"So wait, Libby is a Baygonen." Sophia repeated back to Lewis as she looked at him. For the past hour he had told her about the families. All of the things he told her, she had never heard before. He was like a fountain of knowledge, like Abraham.
"Yes, her whole family is. You couldn't tell?" Lewis asked.
"No." Sophia said in thought. She couldn't believe that Libby could be in this mess of family ties as well. Sophia was a bit hurt that Libby hadn't told her. She thought her and Libby were close.
"Well, I don't trust her. I don't trust any Baygonen."Lewis explained as he thought about all his family members that have been hurt from Baygonens.
"I trust her, she's my friend." Even though Libby didn't tell her about her family, Sophia still trusted her because she got a good vibe from Libby.
"Don't, she's related to Lord Nelson." Lewis told her, trying to convince her to abandon her new friend. He was trying all he could to protect her and in his mind, this was the best way to do it.
Sophia raised her eyebrows at him. She was surprised that he knew about Lord Nelson. Did everyone know about him besides her? She was getting frustrated with him, he was judging Libby for something that her ancestor did over a hundred years ago. To Sophia, that didn't mean that she was a bad person. "Just because she related to him doesn't mean she's a bad person." She said and folded her arms across her chest.
"Bagonens have always been bad, all the way to the dawn on Vestlers. Their power corrupts them and they are to blame for a lot of down falls in Vestler History." Lewis explained. He had heard too many stories about the terrible things that Bagonens have done in the past. He wanted Sophia to know about this as well.
Sophia was silent for a moment, chewing on his words like a tough stake. "How do you know Lord Nelson?" Sophia finally asked.
"I have read about him. He was evil to everyone, humans and Vestlers alike. Did you know he killed his own brother for his son?"
"Yes, I did know that." Sophia said, thinking about Elijah.
Lewis knew that he needed more time to talk to her, and he was afraid that he would miss something. If he grabbed his notes and books that would help the both of them. "Here, let me get my books and I can show you more." Lewis said and got up from the couch and ran down the hall then upstairs in his room to get their old family history books. He felt a strong desire to protect Sophia. If she knew everything that he knew it would keep her safer. In a matter of minutes Lewis came back down with about 5 books stacked on top of one another.
"These are all your family's?" Sophia asked in shock. She was amazed that there were so many books about his family. She had heard of journaling but this was an extreme. It made her wonder if she had any of these kinds of books laying around her gran's castle.
"We have a couple more up stairs too." Lewis said and laid the books out on the coffee table. "Your family should have some as well. Every vestler family has at least one family history book."
Sophia pick up one of the old leather bound books from the table and opened it up to a random page and started to read the writing on the page.
"How about we start with this one." Lewis said and took the book that she had in her hands and replaced it with another leather bound book.
"What's this?" Sophia asked as she flipped through the musty pages.
"A history lesson." Lewis said. "So you know my family and I are Famlotease's."
"Yes but I'm not sure what you do." Sophia told him. She liked that he was telling her all this useful information but in the back of her mind she remembered the dream she had. the words 'never trust a Famlotease' ran over in her mind. She looked at Lewis as he smiled brightly, she felt like she could trust him. He had done nothing to break her trust, after all he just saved her life.
"We keep nature in order. We're healers and also keep track of time travel which we haven't done in a long time because of that lock on the book. We feel when something is out of place and it's our job to try to put it back in order." He explained as he flipped the pages of the book Sophia was holding to the first page.
"You do more than I thought. Abraham didn't tell me about this." Sophia said while reading the first page, which was the long version of what Lewis just told her.
"Abraham? Who is he?" Lewis asked her. He racked his mind, it sounded familiar, maybe he read about that name before but he couldn't remember where. Seeing that he couldn't get an answer, he shrugged it off to the side
"He's from 1894. He's told me quite a bit about Vestlers. I trust him with my life." Sophia explained to Lewis. She liked telling Lewis about all these things, it felt like a weight had been lifted from her chest. She needed this, someone from her time to talk to.
"Ok." Lewis nodded. That still didn't explain why he had heard the name before. "Well I'll just go over all the Vestler information just in case he missed something. First is Watchentager's." He said as he flipped a couple pages of the book Sophia was holding. "They are something different. Most of the time throughout history they have been good and they trust their gut. They often don't pick a team. If they believe they're doing the right thing then they will not change. They can travel different places in a blink of an eye and they can travel wherever a guarder is. They also can put temporary locks on time traveling."
Sophia frowned. What Lewis was saying was not lining up with what Abraham told her. "Abraham said Bagonen people could put locked on the travel."
Lewis frowned back at her. As far as he knew, that was not possible. Each line had a different job. But maybe he was wrong, after all he didn't know everything. "Maybe Bagonens can do that too. What is Abraham's last name?" He asked, maybe this Abraham was not to be trusted like Sophia believed.
"I'm not sure, I'm sorry."
He nodded. "It's ok, Bagonens on next. They're tricky. We don't have a lot of stuff on them because they burnt a lot of their history books. That shows how much we trust them." Lewis frowned then continued saying, "they can move stuff with just a flick of they're hand. And that's all we have on them. However you might have more at home. I would recommend when you go home to look through your library and see if you have any old family books. The Bagonens are the closest relative to Guarders so you might have more information than we do."
