Chapter 8

1912 Words
For a second or two Sophia felt her body get squeezed together all over like she was trying to fit through a small tube, it was getting tighter and tighter and just when it started to get painful the pages dropped to the ground and she found herself back in time once again. A smile came to her face as she realized that she did it, that the first time wasn't a dream, this was all very real. She brushed herself off and walked out of the library, edger to find Elizabeth. Once in the hall, she saw that the once empty dark stone hallway was filled with chairs and a couple of tables with workers tending to them making sure everything was perfect for the evening. "Amazing." Sophia murmured under her breath as she walked through the hall taking in everything. "It's magical, isn't." Someone said behind her. Sophia turned on her heels in an instant finding her face to face to Elizabeth, dressed in the most beautiful silk Victorian royal blue dress. "It is." She said looking at Elizabeth from head to toe taking in her beauty. Sophia thought she was beautiful with her dress but Elizabeth toped that with her blonde curly hair cascading down her back with blue and white flowers to pin back some of her hair. "I thought you wouldn't come." Elizabeth said as a smile formed on her beautifully powdered face. After a week went by without a single word from Sophia. She honestly didn't think that she would ever see Sophia again, worried that she scared her off already. "I thought I wasn't going to come either." Sophia mumbled mainly to herself and then said, "I couldn't resist a good party" then smiled at her. "Excellent, but let us get you ready." She said and grabbed Sophia's hand to lead her. Elizabeth was sure that if she was going to this party, she could not be dressed like how she was. She needed to have a nicer appearance because this ball was only for the upper elite of the neighboring towns. Sophia looked at herself. She thought she was ready. She thought that she looked good as is. "I am ready," Sophia said. To her, the dress was beautiful and she thought she looked amazing, even more, amazing then she did for homecoming. But she guessed that this outfit wasn't going to cut it for a ballroom dance. Elizabeth gave a small giggle. She knew that Sophia was from the future but she did say the funniest things. "You need a more presentable dress than that, come we only have 3 hours till people come." She said and linked her arm with Sophia's and led her up the stairs into Elizabeth's room. "Whilst my sister is out of town we can raid her room." Sophia smiled at her, excited about what she was going to wear next. "Very well." She as the two of them walked up the stairs. as the two walked, Sophia paused in thought. This was only the second time she had come here but she never had met her sister. She was always gone and that seemed kind of odd to Sophia. "Elizabeth, where is your sister?" Sophia asked. "Oh she's just out, she'll be back soon." She said absentmindedly while going into her sister's oversized bedroom which in Sophia's time was her father's office. A smiled came to Sophia as she looked around the room. It was the same room that she knew of, but yet it was so different from what she was used to seeing. She enjoyed to look at the details around her in this time and compare it to what the castle looked like at her time. As Elizabeth dug through her sister's wardrobe, Sophia sat on her bed taking in everything that was different about this time. It was a lot colder in this castle and not as bright because the lightbulbs seemed not to emit less light than in her time. Her dad's office was more welcoming then it was here, more bright and warm too. She shuddered, suddenly feeling like she wasn't welcome here in this room at all. She rubbed her hands against the dusty sheets on the bed and frowned noticing that the room looked like it wasn't used very often if not at all. Sophia looked more carefully around the room and noticed that there was a light lire of dust on almost everything in this room. "Elizabeth, where is your sister?" Sophia asked again as she looked around the untouched room. Elizabeth stopped in mid-hunt and turned her back to Sophia. She was quiet for a good minute. She knew that she couldn't keep this secret from her any longer. Elizabeth didn't think that Sophia would realize that this room was not used for so long. She didn't know what to say back to her. She didn't know if she should tell the full truth or just a lie like her parents always wanted her to tell. She was sure if Sophia knew what happened to her sister, she would run away and not come back. "She's, she's..." Elizabeth stuttered with tears starting to run down her face, washing away her powdered makeup. "She got taken." Sophia felt her blood run cold. Even though she didn't know her, she automatically felt connected to her somehow. She needed to know who took her and how to get her back. "What? By who?" She said suddenly overwhelmed by anger and hate for whoever took this girl's sister. Elizabeth whipped her tears