Chapter 14

Phoenix POV

We get in the car to head over to her place, which is about a 40 minute drive from mine. The atmosphere turned really stuffy and cold after my phone call with Alison, however Emily didn’t bring the discussion up again. I can’t feel any emotion, almost as if she blocked me out of the mating bond. That isn’t possible, she couldn’t have learned how to control it yet. She is progressing fast, I can feel her wolf.

The whole ride was pure silence, every time I tried to lighten the mood, she would reply with a one worded answer. Pulling up to her house, it looks warm and cozy, shining in the afternoon light, I feel her open up again and her mood switches into what feels like happiness seeing her home.

Unknown POV

Ring “Hello, Mr. Sampson. So lovely to speak to you this afternoon. I heard through the grapevine about your.. Side business. I would love to help you out any way possible. In fact, I know of someone you may find of interest. She would be perfect for your business.”

Emilys POV

I step into my house and breath in the familiar scent of home. Emily, don’t be mad at our mate. He IS home, even if he as a past. I know that Amber, but I know he wasn’t being honest. If he were I may have handled it better. Hey... Amber.. Do you think, you and I can work on shifting together? I need to understand and experience more. I am strong enough and ready to stretch my legs when you are!

“I am going to go get out of this dress and put on some comfortable clothes if you want to sit and relax before Sadie gets here” I say to Phoenix before heading upstairs and not looking back. I get to my room, looking around at all the things I would like to throw out and replace. Doesn’t matter who I am mated to, this is MY home, which reminds me.. I need to update Him...

Emily: Just a reminder, you have less than a week to send someone to the house to pick up all of your belongings. Most of what is here, My parents purchased.

Lincoln: Emily.... please. I have been trying to give you space to breath, but please don’t leave me. I made a huge mistake!!

Emily: You have no idea what a huge mistake it was. I cried for months, feeling alone, while you were “out with the guys” leaving me by myself. I promise you, I will never shed another tear. Make sure you have someone come get your s**t by the end of the week, or I will have a bon fire.

My body is on fire, I feel rage as the heat takes over, Phoenix barges in. “What the hell is going on Emily? I felt your anger from downstairs. Are you okay? Calm down my love.” He pulls me into his embrace and it feels as though a cold shower poured down from above. A calm feeling washes over my anger for a brief moment and then sadness overcomes me.

“I’m sorry... I don’t know what happened. I was texting Nicholas to get his things by the end of this week and then I felt heat all around me.. I’m.. so... I’m so sorry”

Phoenix POV

I hold her as she starts to cry. I have never seen her cry.. she can’t catch her breath.. s**t, Jet what the hell do I do. Console her, It is time to tell her what she is becoming! Her eyes change from a blazing bright gold, back to her beautiful forest green as the tears continue to pour.

“Shh....Emily, please breath. I’m here, I have you” I pull her close but it still doesn’t calm her down like it typically does. “Emily listen to me.. you remember what I told you about, that I needed to tell you about the Lycan mating bond... if you accept the bond with me, you will transform into a Lycan, this could be part of the transformation, all of the heightened emotions, you need to try to control it.”

She backs away from my embrace, “What?? You think that is a way for me to control this? You think telling me what to do is the way to help me?” Her eyes turn the brightest gold that I have seen, thus far. Sadness has turned back into anger “I will Never be controlled again, I will Never be walked on again, I will Not allow Anyone to hurt me again!” She yells until her anger has consumed her as a whole, and she falls, out of breath as I catch her.

She lays there still in my arms, as I refused to let her go, with the look of being lifeless. “Emily.... Emily. Wake up” I shake her and put my head to her chest. There’s a heart beat.

Our Mate is strong Phoenix. She will make a perfect Queen. I can feel her wolf gaining so much strength, she is trying to reach me. Jet proclaims. I think so too Jet. I just hope her body can handle the sudden power she is consuming. I have never seen a she-wolf or a female Lycan with so much fury.

I lay her down on her bed in hopes that she will recover, Looking over at the clock that reads 4:30. We have 1.5 hours until Sadie gets here. Please Emily, wake up!

Sitting by the edge of the bed with her hand in mine and my forehead leaning against the bed for about 30 minutes. Her heartrate seems to have regulated within the hour. She starts to regain consciousness, so I step back to take a look at her as her eyes open.

“Phoenix?” her eyes slightly open and close, trying to focus on me. “Yes, Little Dove... It’s me.. How do you feel?” I ask concerned and hopeful for answers. “I’m fine, my body feels a bit tired, but I feel fine.. but what happened to me? All I remember is heat.” “...I .. I think Amber took over, but I’m not quite sure yet my love. The most important part right now, is that you are okay, I was so worried.” I sit down and lift her into a warm embrace. I was so scared I would lose her to the power consuming her. I can never lose her. She is everything to me from here on out.

We lay in bed for a little under an hour in silence. She doesn’t ask anything just nuzzles into my chest, until she looks at the time. ” Oh shoot! Sadie will be here any minute. We need to get up!!” She darts out of bed and heads to the bathroom to freshen up, and I do the same.

Walking downstairs we turn the T.V on and start the coffee. Seems as though humans love coffee at any time of the day. There’s a knock at the door.

Emilys POV

“Sadieeeeee” I screech when I see my best friend in the world standing at the door. “Emm, OMG you have no freakin clue how much I missed you, I have to tell you about...” she stops when she sees Phoenix standing behind me. “Don’t move.. there’s a giant sexy scary man standing right behind you” She whispers, and I laugh and roll my eyes.

Grabbing her hand and pulling her in the house, I close the door behind her. "Sadie this is Phoenix.. you didn't really get a good introduction at Vision the other night". She tilts her chin all the way up to meet his eyes and gives him a questionable glare while stretching out her hand. Phoenix takes her hand and shakes it. "Nice to meet you.. Phoenix. I have heard Nothing about you." She gives him an unapproving look. "It is a pleasure to meet you Sadie, I have heard many wonderful things about you over the past few days."

"Why don't the two of you get settled in the living room and I'll grab us some coffee hmm?" They both nod their heads and walk into the living room and settle down on the couch while I stroll to the kitchen to fetch us a few cups of coffee. "No coffee for me, my love, thank you though" I hear Phoenix yell from the living room. Sadie's neck snaps in his direction. "Love?? Did you just call My Emily love?? Don't tell me you love her already after a few days. I know guys like you! Going after a vulnerable girl who Just broke up with long time fiancé". She's fuming, now standing while pointing her finger at him, while I walk in.

"Sadie.... calm down. I know this is all happening so fast, and I have so much to catch you up on, but please don't get angry at Phoenix. Hear him out first" I give her a sweet smile and hand her a cup of coffee and she sits back down. I walk over to Phoenix and sit next to him, but with a little space between us. "I'm sorry Em.. I just don't trust anyone with you. You know that. I knew Nicholas was bad news, and now this dude comes out of nowhere and you disappeared the past few days. It's hard to remain calm."

"I do love her Sadie. It is hard to explain...to you, at this moment, but I am drawn to her. I would never hurt her." His face is soft, and inviting with a small beautiful smile etched across his face, which instantly comes the stir inside Sadie. "Okay... well if this" She points between Phoenix and I, "is a thing now, I need to get to know you more and understand that you have the right intentions for My Emily." Oh my sweet best friend. I love her so much. She is like a protective sister to me.

"Of course Sadie, if you have any questions ask way, please!" Phoenix insists.
