Kate's Perspective (POV)
I was well aware that my brother, Dunn, had always coveted the position of heir to the Laurence family. Because our grandfather favored me, Dunn feared that the inheritance would eventually fall into my hands, so he had been scheming to eliminate me, ensuring that Dunn could monopolize the family's wealth.
What Dunn didn’t know, however, was that I had never intended to compete for the inheritance. But Dunn, disregarding their brotherly bond, had even tried to kill me.
I still remembered how, as a child, whenever I sneaked out to play, it was always Dunn who covered for him. Every time our grandfather scolded him, it was Dunn who spoke up in my defense.
I couldn’t believe that the brother who had once cared for me so deeply had turned into such a cold-blooded monster.
So, after the car accident, I decided to pretend he could no longer walk. Doctors had examined me but found nothing wrong. Some said it was a psychological trauma-induced aftereffect, which perfectly aligned with my plan. By pretending to be paralyzed and on the brink of death, he hoped Dunn would stop targeting me.
However, I hadn’t expected that after the accident, my girlfriend, Leah, would end up with Dunn. I had witnessed them in bed together, and Dunn had even deliberately sent me the video. I hated betrayal more than anything, and i couldn’t accept the fact that the two people who meant the most to me had betrayed me so thoroughly.
Thus, I decided to seek revenge. I would make them pay.
What I hadn’t anticipated was that my grandfather would arrange a wife for me.
I hadn’t wanted to marry, at least not yet. But the thought of using this marriage to hurt Leah made me agree to it.
Last night, I had sneaked out to drown my sorrows, only to accidentally drink a spiked glass of wine.
At the bar, I had seen Alice—the woman who, like me, had come to drink away her troubles.
Among the entire crowd, she was the only one who caught my eyes.
So, I took her with me. Her scent had intoxicated me, and I had torn off her clothes, pinning her beneath me . She had cried, but I couldn’t stop. I told himself I would make it up to her.
Later, she stopped resisting and even began to respond to me. Our breaths intertwined, our sweat mingled, and our bodies pressed tightly together.
I had never felt such exhilaration before. Yet, when I woke up, she was gone. Women lined up from here to France just to share my bed, but she had left without taking a single penny.
Worse, she had left me a note, calling it his "tip"—and to add insult to injury, it was only one dollar!
I was furious. I swore that the next time he saw her, I would pin her down and demand, "Is Kate Laurence only worth one dollar?"
I hadn’t expected that day to come so soon. She was the wife his grandfather had arranged for me.
Seeing her hide her face, too embarrassed to look at me, I was reminded of how she had closed her eyes beneath me the night before.
But at the same time, I couldn’t shake the suspicion that all these coincidences were far too deliberate.
I suspected that Alice might have been sent by Dunn to kill me. If she really was Dunn’s pawn, I would not let her off easily.

Alice's Perspective (POV)
I had agreed to Bernard’s request to take care of Kate, but I never imagined that my husband would turn out to be the man who had taken her virginity the night before.
To be honest, he was handsome, and his skills in bed were impressive.
But I felt incredibly awkward.
Kate would surely think I was a loose woman.
To make matters worse, I had left him that one-dollar note, which was undoubtedly a provocation. He must despise me now.
Yet, I was also angry. After the frenzy of the night had subsided, I was filled with regret.
I shouldn’t have given away my first time so casually to a stranger.
I felt I had betrayed her future husband. But now, I no longer needed to feel guilty, because my chastity had ultimately been with my husband.
What puzzled me the most was why Kate was in a wheelchair. They said he was on the verge of death, and judging by his pale complexion, he certainly looked like a seriously ill man.
But I clearly remembered how strong and vigorous he had been the night before. He didn’t seem like someone who was dying at all.
I couldn’t help but wonder what secrets Kate was hiding. Why was he pretending to be paralyzed? Why was he pretending to be on the brink of death?
These questions swirled in my mind, filling me with unease and curiosity about this marriage.