Sophia nodded, knowing what she needed to do next. "Hey, Lewis. I owe you an apology. I see now that you were always helping me from day one. I'm sorry I kept pushing you away." Sophia said with an apologetic look. She didn't believe the Lewis would be so helpful and kind . She suddenly felt bad about how she treated him recently.
"Hey, it's no big deal. I have experienced worse things in life." He said and smiled. He understood and forgave her. She had no idea about this world and no wonder she was so temperamental recently, she had a lot on her plate. "So next but not least are Guarders. Do you know anything about your family?" He asked her, trying to get more information on Guarders. His family books had hardly any information on them and he wanted more. He wanted to know more about Guarders.
"I wish but I can't tell you anything. I never lived here in England. My mum got married to a foreigner and moved to a small farm town in the Untied States with my father. As much as I talked to my grandmother, she never told me about this stuff or our family's past, which makes me mad and disappointed. Why would she leave me here alone and confused without any clues or help?" Sophia vented to Lewis as she got teary eyed. It felt nice to let out some of her thoughts to someone that understood her. For the past hour or so that she had spent with Lewis, she already felt closer to him. He felt like a true and honest friend, someone that would stay with her until the end.
"I can't imagine, I'm really sorry that you've had to do this almost all on your own. However, from now on I'll be here for you. If you ever need help, with anything, just call. I'll be there." He said kindly looking straight into Sophia's eyes. He meant every word of it.
Stefan, walking in on the conversation, saw it a good it for a break. Sophia was starting to get overwhelmed and she needed a break. "Are you kid's hungry?" Stefan asked, coming into the family room making Sophia and Lewis look away from each other embarrassment.
They then both looked up at each other again and smiled as if they could read each other's mind, both were starving. "Yes." They said at once.
"Ok come on into the kitchen, Margret made this wonderful chef's salad." Stefan said then turned around to walk back into the kitchen.
Once they got into the kitchen, Margret made plates of salad and had put them on the table. On that table there was also a pot of green chunky liquid.
"We're also going to fix up that arm of yours. We don't want your parents to see that do we now?" Margret said as she pointed to Sophia's arm with a kind smile.
"That would be great." Sophia said as she sat down at the table. She had forgotten about her injured arm until now. She rested her injured arm on the table. "Now what?"
"We're going to spread this paste on and it should make the healing process faster." She said and sat down on the right hand said of Sophia, got out a knife and brought the pot of green stuff closer to her. "Relax. This is just for taking off the gauze faster. I'm not a very patient." She said and smiled at Sophia, seeing the fear in her eyes.
"I'm right here for you." Lewis said and sat right beside her on her left hand side.
In one fluid motion Margret cut the gauze and took it off, revealing the deep cuts down her arm.
"I look like a cutter." Sophia said bluntly and forced a smile to fake that this didn't bother her. Seeing her arm scared her to think that just to stop the spell, they had to do this to her. Sophia was starting to get that magic was nothing to mess with.
"That's what we're going to fix." Margret said and got a spoon full of the green liquid that reminded Sophia of the fart putty that her mum use to get for them when they were younger. "I have to warn you, this will sting."
Sophia nodded, bracing herself as Margret started to spread on the green mixture over her arm. At first, it didn't bother her, it was just cold and sticky but after a second the stinging came. Sophia took a deep breath in and made a face at the table.
"I'm sorry sweet heart, I'm almost done." Margret said calmly as she continued to spread the liquid on Sophia's arm.
"No it's ok, I'm fine." Sophia said through her teeth as the stinging turned into burning. She didn't like to look weak in front of Lewis' family. After all, she grow up beating up her brothers and them beating up on her, she was tough, she could handle this.
After about 30 seconds more Margret said, "I'm done." She got up from her seat, went to the sink, and washed her hands. "Just let it for about 10 minutes and you can wash it off."
"Ok." Sophia said with clenched fists.
"Are you ok?" Lewis asked with worried tone to his voice. He didn't like to see her in pain like this, he wanted to help in some way but he knew there wasn't much for him to do. he grabbed her free hand and squeezed it for support.
"Yeah, just fine, thanks for asking." Sophia said with sarcasm thick in her voice.
"I'm sorry." After a few minutes Lewis felt her grip on his hand loosen. "So how is your arm?"
"It's fine now." Sophia said looking at the dry and pealing green mixture on her arm. With her free hand, she let go of Lewis' and started to eat the salad in front of her.
After a few more minutes Margret's phone went off, signaling that it was time for the next step. "Time to wash it off." Margret said as she put a basin of water and a washcloth next to Sophia. "It won't sting anymore." She said with a smile seeing the worried look on Sophia's face.
After all the mixture was off her arm, Sophia looked at it closely. "It's like nothing happened." Sophia said in shock running her fingers over her forearm. The cuts on her arm had been completely healed to its former glory. There wasn't even any scaring to be seen. "That's amazing." Sophia said and looked up at Margret, "thank you."
"No problem. Well it's almost 8:30 and if I remember right, you kids have school tomorrow." Margret said in a motherly tone.
Sophia nodded, she had completely forgotten about the time. "Oh, yes. Thank you so much." Sophia said and got up from her seat.
"You're welcome. Come back anytime. Don't you forget that." Stefan said and smiled.
"See you at school Sophia." Lewis said and smiled.
"Thanks for teaching me those things Lewis." She said and hugged him tightly then got her shoes on and left for the night.
