The Girl Who Didn't Belong
The black car stopped in front of Haneul Private Academy.
Students wearing expensive uniforms stepped out of luxury cars one after another. Laughter filled the air as they greeted each other.
Standing outside the school gate, Han Seo-yeon tightened her grip on the straps of her old backpack.
This place felt like another world.
The school buildings stood proudly beneath the bright morning sky. Cherry blossom trees lined the pathways, their soft pink petals occasionally drifting through the air.
Everything looked perfect.
Too perfect.
For a moment, she wondered if she had come to the wrong place.
A vibration from her phone interrupted her thoughts.
Mom
Seo-yeon's expression softened.
"Hello, Mom."
"Did you arrive safely?" her mother asked.
"Yes."
"Are you nervous?"
Seo-yeon glanced at the students around her.
A girl stepped out of a luxury car, laughing as a chauffeur carried her bags.
Another student was showing off an expensive watch to his friends.
"...A little."
Her mother laughed softly.
"Don't worry too much. Just study hard."
Seo-yeon forced a small smile.
"I will."
"You worked hard to get this scholarship. Don't let anyone make you feel small."
Her eyes softened.
"Okay."
"And remember..."
"Yes?"
"You deserve to be there."
For some reason, those words made her chest tighten.
"Thank you, Mom."
After ending the call, Seo-yeon took a deep breath.
Right.
She had studied day and night for this opportunity.
She had earned her place here.
No matter what anyone thought.
Slowly, she walked through the school gates.
Almost immediately, she could feel the stares.
"Who is she?"
"I heard she's the new scholarship student."
"Seriously? They let people like that in?"
"She doesn't look rich."
Whispers followed her through the hallway.
Seo-yeon lowered her eyes and continued walking.
She was used to people talking.
People had always whispered.
About her clothes.
About her family.
About the fact that she had to work harder than everyone else.
This was nothing new.
As she searched for her classroom, someone suddenly bumped into her shoulder.
Her books fell to the floor.
Papers scattered across the hallway.
A few students laughed softly.
"Oh."
A girl with perfectly styled hair looked down at her.
"I'm sorry," she said, though there was no apology in her voice.
The students around them laughed again.
Seo-yeon quietly knelt to pick up her books.
"You should watch where you're going," the girl added.
Seo-yeon said nothing.
She simply gathered her papers.
The girl frowned slightly.
Most people would have apologized.
Most people would have looked embarrassed.
Some people might have even cried.
But this girl...
She looked strangely calm.
Seo-yeon slowly stood up.
Their eyes met.
For a brief moment, neither of them spoke.
Then—
The hallway suddenly became quiet.
Completely quiet.
Even the laughter disappeared.
Confused, Seo-yeon looked around.
Everyone had stepped aside.
A tall boy walked through the crowd.
His expression was cold, almost unreadable.
Kang Min-jun.
The most popular student in school.
The heir to one of Korea's biggest companies.
The boy everyone admired...
and feared.
Girls secretly stared at him.
Some students lowered their heads as he passed.
Others simply watched him in silence.
Yet Min-jun paid no attention to any of them.
He walked past everyone without looking at them.
Then—
He stopped.
For the briefest second, his eyes met Seo-yeon's.
A strange feeling flashed through him.
As if he had seen those eyes somewhere before.
Calm.
Quiet.
Unfamiliar...
yet strangely familiar.
But he looked away immediately.
Impossible.
He had never met her before.
Without a word, he continued walking.
The hallway slowly came back to life.
Whispers immediately spread.
"Did Kang Min-jun just look at her?"
"No way."
"Since when does he notice people?"
Seo-yeon exhaled softly.
She looked at the boy's retreating figure.
Strange.
Everyone seemed afraid of him.
Yet he looked...
lonely.
The thought surprised even her.
Shaking her head, she adjusted her grip on her books.
It didn't matter.
Whoever Kang Min-jun was had nothing to do with her.
She only had one goal.
To survive this school.
Little did she know—
that one look...
would change her entire life.
