Chapter 1
Sariya looked over the the black dressed wrapped around her body. The lace hung off her shoulders, the velvet hugging tightly showing off her small figure. This dress was no doubt beautiful but it did not resemble her instead it showed signs of power and status, something she felt she no longer truly possessed. She took a deep breath slowly closing her eyes. She knew this day would come but somehow she had convinced herself all these years that this was all just a bad dream. Wishing more then anything she could wake up from this nightmare but unfortunate this was all to real and it was only about to get worse
Why did this feel like a nightmare. Do you know how many girls would die to be in your place right now. What a girl would give to wear that dress for a minute and yet here you are complaining calling it a nightmare. My mind screamed at me trying to convince me that what i was doing was right. I looked up to see a young maid walking fast towards me. "They are all waiting for you" She said. My own thoughts had drowned out all the noises around me and I had missed my introduction, well were off to a great start I thought as I gave my dress one last tug before stepping out onto the stage.
I could feel everyone's eyes on me and hear the gasps from men and women as i walked to take my place at the center of the stage. The two elders stood impatiently, eager to get this over and done with. Beside them stood their son Prince Slade. He was tall with a large build. His long black hair slicked back into a bun on top of his head. He blushed slightly under his ashy skin as his dark grey eyes slowly took me in from head to toe and back up again. Many were quick to judge him but he had been kind to me unlike the evil that had raised him. His father the elders of the dark had begun to address the people once more.
"We have brought you here today to witness with us the engagement of our son Prince Slade to Princess Sariya"
Prince Slade took one of the rings from the black velvet pillow his mother held up, staring at it for a second before slowly reaching over to grab my hand. As he slipped the ring down my finger I felt my heart ache, my whole body wanting to turn and run but over the years I had trained my mind to be in charge and once again I pushed my feelings back down. I reached for the ring and quickly slipped it on the princes finger. Hand in hand we turned and faced the crowd for the first time.
I let my eyes drift form face to face, some shone with happiness, some dark with jealousy and some trying hard to mask their angry and pain. Those were the faces of my people, we hadn't seen true happiness since our elders my parents had passed away and the dark had claimed a right on us in exchange for their protection. I gave them a small smile and felt their pain grow as they saw right through my fake attempt to reassurance them their princess was okay. My peoples safety was the only reason i agreed to this marriage, I knew i would never be able to protect them on my own. We were the only mixed clan out there. My father came from fire and my mother from nature and I the only mixed child to ever survive. Most of the other clans looked down at us thinking we were corrupted for not following their ways and had always been out to destroy us. Within days of my parents passing they saw their chance to wipe out this new race. I never knew why the dark clan had helped us, they only did what benefited them but now we owed them our lives.
I snapped my gaze away from my people and back into the crowds beneath me. People young and old had come to watch the ceremony and it wasn't long before all the faces started to blur into one. That's when something caught my attention. A figure standing in the crowd, his face hidden behind a hood all but his blue eyes that stared straight into my soul. Those eyes undid me and I felt my legs weaken beneath me as a wave of different emotions flowed over me. I quickly bowed to a confused prince and the dark elders before making my way of the stage. My pace quickening with every step and it wasn't long before I found myself running deep into the mystic forest.
