Chapter 3

Emilys POV Fiona walks in humming, looking pleasantly happy after her lunch with her husband. I, however, still in shock by my last mysterious customer. Who is he? I don't think I have seen him before in here. No, I would recognize him for sure! Brushing it off I pulled off my apron and reached for my bag in the cubby and gave Fiona a hug. "I hope you had a wonderful lunch!! I am off to the library for my shift. Have a great rest of your day, and call me if you need me back!" I say to Fiona. "Oh stop it" she says, "You have enough on your plate and I will be fine here for the rest of the day, silly girl" with a big squeeze on my shoulder, she leans down and kisses me on the top of my head, like a motherly love tap. That reminds me, I need to call Mom! I give her a big loving smiling and wave goodbye as I head out the door to the bus stop. The bus stop is only a short 5 minute walk, but as I head out I can't help but feel eyes on me. Turning around I see people walking and talking but not one person looking this way. I'm clearly losing my mind. 15 minutes later, the bus stops and I get out in front of the town Library, when my phone beeps. Ughhh that damn beep. It's Nicholas!! Nicholas: Hey babe! The guys and I are going out for a few drinks after work. So I'll be home a little later tonight. Emily: Oh, okay. No problem. Nicholas: Love you! ❤️ Emily: Love you too Of course... he's going to be late again. Not a surprise, but I cant stop the massive pang in my chest. The hurt I feel, I just want to hang out with him like we used to. Brushing off the negative feelings and thoughts I walk into the Library to greet Mr. Landing. A kind old man in his 60s dressed in casual jeans, white sneakers and a collared blue checkered sweater. He has a grey comb over which makes him look so adorable. "Good afternoon Mr. Landing!" I say greeting him. He smiles back and warmly. "Hello my dear! I have a pile of books on the cart over there, ready for you. And when you are done there are books behind the desk that need to be checked in and put away. Thank you. Emily!" He smiles a warm grandfather type of smile and gives me a tap on my shoulder as he walks by. I drop my bag under the front counter and get to work! I love it here, there's nothing like being surrounded by books filled with knowledge, stories of love, action, thrill, it's all I truly need in life. Going through all of the books one by one, putting them back in their rightful spot on the shelf, when one drops. I lean down to pick it up, as I get back up I look in front of me to see someone walk by the aisle in an oddly familiar blue suit. Phoenix POV After walking out of the coffee shop, I decide to sit down on one of the side walk benches not wanting to go back to the office just yet. Sipping my coffee, I look up and see Little Dove leave the shop, looks like she is headed to the bus stop down the street. As the bus pulls up, I can see the lit up screen on the back of the bus that reads Town Library. My curiosity got the best of me, I went back to my building and walked into the parking garage to my Maybach Mercedes, get in and drove off. What the hell am I doing. She has me driving to the library, when I shouldn't give a damn. 15 minutes later, I arrive at the library, where I assume she is already in there checking out a book. Walking in I spot her with a cart, full of returned books. So she works here hmm... I do love to get lost in a good thriller. Taking in the relaxing atmosphere, much different than my usual daily atmosphere, looking for the action and thriller section I spot her drop a book. My first instinct is to go and pick it up for her, but I fight the urge and concentrate ahead of me so I don't look too much like a creep. Emilys POV That couldn't have possibly been that same cold, handsome jerk from the coffee shop earlier... could it? Pushing that thought to the side I continued my work. Only another couple hours until it was time to leave and meet Sadie. Ugh I can't wait!! It feels like it's been forever since we last got together in person. The rest of the day dragged on a little slower than usual. It was a pretty slow day for a Monday afternoon, and I didn't end up seeing Mr. blue suit guy again. Grabbing my bag behind the librarian counter, I said goodnight to Mr. Landing and set off to the bus stop. 20 minutes later, we pull up to the closest bus stop to my house, about a 5 minute walk to get home. I walk off the bus and speed walk home as the sun starts to set. I need to start saving up for a car I push that into the back of my mind in my to-do list. We never felt the need to buy a second car, since everything is so close or I can just take the bus just about anywhere. Nicholas needs the car to get to work on time every