosphere but I knew that voice.
It was the unmistakable angry voice of the man who was keeping me here.
They kept coming back, the memories, the pain, the fear, it all felt real.
I screamed and trashed about in bed, tears streaking down my face as I muttered “please don't kill me” over and over while screaming out and trying to struggle out of the grasp of whoever held me down.
No, they got me. They were going to kill me! I clawed and kicked but the grip was strong and my vision was blank.
“Let go of me! Don't hurt me” I shouted, trying to hit the person but the figure didn't budge.
“Calm down Audrey. It's just a nightmare” his voice reached my inner mind and I began to calm down, my chest still heaving visibly.
“No, no I don't want to go. Don't hurt me” I whispered, my hands clenching into fists on the silky clothes of the man who held me.
He said a few more soothing words which I couldn't hear over the sound of rushing feet followed by a muffled sound then the sharp prick of a needle pressed into my neck made me jerk, my eyes lids forcing shut involuntarily as I fell unconscious— again.
The light streaming through the windows woke me up and I scrambled up, my heart thumping as I looked around the room
I was alive. It was just a silly nightmare. Same nightmares I have been having since that tragic night.
Relaxing slightly, I pushed back my hair behind my ears and sighed, my gaze falling on the door.
It had been more than a week since I got here and I have barely been able to leave this room. Only on few occasions they wheel me out to receive sunlight and fresh air. Luckily I have only met my mysterious savior twice! Both times he wore a mask. It was just..
The sound of the door creaking open made me jerk and turn in time to see a maid walk In with a tray of bread and toast, a glass of orange juice resting beside it.
“Good morning. How do you feel this morning little miss? Better ?” She asked, setting the tray on the table.
I knitted my palms together and nodded. “Yes.. uhh thank you” I whispered.
Great, I had made a spectacle yesterday.
That was embarrassing to say in the least.
“Here are some pills to help you sleep better. The nurse said you should have some rest occasionally”, she said sitting at the edge of bed, her russet eyes watching me.
“When will I get to leave?” I blurted out, biting down on my food gently.
She gave a small smile. “Just get comfortable. No one is going to harm you here. You're safe”
I sighed. “How long have you been here?” I found myself asking.
“Long enough to know you're in safe hands” she said again.
“Who's the person in charge?” I asked, wanting to get more information.
She chuckled. “You'll find that out soon enough. Just… relax. Those nightmares of yours …seems to scare the s**t out of you.” She paused and ran a hand through her hair.
“Wait” I tried to stop her but she just let out another smile.
“I should go now. Enjoy your food” She said then she was out the door.
Groaning, I swung my legs off the bed and shambled to the window, looking down at the surrounding.
A vast expanse of land with cars and… guards. Well armed also, just patrolling around.
Where in the nine hells was I? It did me no good to know that no one had come to explain these things to me yet. I was kept in the dark but treated well and the thought made me nervous.
Looking back at the door to my room, I tilted my head and walked to it, my hand resting on the door knob.
It was always closed but I liked to try everyday so I pulled it just to see. My eyes widened as the door slowly creaked open.
Holy s**t, my door was open?
I didn't waste any more time before I left the room and looked around the massive house, trying the avoid being seen by people as I tiptoed to the west wing of the hallway to have a look around.
As I neared the end of the hallway, I heard voices from a corner so I peeped and I saw a door opened by just a crack.
Should I turn back and just go back to my room before I was discovered?
No! Audrey! What else are your eyes for!
Oh well, my curiosity got the better of me and I tiptoed to the door and peeped in.
It was a meeting of some sorts, men had gathered around a round glass table and they were discussing wildly as though in an… argument.
My gaze landed on the person at the far end of the table and I frowned knowing I had seen those eyes before.
The person at the auction. He was one of the people at the auction.
He.. he was the man who yelled that commanding ‘ENOUGH’.
I slowly checked the other men there but none of them seemed familiar and the only person I couldn't see was the person who was sitting at the head of the table, backing the door but I could his hand on the armrest slowly tapping the seat with his fingers.
He seemed to be the only one who wasn't too bothered about whatever they were discussing. I wanted to see his face but no matter how much I adjusted, I couldn't see him without giving myself away so I stayed put.
“... YOU! The shipment should have come two days back!” A man with scruffy red hair said angrily while the man beside him shook his head.
“Just calm down Giovanni” he said with a frown.
The Giovanni adjusted on his chair, leaning back and that was when I was able to see it.
What was it?
My heart caught in my throat as I realized what was on the table. A dead man. His blood pooled on the table with a gaping hole in his forehead.
Oh GOD!
Christ!, they had killed him and they didn't even seem bothered about it.
“Mateo, explain what happened.” Giovanni suddenly said pointing a finger at another man.
“Aha! I knew the pinprick had something to do with it!” Another man said, pushing Mateo to the ground, his knee digging into the other man's back.
The man I recognized from the auction looked at the man on the ground. “Mateo, what happened to the shipment?”
The man raised his hand up and shook his head. “I swear, I don't know.”
Giovanni scoffed and took out his phone, going around the table to show the man something. “See. Those are your lovely kids. Hmmm?. Start talking or…”
The threat was clear.
My heart was thumping so hard in my chest and my palms were becoming sweaty but I didn't want to leave.
Not yet at least.
“No, pleaseeee.. pl-please.. don't harm them!” The man yelled and clawed but was pushed back down the ground roughly and kicked in the ribs.
“Then start talking, damnit!”
“I don't know!” Mateo screamed, standing up, a trail of blood streaking down his face.
Immediately two precise BANGS went off in the phone's speaker and the two kids dropped.
My eyes widened. Did they just…
Mateo gasped and screamed. “No! I swear I don't know anything about the shipment!” He was shaking uncontrollably. His terror— palpable.
“Start talking or you're next!” Giovanni grabbed his collar roughly before shoving him back.
The man at the head of the table seemed very unbothered as his fingers just kept drumming against the hand of the chair.
Those long veiny hands, they looked.. FOCUS AUDREY!
“The noise is getting too much…” he said calmly and I frowned at the voice. There was something familiar about it.
The men paused their fight for a second then everyone's attention turned back to Mateo who was running hands through his hair and trying to find his footing by leaning on the walls, tears streaming down his face.
“God damnit Mateo! What did you do to the shipment?!” Another man yelled, slamming his hands on the table.
Mateo's eyes flashed angrily and he pointed a finger at the man. “f**k you, Williams! You're the one that got me into this whole f*****g mess!” He yelled.
Williams pulled out a gun as fast as lightening and shot Mateo point blank in the head, gore splattering on the wall as the other man dropped dead.
It was so sudden that I gasped, a sharp fearful sound escaping my mouth.
Fuck.
The man at the head of the table stopped drumming his fingers and my eyes widened.
Trembling, I hastily took a step back when I heard something crashing to the ground and I froze, looking down at the large flower vase that had shattered.
No.. no no.. God no!
Everyone suddenly stopped talking.
Shit.