from her face as she tried to regain herself. "He lives on the cost about an hour away from here. He is an evil man. Some say he's a warlock." "Why did he take her?" Sophia asked kindly fighting back the anger she just felt. She wanted to know more about what happened to Elizabeth's sister. For some reason, she had this overwhelming urge to help her, it was deep in her soul. "Because we wouldn't give him what he wanted." Sophia was amazed and someone would do something like that just because he didn't get what he wanted. Where was the government in this? Shouldn't they be doing something about this? Sophia thought in her mind. "What was that?" Elizabeth chewed on her lip questioning if telling her the truth was really the smartest idea. Sophia's grandma couldn't do anything to help them, how could Sophia do anything more? "I don't know, my mother and father don't tell me anything." she lied and looked at the stone ground with disappointment in her eyes. "It's ok." Sophia said and hugged trying to make her feel better although she felt unsure what to really do to make this better. "OK? What's that?" Sophia smiled as she remembered that she was not in her time; they did not know her language that she knew. She had to be careful in what slang to use if she wanted Elizabeth to understand her. "It means everything is going to be fine." "But she's been gone for a couple months now and I believe that I will not get her back. I miss her so much and with her gone, it feels like a part of me is gone too." "I sort of know how that feels." Sophia said remembering the first week in England and how she was ripped away from her friends back in her real home in the states. Even now, it feels like a part of her heart was gone. "Miss, are you getting ready?" a man said coming into the room that the girls were in. Sophia looked up to see that the man in front of them was none other than Abraham from her time. He looked the same as he normally did in her time but at the same time, he was different, he seemed more pressent and aware here. Sophia gasped aloud looking Abraham with amazement. She wanted to know if more people besides her could travel. Maybe her whole family could time travel. She wanted to know why was he here. Unless this was his true time, or maybe he lived two lives. Her mind was spinning with ideas about how he got here and was he from her time or this time. "We're getting ready. Thank you Abraham." Elizabeth said kindly to him. He nodded at her calmly. "I just wanted you to know that people will start coming in about an hour." He said and started to turn to walk about of the room as if not even paying attention to Sophia like she wasn't even there. Although what Sophia didn't know was that he did see her. He did know she was in this room. He wasn't expecting to see her here in this time so soon and it made him frown. "Oh my! That soon?!" Elizabeth said, completely forgetting about the last conversation the two shared and got up from the stone cold floor to find a dress for Sophia. Stuck in her own thoughts, Sophia could only think about Abraham. "Wait." Sophia managed to choke out to him just before he left the room. His hand gripped the gold door handle and dropped his hand to his side. "Yes?" he asked and turned to face her. He took his time to finally look her in the eyes as he did when she saw him in her time. His expression remind blank, as if waiting for her to make the next move. "You're here too? How?" Sophia said staring at him from head to toe. What happened next was what hurt him the most, "I do not know what you are talking about miss. I am very sorry but I must be going." He said and walked about of the room without another word spoken. He knew he couldn't give her an answer of why he was in two times. She wasn't ready for that and honestly, he wasn't ready for that answer yet either. Elizabeth just stood in the sidelines, terribly confused in what just happened. "You know him?" Elizabeth asked looking at Sophia carefully making sure she was fine. Sophia frowned at the wall, convinced that she was really going crazy. "I thought I did." Sophia said as she tried to piece the clues together in her mind. She had no idea why he acted like that but she was almost sure that it was Abraham from her time that she just saw. She was questioning though if it was really him here or if she just imagined it. If it was him for real, why did he not want to admit that he knew her? Sophia had a feeling that there was a good reason for that. "He looked like someone I knew. " "Oh very well. I found the perfect dress for you." She said happily and held out a light purple satin dress that had short lace sleeves and a sweetheart cut at the top. "It's perfect." Sophia said with amazement and took the dress from Elizabeth to get a closer look at it. She couldn't believe that she going to wear this dress let alone holding it right now. She felt like she was in a play. She tried to wrap her mind around that this was real life and this was really happening. "Well don't just stand there. Try it on." Elizabeth said eagerly.