morning. Walking up to my front door, I search my bag for my keys and unlock the door. I absolutely love my home. My parents don't have a lot, but they saved up everything they could to help us purchase this little bungalow home, before Nicholas received his promotion and raise. It's small but a perfect size for just Nicholas and I. He isn't really into interior decorating, so he left that up to me. I wanted a warm cottage feel. Paintings of flower fields that I've dreamed of running through, hang on the walls, with a small tan couch in front of a stacked stone fireplace. Its my favorite part of this cozy home. I have curled up next to the fire on multiple occasions with a book, and wine. Walking up to our master bedroom, I throw my bag on the bed and hop in the shower to clean up. Its 5:30PM which gives me at least 30 minutes, if Sadie isn't late again, to get myself ready before Sadie gets here. Getting out, I blow dry my hair and dig through the clothes in my closet for something.... anything to feel pretty in. It's not every day that I get to dress up. I find a dark green silk dress with spaghetti straps and a drooping neckline. Putting it on, it comes down right above my knees and hugs my body perfectly, making it look like I have some curves. Pairing the dress with a pair of strappy black heals, I head to the bathroom and apply my usual minimal make up, throw my hair up in a high pony tail and go to the stairs when I hear the doorbell. Perfect timing!! I thought to myself. Opening the door I hear a loud squeal. "Holy s**t girl, that dress is freakin killer!!! But we have some work to do with your make up and hair before we go" Sadie says as she grabs my arm and pulls me upstairs with her purse on her other arm. "What?? No! My make up is totally fine and there's not much I can do with my hair." I retort. She doesn't pay much of any attention to my whining, instead she drags me to the bathroom and points to the toilet seat and in a demanding tone says "Sit!! Let me work my magic" I roll my eyes and grunt, but listen to her and sit down on the cold toilet seat. 15 minutes of make up and the curling wand Sadie says "Done!" Standing up, I look into the mirror and I'm absolutely stunned. Woah she really is good. I feel beautiful and barely recognize myself, with cat eye liner, a bit of contour on my cheek bones, light blush and highlighter, and my long black hair with loose curls down my back. Sadie looks, per usual, like absolute perfection. She has on a royal blue dress that looks like a second skin, tightly hugging every single curve, and a plunging neckline. All eyes will most certainly be on her tonight! Walking out the door we hop in her red Mazda RX-8. It's such a beautiful car, it beats riding on the bus all the time. I need to save money for a car like this, I remind myself, pushing it into my mental to-do list. The whole drive to Vision, Sadie was non-stop talk about Brandon in their very....detailed past few days.. yuck. I'm surprised she decided to tear herself off of him for the night to hang with me. Ohh Vision...the place to be any night of the week, it's Always busy!! Vision is like a full menu lounge, restaurant, club whatever you want to call it, its like an all-in-one chill place to be. People come here to party, relax, eat, dance and all around have a good time. Right now, I'm just superrr hungry, I'm pretty sure people can hear my stomach growl over the loud music. We walk through crowds of people and past private corporate and party rooms to reach a table close to the bar, where the music isn't as loud and I can hear Sadie ramble more about her newest hook up. Our waiter, a cute perky brunette with short spikey hair and tattoos all over her arms walks over and takes our dinner orders. "Hey!!! I'm Jen. I'll be your waiter tonight. What can I start Y'all out with?" She says with a surprising southern accent. Could she get any cuter?! "I'll have the lobster bisque with mashed potatoes" I say already salivating from the thought of it. "Oh s**t! Me too! Make that two, sounds freakin amazing" Sadie says which makes laugh. "Oh and can we also get two gin and tonics, heavy on the gin, and keep 'em comin, we will be here for a while!!" She says to Jen, which Jen smiles, gives us a wink and walks off. "Sadie what the hell!! You know I'm a light weight. 2 of those will have me on my ass" I glare at her. She grins playfully and says "precisely why I told her to keep 'em comin! Come on Em you seriously need to loosen up. Ever since Nicholas got his promotion, he's never home and you never go out. It's time to have some fun again!" "Okay, 2.... I'll have 2 drinks, that's more than my typical count" I say back to her in a serious heavy tone, but she only rolls her eyes at me and laughs.
