Loving My Boss

ELENA "Miss Elena James ” I heard the secretary called, it took about a minute for me to realize that I was the one being called upon. I was here for a job interview and I have never needed a job this bad but with my father’s health depreciating daily and my elder brother loosing his job , I had to get a job to support my family. I just had to do something, my brother and father were all I had, all I have known , well ever since madam Clara woke up and decided we were not good enough for her and vanished into the air . "Hi,good morning “ I greeted the secretary, a petite lady with obviously too much makeup, carrying such a tight smile but I couldn’t blame her , with a makeup like that ,smiling too much will definitely do her more harm than good . I almost laughed with the thought of her smiling , her face breaking due to the smile and palmed my face, I had to focus , I need this job "The fourth door on the right “ the secretary said briefly, she couldn’t be more dismissive even if she tried . Walking to the fourth door on the right , I debated if I should knock or not , will it be rude if I didn’t or childish if I did ? I decided to knock but no answer came through so I pushed the door open and was beyond shocked . Five men sat before me , catching me off guard. Why are they five men sitting here ? I thought I was going to be interviewed by just one person , it’s not like I’m applying for an executive role or something. If I was tensed earlier, this has taken it to a whole different level "Good morning sirs “ I said trying to hide my surprise , who says sirs? Is that even correct ? Oh my days , I was going to get fired even before I get employed "Good morning,please introduce yourself “ one of the men who appeared to be the oldest in the room spoke up, was he the CEO? I did some research on this company and I know it was founded by some American billionaire who has so many companies and investments all over the place , though retired, his two sons are running the company effectively with one of them as the Chief executive officer and the other as the chief operating officer but like their father, their pictures are not on the internet, was it a privacy thing ? Maybe personal reasons. "I'm Elena James, a graduate of Hult Business School. I'm proactive, adaptable, and passionate about delivering exceptional services to contribute to a productive work environment.“ I answered confidently and my oh my, they were impressed, they were doing a good job concealing it but even a child could tell I impressed them with my answer "As a personal assistant, what are your best services? One of the men asked "Fetching the best cup of coffee to get my employer active and ready for the day “ I replied with a smile The whole room filled with laughter except one who cracked a smile Mrs Katherine , my former employer always told me I had a good sense of humor and would always bring joy to her day , God bless her beautiful soul "I’m also very attentive and always willing to do whatever it takes to make my employer work easier “ I added "Whatever it takes ?” The non laughing man asked raising an eyebrow and for some reason I felt he was the boss, there was something about him, he has this aura around him and with the way they all straighten up when he spoke , I knew I was right "Yes sir “ I replied "Be careful what you say girl” he warned with his brows furrowed , I was scared that he didn’t like me Just then, he stood up. "My coffee must be on my desk by 7:15 a.m., and my itinerary ready before I arrive. I dislike pink; never wear it. Bianca will show you to your office and brief you. You start tomorrow."Mr boss finally finished talking and I realized, I got the job , I bloody got the job . The whole room spun and I felt lightheaded , so fast ? And all I had to do was make them laugh . Mr boss walked up to me and for the first time I really see him , tall, muscular and handsome. "Two strikes and you’re out but for now welcome to the company” he exited before I could respond, the other staff congratulated me and seeming surprised by the swift decision . I didn't care; I had the job, and if the salary listed on their website was accurate, I had hit the jackpot. BERNARD I wasn't sure if it was due to a week of interviewing unimpressive applicants or my desperation for an assistant, but I hired her quickly. Maybe I wanted to convince myself it was justified, but deep down, I knew it was more about her. There was just something captivating about Elena , her slim frame in that simple pink dress and glasses that looked way bigger than her face . I may have noticed her more than I ought to. There was something about how she effortlessly carries herself and made the whole room laugh with her coffee joke , I nearly joined in , she didn’t seem like a ready to please person , her "whatever it takes” speech didn’t fool me yet I hired her anyway. I’m just tired of interviewing applicants, that’s it . This has nothing to do with her . My brother burst in , oblivious to my introspection "Hey man!“ "Don’t you ever knock “I sighed "Your office is my office man “ he said with a grin I wanted to slap off his face "how are you doing? Just felt like checking up on you “ he continued, I knew he either wanted something or needed to say something and I don’t have the energy for any "You saw me few minutes ago, what do you want?” I answered briefly flashing him a dismissive smile "So the new girl….“ he trailed off with a mischievous glint hinting at more and I honestly don’t know if it’s a statement or question "Elena? What about her ?” I replied, feigning disinterest "Ah, so you even remember her name , you must know her from somewhere just like I suspected” his excitement was absurd he must be crazy , know her from where ? "Dude you have lost it , remembering her name doesn’t mean I know her “ I shook my head, amazed at his foolishness despite his intelligence "That and you hired her so quickly , it’s very unlike you bro , you always scrutinize potential employees but this was different, it’s just like you were waiting for her so you could give her the job “ he observed making sense , it’s very unlike me to employ anyone so quickly especially someone who is going to be working directly under me "I was just tired of the pointless interviews “ I admitted questioning my true motives "Yeah , true . That can be very exhausting. She’s very stunning by the way. Modeling material not a PA to a grump like you “ he teased , does he like her ? Well I don’t care "She’s not tall enough for modeling and my salary trumps any modeling agency, I don’t think any can come close “I boasted "You noticed her height ! I see you , I see you bro! “ he laughed giving me a playful wink "Get out of my office , I have work to do “ I meant it "Whatever you say , dinner at your place tonight ?” He asked , he’s annoying but endearing, he has his way of making me feel relaxed "Yeah , see you at 8” he left and I found myself smiling for no reason .
